Lonely Me And The Lonely Caring Goddess - Chapter 219: The Dawn of a New Life.
I Reincarnated As A Trash Prince
The Dawn of a New Life.
The Satsukawa household was in turmoil over Sara-san’s unexpected cohabitation announcement (if it could be called that), with Masaomi-san putting up the most desperate resistance.
“H-Hey, Sara-san… If that’s the case, then how about having Takanashi-kun move into this house instead? You could live together here, right?”
“That would only inconvenience Kazunari-san. Besides, if we let our guard down, Mother would start plotting unnecessary things, so that’s out of the question.”
“Sara-chan, that’s so cruel… I only want to dote on my future son as his mother-in-law…”
Hearing that seemed to shock Mayumi-san a little—or perhaps she was just pretending. But when she lowered her gaze slightly, I saw the corners of her mouth curl into a smile, confirming that it was indeed an act.
Still, Masaomi-san’s frantic resistance was understandable. Yet at this rate, the conversation would go nowhere.
“That’s enough already! I told you before—holding Kazunari-san, patting his head, doting on him—those are all for me alone! Mother, please focus on Father instead.”
“S-Sara!?”
Ah… There it was again. Another line adding fuel to Masaomi-san’s emotional fire.
At this point, perhaps it was time for me, as the man involved, to speak honestly. After all, Masaomi-san had said he wanted to talk to me too.
When I met his gaze, he nodded, seemingly ready for a serious conversation.
“Sara-chan, why don’t I help you pack? You must have a lot to take with you,” Mayumi-san said, catching onto our silent exchange and guiding Sara away with a topic she couldn’t refuse.
“Sara-san, I’ll wait here. You’re moving in with me…right?”
“Yes!! I’ll go prepare right away, so please wait just a little longer!”
Smiling happily, Sara-san turned and headed to her room. Mayumi-san chuckled softly at the sight before following after her.
Now, Masaomi-san and I were finally alone to talk. But we didn’t have much time before Sara-san returned, so I decided to speak up before he could even begin.
“Masaomi-san, I will never betray your trust. I’ve kept that promise until now, and I swear I always will. So please… trust me. I will do everything I can, so please let Sara-san do what she wants to do… I’m begging you!!”
I lowered my head deeply after conveying my resolve without averting my gaze. Words alone might not be enough to convince him, but if that was the case, then I would simply prove it through my actions. That’s why I needed permission—just a trial chance would be enough.
“Masaomi-san,” Mayumi-san said, having returned before I noticed. “Kazunari-kun has always taken good care of Sara-chan. He’s kept his promises to me as well. Even these past few days when Sara-chan ran away from home, he never stopped looking after her.”
It seemed Sara-san wasn’t with her. Mayumi-san was now showing an unusually serious demeanor, supporting my plea. Masaomi-san, too, listened to us intently without any dismissive remarks.
“…I see. Originally, I should be the one thanking you. Besides, even if I refused here, Sara would still go to you. That much is obvious from the way she looks at you. In that case, I suppose there’s no choice but to entrust Sara to you… Yes, I will believe in you. If that’s how it has always been, then I hope it will remain so. But… you two are still students. So, marriage is still a bit—”
“Masaomi-san, you’re rambling. Kazunari-kun, is this okay with you?”
“Yes! It’s perfectly fine!!”
I declared with renewed strength, and at last, Masaomi-san nodded with a smile, seeming to accept everything. Thank goodness… With this—
“I’m ready now. I’ve packed most of my things. If anything’s missing, I’ll come back to get it later.”
Right on cue, Sara-san returned carrying a large bag. Seeing her struggle, I gently took it from her despite her protests.
“…Thank you. Kazunari-san, shall we head home now?”
“Yes, it’s getting late. Let’s go.”
When I checked my phone, it was nearly 8 PM. Even if it was her family’s home, it was getting quite late.
Seeing us about to leave, Masaomi-san spoke up to Sara-san.
“Sara, I won’t oppose this anymore. I’ve decided to watch over you both. But please… come home at least once a week. Show us that you’re doing well.”
Masaomi-san had yielded so much already. There was no way I could reject that. If Sara-san didn’t want to, I planned to convince her myself.
“…Kazunari-san, what shall we do?”
The fact that Sara-san asked meant she was leaving the final decision to me.
