Chapter 11 Magic research analysis 3
This is my usual room.
It’s a familiar sight, but also a comforting one.
I sit on the bed, entering a meditative state.
I make an effort to concentrate my consciousness.
Before, I was focused on emptying my mind, and that prevented magic release.
Now, I have succeeded in activating magic by strongly focusing on my emotions.
It’s been a month since I reached the bound magic state.
In this month, I have learned a few things.
One. To reach the bound magic state, you need to have a certain level of strong emotions.
And maintaining that emotion is very difficult.
It’s hard to sustain any emotion indefinitely. Unless something significant happens, the emotion tends to fade.
Two. There is a limit to how many times you can reach the bound magic state in a day.
I’m not sure if the concept of magic is correct, but for now, I’m assuming that the energy in this phenomenon is magic.
Naturally, you need fuel to manifest power. You spend magic and use magic.
Currently, I think I’m only releasing magic, far from using magic.
It’s obvious that magic is finite. Therefore, after releasing a certain amount of magic, the release stops.
When that happens, I suddenly become listless and don’t want to do anything.
The day when my magic was completely depleted was tough. I spent the entire day sleeping because I didn’t want to do anything.
It wasn’t an illness, just a complete lack of energy.
Initially, becoming the bound magic state only five times made me like that.
Three. When releasing magic power to near its limit, the next step is a slight increase in magic power.
The limit of magic power was initially five times in a state of partial magic.
However, now it’s possible up to ten times.
For a month, every day, I maintained a state of partial magic just shy of the limit.
As long as it doesn’t deplete, it doesn’t pose a significant hindrance to daily life, not resulting in complete lethargy.
However, I do get sluggish and tend to lose motivation, so caution is necessary.
Four. The state of partial magic, like the light orbs, is not visible to humans without magical potential.
And to those with potential, it’s visible, and when touched, they can feel its warmth.
I confirmed this by asking Marie to try.
Well, it’s not something to be particularly surprised about, but it’s important.
Things can change with circumstances; the light orbs and the state of partial magic are not necessarily the same.
However, there was a small discovery.
Magic power doesn’t stimulate oneself much.
With my magic power, I don’t feel much heat or sensation on myself.
But when Marie touches it, she feels the temperature and there’s a slight sensation.
I think this was a somewhat interesting discovery.
And five. This is the biggest issue.
“Aaaahhh! The light orb isn’t appearing!”
Yes. Despite increasing the magic power in a state of partial magic, there was no sign of the light orb.
In a state of partial magic, my entire body just faintly glows.
Even with an increase in magic power, the situation remains unchanged.
It just glows to some extent.
The amount of light doesn’t increase, and there’s absolutely no change.
“…Hmm, I wonder if there’s a limit to the amount of magic power that can be released.
Perhaps my release limit is represented by the magic power I’m currently releasing.”
The body faintly glows. If this is the maximum amount that can be released, maybe I can’t produce the light orb.
Huh? Does that mean the amount of magical power released is lower than that of a fish?
Haha, you’re kidding. It’s a lie, right?
“…Even if I increase the total magic power, if the limit of magic power that can be used at once doesn’t change, it seems meaningless.”
For example, let’s say I have a total magic power or MP – Magic Points of 100.
The MP needed to cast a spell is 5.
But if the limit of MP I can release at once is 4…
Then the spell cannot be cast.
Even if I have total magic power, if the release limit is less than the required magic power for the lowest-level spell…
Even with magic power, magic can’t be used.
It’s still too early to draw a conclusion, but the possibility exists.
That’s disheartening.
I’m just a human who can only make his body glow.
And only those with magical potential can see that I’m glowing.
Useless. Just glowing.
Huh?
Am I stuck?
Is this a dead end?
“No, no, no, wait. It’s too early to give up… There has to be something.
It’s essential. I absolutely can’t accept it ending like this!”
Having come this far, I can’t admit something like “I actually can’t use magic.”
I won’t give up. Absolutely not.
Stay calm.
There’s still something I can do.
Let’s recall the Trout’s example.
He made his body emit light and produced the light orb.
