Living Normally In An Abnormal World - Chapter 80: Ordinary Day
Chapter 80: Ordinary Day
Kinoshita Yuuto’s morning starts early.
As soon as his phone alarm goes off at 6 am, he wakes up. However, there’s Yuuna, lying on top of him in his bed, using him as a hug pillow. The first task of the morning is to remove her.
With practiced ease, he peels Yuuna off and puts her to bed in her own futon.
He goes to the bathroom, washes his face, and rinses his mouth. Then, he moves to his room, changes into his outdoor clothes, and combs his hair. Once he’s done, he heads to the kitchen to prepare breakfast and his beloved mother’s bento.
For breakfast, he always chooses something gentle on the stomach. Today, it’s bread, even though he’s Japanese.
(Come to think of it, I don’t remember the last time I had bread salad.)
That’s the simple reason for his choice of menu.
By the time he finishes preparing breakfast and the bento,
‘Good morning~’
‘Good morning’
The two of them wake up. Their eyes are still half-closed, and their bodies are unsteady, as if they haven’t fully shaken off the sleep. Yuuto returns the greeting, and the two head to the bathroom. Once they’re awake, they return, and the three of them eat breakfast together.
It’s delicious, and he finishes every last bite.
He hands the bento to Manatsu, who goes to her room to get ready for work. Yuuna changes her clothes and then asks Yuuto to style her hair.
‘What kind of hairstyle do you want today?’
‘Twin braids!’
‘OK’
‘You’re wearing your hair straight today, huh, niichan?’
‘Back to basics.’
Yuuna is still unhappy with her hair color, which is still blonde. Originally, it was the same color as Yuuto’s, but she’d changed it. It’s no wonder she’s lamenting.
‘There, all done.’
‘Thanks!’
‘No problem!’
Yuuna could style her own hair if she wanted to. She’s capable of any hairstyle, but she doesn’t have those mundane thoughts about wanting to grow up fast and be independent of her brother. She doesn’t want to waste the time they can spend together.
After a while, Manatsu leaves the house first. Then, Yuuto and Yuuna head to school together.
It was a small wish of Yuuna’s to go to school together, and by the time he was in fifth grade, it had come true.
The friendly siblings walk hand in hand (in a lover’s grip), chatting and laughing. They’re enjoying a completely ordinary day.
Once they arrive at school, they part ways and head to their respective shoe lockers.
And so, family time ends.
As Yuuto heads to his class, he greets many acquaintances. Once he sits at his desk, he opens a book he’s brought from home and immerses himself in the world of the story.
Those around him don’t want to disturb him, so they don’t talk to him.
(Yuuto-kun is reading pages 65 and 66. I’m sure it’s the part where his sister brings her boyfriend home—oh, he’s frowning. He’s imagining that Yuuna-chan has a boyfriend. Yuuna-chan is loved after all. He closed the book. He prioritized his imagination over the story. Then, he nodded three times and sighed. … Yes, he’s accepted it.)
That was the observation of a certain female classmate. She’s not as much of a stalker as Yanagida, but she observes Yuuto well. She can also accurately predict his patterns of behavior and the reasons for them.
(He opened the book. Yeah, he’s done imagining. Oh, he’s surprised. So, the current boyfriend is fake. Actually, she only brought him home because she wanted her brother to be jealous. Oh, he sighed even deeper than before. If he imagined it and then found out it wasn’t true, he’d be disappointed.)
‘Yuuto-kun!’
‘Yes?’
‘This is today’s diary. I think you’re the class monitor today, right?’
‘Oh, I forgot. Thanks, Miki-T!’
‘It’s okay, it’s okay!’
(He really did forget. Oh, he stopped reading his book. Of course, Yuuto-kun is serious. When he’s the class monitor, he wants to write down what he can first. He’s checking the schedule for today, writing down the teacher in charge, and the weather… hehehe, he’s trying to draw it well but failing. His drawing skills are still poor. Oh, he made a small fist pump. He drew it well. I’ll take a look at it later.)
And so, this female student continues to watch Yuuto whenever she has time.
‘Listen, Crazy Bone.’
‘What is it, My Stalker Girl?’
‘The 1 on 1 with Haruki-san. As expected, it’s become a trigger for the world to talk about basketball, basketball, basketball.’
‘Yeah.’
‘Marathons, fighting, sports. The number of sports you’re taking on is increasing, but are you okay?’
‘Well, somehow it’ll work out.’
‘You’re too casual about it.’
After school, in an empty classroom, Yanagida and Yuuto were facing each other across two desks.
This time, it wasn’t about running the fan club or consulting about the newspaper; Yanagida was simply giving Yuuto a concise report on the impact his actions had had on the world.
There was no need to do this in an empty classroom. He could have talked about it at home, but Yanagida wanted to talk to him alone, just the two of them.
‘If they come, I’ll train them. That’s the solution.’
‘But before, your efforts were all for nothing.’
‘Don’t bring that up.’
‘But I haven’t forgiven you for that.’
‘Th-the wound has healed, right? Right?’
Yuuto has never been more afraid of his family than he was that day.
When he returned home, everyone was there. At that moment, Yuuto took off his mask, and what they saw was a cut on his lower lip. The blood had clotted, making it even more noticeable.
Yuuto only realized he had a lip injury when it was pointed out to him.
So, he wasn’t in a position to say ‘We won!’ with a smile. Instead, Yuuto did as he was told and sat in seiza in a visible place, bowing his head. Then, Manatsu gently told him to raise his head, and he did. But the next thing waiting for him was an awakubi. He wasn’t pulled hard, and her touch was soft.
It’s something you might see in a shojo manga. Normally, it would make your heart flutter. But in this case, it was anything but. Having all of them stare at his wound was bad for his heart.
For them, the fact that he’d caused an injury was a crime, and he deserved to be scolded. After they’d properly scolded him, Elina, seeing how upset he was, praised him.
‘To be honest, I didn’t do anything wrong, right?’
‘Huh?’
‘I’m sorry.’
‘That’s fine.’
It seems Yuuto has become completely subservient to them.”
