Magic Maker – How to make magic in another world –
Chapter 13 Istria
I’m training magic as usual in my room.
Transitioning from the partial magic state to gathering magic in my right hand.
Colors and light reminiscent of a white lamp.
However, the amount of light is not that much.
Looking at it, it’s dazzling, but in terms of light intensity, it’s probably as much as a small light bulb.
Still, it’s amazing to think that the human body is emitting light.
The transition from the partial magic state to the gathering magic state is becoming smoother.
The problem is that there are remnants of magic imbued throughout the body, and the magic doesn’t gather completely in one point.
There will always be some amount of magic remaining.
Even when gathering magic in my right hand, other parts still glow faintly.
Is it impossible to completely gather this into one point?
“Hmm, maybe I’m approaching it wrong… I should pause and reconsider.”
Creating something new is not easy.
There are no textbooks, and there’s no one else with knowledge.
I have to think about everything myself, make assumptions, and come to conclusions.
The algorithm is simple, but there’s a big gap between assumptions and conclusions.
First, regarding magic.
Temporarily calling it magic, but I don’t completely understand what magic itself is.
What is certain is that magic is generated from the body, and coming into contact with others who possess magic has some kind of effect.
There are finer details, but this is the general idea.
Now, let’s pause and think here.
First of all, what is magic?
Even if we consider it as something like life energy, it’s impossible to visually manifest it.
Let’s put aside why this is possible for now.
It’s a field that I don’t seem to understand even if I delve deeper.
Science is the same; it analyzes processes from results and actively utilizes them, I believe.
The world is bound by physical laws, and we can only combine existing things.
On top of that, people learned to utilize it when some kind of reaction or phenomenon occurred.
The discoverer didn’t intend to create fire.
Fire was born through some trigger, and they must have thought about how to start a fire.
Magic is the same.
As a result, magic exists and is visualized.
However, magic itself is only vaguely existing.
For now, that is.
…I have no confidence in explaining magic itself.
I’ve only just discovered it, and the part about what this is remains unclear.
I’ll have to experiment and learn little by little from now on.
However, there are things I understand at this stage.
Thinking about the Trout, it’s clear that magic is being used as a communication ability.
However, that is simply conveying the fact of seeking courtship by creating a mass of magic, in other words, a ball of light.
Saying ‘I love you’ would be no different.
I doubt if I’m using magic itself effectively.
Even considering the Trout’s habits, I don’t seem to know how to convert magic into magic.
However, I am interested in the fact that the Trout is creating magic balls.
In the gathering magic state, I am only gathering magic in a part of my body.
In other words, it can only be maintained when magic is in contact with the body.
From the gathering magic state, I have to release the magic outside of the body.
The partial magic state is created by strongly being aware of emotions.
And gathering magic involves moving magic with consciousness.
To maintain either state, the consciousness of feeling joy when magic gathers in a part is necessary.
The ‘joy’ part could be anger or sadness; it doesn’t matter.
It’s just that joy was the most suitable for me.
To release it outside the body, a considerable amount of magic is needed.
It’s proven to be difficult from the partial magic state.
Probably, the amount of magic is too little, and it would disperse before releasing.
So, it’s necessary to gather magic to a part and then release it.
But when it comes to this, it gets a bit complicated.
The thought of ‘I’d be happy if I could release the gathered magic from my right hand to the outside of my body’ is necessary.
Of course, I tried it. The result was that it disappeared without being released.
It’s not entirely impossible; I can see the moment when the magic is slightly trying to move away from my body.
I can’t float it several meters above ground like the Trout in a completely detached state from the body.
Is it because it requires significantly advanced technique, or is my approach wrong?
Even if I could release it outside the body, it wouldn’t be useful, but I can’t settle down without trying.
If others knew, they might think, ‘Why are you fixated on something like that?’
But I want to achieve it.
It doesn’t matter what anyone else says.
I want to do it.
It’s been over six months since I discovered magic.
But I’ve only made progress to the extent of emitting light from my body and being able to move it to some extent under my own will.
Even this is a significant discovery. But if you ask, ‘So what?’ when told about it, then so be it.
I’m not a researcher. While I may get excited about new discoveries, it’s because there’s a premise that I’m aiming towards using magic.
Currently, my research is at a standstill.
I need some kind of trigger.