Where was it coming from again?
The head, it was around there.
Hmm? Ah, I see.
Even if there’s a predetermined amount of magic power that can be released from the entire body, it’s diluted.
What if I gather it in one place? Would it yield different results?
I concentrate my consciousness and imagine the emotion, and immediately enter a state of partial magic.
My whole body emits light.
Like this, I concentrate my consciousness in my hand.
As if magic power is flowing to my arm.
While maintaining the emotion, I attempt to propagate magic power to my arm—of course, I can’t do that—and the state of partial magic is canceled.
“This is too difficult…”
To emit magical power, you have to allocate consciousness to your emotions.
In that state, try to imagine the magical power concentrating somewhere in your body.
It’s simple in words, but in practice, it’s a struggle to find the balance, making it challenging.
There’s emotional thinking, recalling the feeling of joy, and there’s rational thinking, focusing consciousness on your right hand.
Simultaneously performing these conflicting thoughts is difficult.
No, that’s not right.
In fact, the order is reversed.
It’s wrong to activate magical power and then direct consciousness to the right hand.
“So, I should think like, when magical power gathers in my right hand, I feel happy.”
Perfect. All I need to do is infuse emotions into the act of gathering magical power in my right hand.
With that in mind, I tried it.
I enter a partial magic state.
My entire body emits light.
I’m used to this part.
But what’s different this time is that, at this stage, I already have the image of gathering magical power in my right hand.
The light throughout my body gradually gathers in my right hand.
The faintly stretched light intensifies as it converges into one point.
My right hand shines brilliantly, pure white.
The light emanating from my right hand is so dazzling, resembling the light of a white lamp.
“Ugh, whoa…”
I stood up and raised my right hand.
My glowing hand extended towards the ceiling.
“Hehehe! My right hand is glowing! Hehehe!”
I wondered if I could smash the wall like this.
It seemed possible, given the surging power.
I was too excited, losing my composure.
Chuckling, I headed towards the wall.
I couldn’t stop anymore.
After all, when a boy tries magic, he wants to test it out.
Even if I’m not really a child.
“Hyaa!”
I thrust my fist into the wooden wall with force.
In the next moment, a bang resounded.
Pain shot through.
Because it was a child’s fist, there was no hole in the wall.
Probably because my strength was weak, the pain wasn’t too intense.
It was a lucky break, but the light disappeared. In an instant.
“Th-this… darn it! It’s just… light!”
Even gathering magical power, it was just ordinary magical power.
I had expected that. Actually, it was obvious.
Even touching a mass of magical power just felt warm.
Of course, there wouldn’t be an impact strong enough to break the wall.
With disappointment, I looked at the wall.
Luckily, there were no marks. No holes either.
It was a lesson. My excitement got a little out of hand.
The results didn’t exceed my expectations, but they did match them.
“Well, whatever! Hehehe, I could produce a strong light, hehehe!”
I looked down at my right hand, wearing a creepy grin.
But I still need more practice.
I couldn’t completely transfer all the magical power from my body to my right hand.
There’s still room for improvement.
I called the process of moving magical power from the magic-wielding state and gathering it in a specific spot “Gathering Magic.”
I named the state where the magic was gathered “Gathering Magic State.”
Naming it each time was for future considerations.
After all, it’s good to be able to explain the created magic clearly with words or writing.
I intend to teach Marie too.
Well, I’m not at that stage yet, so I plan to refine my skills a bit more before that.
At first, Marie was helping with observations, but recently she has been dedicating her time to her own training.
Magic research often involves spending time in a somewhat aimless manner, so it can’t be helped.
It’s not that she’s gotten bored; it seems like she wants to use her time more meaningfully.
Otherwise, she wouldn’t be able to do what she wants.
Since I asked her to do that too, the time for magic development where I don’t need help is spent by myself.
Now, let’s continue.
Anyway, there was progress.
“H-Hehehe… I’ve taken a step forward, hehe.”
I relaxed my cheeks and sat back on the bed again.
And I continued practicing Gathering Magic.
Of course, it goes without saying that I depleted my magical power from overdoing it.