“Masaomi-san, we’ll come back once a week, on a set day. Is it okay if I come with her?”
“Of course. You’re going to be our son-in-law someday. This house will be your home too. You’re always welcome here.”
Hearing that, Masaomi-san looked so happy as he accepted our promise. For his sake, I wanted to deepen my bond with Sara-san even further.
Besides, being with this family felt truly joyful to me.
“That’s right. And don’t think you can escape your mother-in-law’s hugs, okay?” Mayumi-san teased.
“Ahaha… I’ll do my best, Mother-in-law.”
I responded partly as a show of gratitude for their hospitality today, but my words seemed to have more impact than expected. Mayumi-san shivered with delight before suddenly lunging at me… only to have Sara-san intervene, receiving her mother’s warm embrace instead.
“I won’t let you,” Sara-san declared firmly.
“Oh, Sara-chan… I just wanted to hug my cute son-in-law-to-be…”
“Hahaha, tough luck, Mayumi.”
“Don’t laugh, Masaomi-san… Kazunari-kun, I’ll hug you next time, okay?”
The Satsukawa family is truly wonderful.
And the thought that I might one day become part of this family… made me genuinely look forward to that future.
***
“Thank you so much. Goodnight,” I said, stepping out of the car as Masaomi-san drove us back to my apartment.
“Goodnight.”
From the open passenger window, Masaomi-san called out:
“Takanashi-kun, please continue taking care of Sara-san. And… forgive me for repeating myself, but please…”
“It’s okay. Please trust me.”
“…?”
I knew he couldn’t help but worry, and I didn’t blame him. One day, I’d prove through my actions that I was worthy of his trust.
Watching this exchange with her head tilted curiously was Sara-san.
…
While Sara-san sorted her luggage, I folded up my collapsible bed. I wanted her to use it, but she refused, insisting she couldn’t take it while I slept on the floor. In the end, we always ended up laying our futons side by side anyway, so I decided it was just taking up space.
Seeing me put it away, Sara-san seemed to realise its meaning.
“It still feels like I’m dreaming… From today, we’re really going to live together… aren’t we?”
“Yes.”
“…And someday, I will become your wife… won’t I?”
“Y-Yes…”
Being asked so directly was embarrassing, but it seemed that hearing it from me reassured her that this was reality, not a dream.
Slowly, she stepped closer, wrapped her arms around my head, and pulled me against her chest.
“From now on… we’ll always be together. It feels like I might burst from happiness…”
She gently stroked my head as she whispered this with deep affection. I relaxed completely and let myself melt into her embrace.
“Kazunari-san, please never hold back from now on. If there’s anything I fall short on, tell me immediately. It’s all for our future together.”
That might be asking too much, but perhaps making reasonable requests would be acceptable… and besides, leaning on her sometimes made her happy too. It wasn’t just about me being spoiled… probably.
“Then… you shouldn’t hold back either, Sara-san. We’re living together now, so it can’t be just me.”
“…Is that really alright?”
“Of course. I mean, there’s not much I can do, but if you tell me not to hold back, then you can’t either.”
She seemed surprised by that, as if she hadn’t planned to rely on me at all. I was glad I told her upfront.
“Housework is my responsibility, so I don’t expect you to help. It’s what I want to do, so please leave it all to me.”
I knew how strongly she felt about managing the household, so her refusal was unsurprising. But perhaps there was something else.
“However… may I take you up on your offer, just a little?”
“Of course!”
I wanted to hear her requests while she was still feeling brave enough to say them.
“Could we… go grocery shopping together… sometimes?”
Her small, hesitant request was so simple and sweet.
“Of course. Let’s go shopping together from now on. Anything else?”
“That every day… you’ll let me hold you like this… and at night… sleep with me, in the same futon…”
“Uh… y-yeah. I understand.”
Her requests would turn each day into a new trial of self-control, but I would do my best.
“And… may I… lean on you sometimes too?”
“!? Of course!!”
She wasn’t used to asking for things, so her shy, halting words made my chest tighten with affection.
Kiss
Suddenly, a soft, warm sensation touched my cheek.
“I’ll do my best.”
“I will too!”
“Thank you… I love you… so much.”
Seeing Sara-san smile so radiantly made me feel like I could overcome anything.
And just like that… a new chapter in our life together began.
