Magic Maker – How to make magic in another world –
Chapter 169 Blue spring
Our research continued.
The fairy language was profound.
The more we investigated, the more questions arose one after another.
It was truly a quagmire.
If one got caught up in this quagmire, they might spend their entire life on it.
Linguist Carla, day by day, would exclaim with excitement, “Does it really have such a meaning!? Wow!” or “Ah, seriously, fairy language is the best, hey!!” The Count and I, understanding those sentiments, agreed. Lately, it seemed even Winona was getting caught up in that quagmire.
After all,
“Shion-sama! Isn’t this fairy language beautiful!?”
“It’s great! Absolutely! The meanings and characters are beautiful!”
“R-right!? Hehe.”
She would happily show the fairy characters she had written, and her enthusiasm was like that of a grandchild showing a cicada to its grandparent.
I sent Winona a warm gaze, thinking this must be what a grandfather’s feelings are like.
Amidst this ongoing research, two new discoveries were made.
First discovery:
When reading fairy characters, they reacted not only to oral magic using magical perception but also to oral magic without magical perception, such as the one the Count uses, and to the oral magic in Winona’s spells. Inconveniently considering the presence or absence of magical perception for each oral magic, we decided to name them. Oral magic using magical perception is called “Magical Perception Oral Magic,” oral magic without magical perception is called “Non-Magical Perception Oral Magic,” and oral magic in spells is simply called “Spell.” While “Spell” might give the impression of using words for casting magic, since they essentially perform the same function, we decided to keep it as “Spell” to avoid unnecessary complications.
And the second discovery:
The point that “any fairy characters react to magical color” was found. This means that even words with only one meaning reacted. Of course, at the moment, there are only a few words with limited meanings, but since there could be words with multiple meanings, it’s not an absolute conclusion. However, the fact that all fairy characters react to magical color piqued my interest considerably. Well, if asked what significance it has, I wouldn’t know. Fairy characters are truly fascinating. Although it has been postponed due to busy schedules, I also want to start researching and investigating fairy magic and magic-infused natural substances. If fairies produce magic, there might be some practical applications. Currently, we prioritize magical experiments using fairy language and spells, but when we have time, let’s delve into the research of fairy magic and other aspects.
Every day, we diligently focused on our respective tasks. Winona, in particular, was very enthusiastic. She wrote into the dictionary, asked me questions, and engaged in discussions about the meaning of language with the Count and Carla. It wasn’t the same reserved demeanor as before; she actively participated in deciphering fairy language. While it made me happy, we are facing a bit of a dilemma now.
“I see… This is how it works.”
Whisper-like soft voices from Winona reached my earlobes. Currently, I am in the midst of answering Winona’s questions. She places the dictionary on the ground, staring at it intently. Melfi sits on top of the diary written in fairy characters. The Count and Carla are engaged in some discussion a little distance away. Winona’s serious profile is attractive, but for me, it’s bad for the heart. Perhaps because she’s focused. Winona, sitting beside me, leans her body toward me. Because of that, our faces are close, our bodies touching. However, she seems unaware of this fact. The sense of proximity is closer than ever before. If, for Winona, I have become such a close presence, I genuinely feel happy.
But honestly, it makes my heart race, and I can’t maintain composure. The feeling of gratitude for her familiarity and the situation where I can’t stay calm during research unsettles me. Since the confession, I’ve experienced this feeling many times. It’s not that I’m awkward, but somehow, I can’t find peace. I glanced at Winona’s face out of the corner of my eye. Her neatly arranged face right next to me seemed somehow different. The long eyelashes left a peculiar impression.
“Hey, Shion. Shion!”
“Huh?! Uh, what?”
Called by Carla, I looked around involuntarily. What am I doing? Melfi is looking up at me, tilting her head, and the Count is giving me an oddly warm look. Carla sighed as if exasperated. And Winona, with a bright red face, was looking down.
“Save the lovey-dovey stuff for later.”
Carla said with an exasperated tone. I finally grasped the current situation. Unconsciously, it seems I was staring at Winona.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! What am I doing?! Uuuuuu!!!!
Embarrassment made my face turn hot. Unable to fix my gaze, the thought of trying to play it off somehow crossed my mind. However, without saying anything, I could only fluster around.
“…I’m sorry.”
In the end, all I could do was apologize.