I have no idea what that might be, so in the end, I continue practicing gathering magic.
At first, maintaining the partial magic state was limited to a few times, but now I can do it about twenty times.
However, the increase in the number of times is less compared to the beginning.
To maintain the partial magic state, magic release from within the body is necessary.
This is determined by the internal magic, in other words, my ‘total magic amount’ that I possess. It’s akin to MP, but the increase in this value is gradually decreasing.
I feel like the limit value I can release at once is increasing slightly.
There seems to be a limit to the increase in the total magic amount as well.
Anyway, I’m in need of progress soon. I’m getting disheartened, to say the least.
As I ponder what to do, the door was knocked.
Thinking it’s not my sister, I respond.
Then the person who came in was someone unusual.
It was Father.
“Were you studying?”
“N-no, I’m fine. What’s up?”
“I see. Actually, I was thinking of going to Istria. Will Shion be joining?”
Istria.
It’s a city in the Etten region.
The nearest mid-sized city from home.
That being said, our residing country, Lystia, seems to be quite a small country, so there are not many expectations.
I don’t know the exact population, but the total population of the country is said to be around a hundred thousand.
The land isn’t extensive, the villages are scattered, and there are only two places that can be considered major cities: Istria and the capital of Lystia, Sanostria.
“But, is it okay? You said only Dad was going to the city, right?”
I wanted to go to the city too.
I wanted to investigate about magic.
But I was stopped by Dad, saying it was dangerous to go to the city.
I begged several times, but it was no use.
Marie hasn’t gone either.
“Today is special. Not just me, but there are a few carriage drivers as well. They are also going shopping in the city, so I thought it’s a perfect opportunity.
I have other errands too. So, what do you think, will you come?”
Carriages are luxurious. While ox carts aren’t nonexistent for those in livestock, they’re not suitable for traveling; they’re slow. Therefore, carriages are the basis for going shopping.
However, carriages are expensive, and the maintenance cost is significant, so few people own them.
There are people who run a carriage rental business, but it seems there are none in the village.
Anyway, to travel to towns at a certain distance and return within a day, a carriage is essential.
And shopping in the city is necessary in every village.
It’s difficult for a village to be self-sufficient.
So, in most villages, they buy carriages collectively or relatively affluent individuals buy them and demand a handling fee in exchange for managing and shopping.
In our village, Dad provided a down payment, bought it, and slowly gets it paid back.
He didn’t opt for the method of purchasing and lending out, seemingly disliking being too dependent on the lord.
If completely repaid, the carriage becomes the village’s property, so even if something happens to the lord, they can keep it.
It seemed like Dad was seeking a lifestyle where the villagers supported each other to some extent, while promoting the independence of the subjects.
Putting that aside.
Dad’s suggestion was welcome to me.
Well, there are no convenient things like libraries in this country, so I don’t think there would be any books related to magic.
But I had a desire to see the city.
“Yeah, I’ll go.”
“I see. Then get ready. We need to be back before sunset.
Also, Marie and Emma are coming too.”
“Got it. I’ll get ready right away.”
Dad headed back towards the living room.
It seems it takes about three hours on foot to get to Istria.
It’s quite close, and you might think you don’t need a carriage for that, but when it comes to shopping, the luggage becomes substantial.
You inevitably need tools for transportation, and the moving speed is too slow with carts or ox carts.
If it gets late during the journey, you’ll have to camp, but this is very dangerous.
Monsters become ferocious at night, and in this world, it’s common knowledge that camping is accompanied by danger.
With mercenaries, the army, or a large group, you can manage it by posting guards.
However, fundamentally, traveling and camping at night are discouraged.
Naturally, for ordinary people like us, camping is a matter of life and death.
So we must always arrive in the village or town before nightfall.
Monsters, huh. I wonder what kind of creatures they are.
Because I was obsessed with magic, I only focused on information related to it, like history.
That’s why I don’t know much about monsters or fairies.
And, well, I can’t get much detailed information.
Maybe it’s because they don’t want to tell scary things to children.
But it’s emphasized that monsters are dangerous and to stay away.
Even when going outside, you always need permission from Dad or Mom.
Maybe this world is even more dangerous than I think.
Well, I should be fine as long as I don’t get into any trouble.
Dad is with us.
Thinking that, I put on my bag and left the room.
