Living Normally In An Abnormal World - Chapter 13: An Unremarkable Day
Chapter 13: An Unremarkable Day
“…What’s your type, Kinoshita-kun?”
“What?”
“What’s your type when it comes to girls?”
Being asked something like that out of the blue, I couldn’t come up with an answer immediately. Plus, we’re in the middle of class.
Because I was into Akihabara-things, I used to think, “I don’t need romance. For now, I’ll just adore cute characters!” Looking back, I might have been giving up on love altogether.
I’m still an elementary school student, so I don’t think I need to worry about it yet. For now, I’ll just maintain my style of being kind to those who are kind to me.
Oh… I’m getting off-topic. As for my type… let’s just say it’s a Yamato Nadeshiko.
“A Yamato Nadeshiko… I guess.”
“Yamato Nadeshiko? Is that the name of someone you like?”
She narrowed her eyes and stared at me. The gaze of a cool beauty is scary.
“No, Yamato Nadeshiko is more of an image. Someone with a gentle and refined personality, who is also dignified and modest in their behavior. Intelligent, pure, kind to everyone, and never causing discomfort to anybody. A woman who can truly devote herself to her partner… that’s what I imagine when I think of a Yamato Nadeshiko.”
Damn, even as I was saying it, I realized that such a woman doesn’t exist. That’s probably why I didn’t have a girlfriend even in my past life. It’s so lonely.
“I see.”
With that, the conversation ended.
I couldn’t ask her what her type was. The gender ratio in our class is already unbalanced, and it would be stupid to ask the woman sitting in front of me about her preferences.
If I did, she might misunderstand it as me saying things like, “You like me, don’t you? Just confess already!”.
“…So, what’s the answer for this part, Yuuto-kun?”
“Hmm… I see, so that’s the kind of person you are.”
“Yes, that’s correct.”
“As expected of Kinoshita-kun.”
“Thank you.”
I couldn’t tell her that I knew because I learned it in my past life. And in my head,
(“So, that’s the kind of person you are.”)
Someone was pointing and laughing at me.
○ Lunchtime ○
“Is your type a Yamato Nadeshiko, Yuuto-kun?”
Apparently, Rina had overheard our conversation earlier.
“Is that true, Yuuto-sama?”
Maria had also heard about it.
The two of them ended up sitting behind me during the next day’s seat lottery, so I guess they overheard our conversation by chance.
During lunchtime, we push our desks together and eat in groups of four.
Our group consisted of Samejima-san, Rina, Maria, and me.
I said a Yamato Nadeshiko because I couldn’t think of a type that really clicked with me, but it wasn’t entirely wrong, so,
“Yeah, that’s right.”
“Does that mean you don’t feel attracted to anyone else?”
Are the two of them trembling?
“No, it’s not like I don’t feel attracted to anyone else, it’s just that my ideal type is a Yamato Nadeshiko.”
“I see.”
“I see…”
“So, is there a type of person you dislike?”
I tried to ask about their preferences indirectly. I wanted to know what kind of girls my female classmates liked. It would be useful to know these things for the future.
“Someone who is unkind, unfriendly, unintelligent, arrogant, and a freeloader.”
……I’ll make sure not to become that kind of person. It’s interesting that all three of us had the same opinion.
Wait, that’s definitely a description of a guy they would hate.
“Well, I might become like that in the future.”
The current me is relying on the knowledge from my past life, but that only goes up to high school. I might make a mistake somewhere and change for the worse.
“I don’t think you’ll become like that since you’re already doing housework at such a young age.”
“Really?”
“Yeah, that’s right.”
“Thanks.”
It made me happy that they trusted me.
Hmm? Everyone’s already finished eating? I’ll start cleaning up, but I might as well help them out too since I’m at it.
“Do you want seconds? If not, I’ll start stacking the plates, so pass them to me.”
“Ah… thank you.”
“Don’t mention it. I’m doing mine anyway.”
It seemed like everyone was done with their meal, so I started stacking the plates and cleaning up.
“You’re so considerate, it’s no wonder everyone easily falls for you.”
Her comment was drowned out by the sound of plates being stacked.
○ On the Way Home ○
Today, I was the class monitor, so I went to the staff room to write the class journal and submit it to the teacher. As I was returning to the classroom, I noticed Samejima-san looking down and searching for something, so I asked,
“Are you looking for something?”
“I dropped a strap of my favorite character.”
“Do you want me to help you look for it?”
“Thank you…”
“Sure.”
Now that I knew, I had to help her search. I couldn’t just say, “Oh, good luck with that,” and leave.
She searched the hallway, while I searched the classroom. Apparently, she realized she had dropped it by her shoe locker when she was leaving.
First, I searched under the desks. If I stepped on it and broke it, that would be terrible. But I couldn’t find it anywhere.
(Maybe it’s in the lost and found box?)
I opened the lost and found box inside the teacher’s desk, but it wasn’t there.
(Hmm… maybe it’s on top of the locker?)
Some people might find it troublesome to put things in the lost and found box, so they just leave them on top of the locker instead.
I couldn’t see the top of the locker, but I could reach it, so I climbed onto a nearby chair to take a look. I had taken off my indoor shoes, so I wouldn’t dirty the chair.
When I searched on top of the locker, I found a strap, so,
(This is probably it, right?)
I wasn’t entirely sure, but I took it to her.
“Is this it?”
“Yes, that’s it… Thank you.”
“See you…”
As I turned my back to her and started walking towards the classroom,
“Wait… Kyaa!”
She tried to stop me but ended up tripping over her own feet, and I was dragged down with her.
Thanks to me acting as a cushion, her face ended up in my chest area. If I hadn’t been there, she would have hit her face on the ground.
“I-I’m sorry…”
“It’s fine… Are you hurt?”
“……No.”
“… …”
“Can you get off me now?”
“Ah… sorry.”
“Sure.”
She stood up, and I followed suit.
“See you.”
With that, she ran off.
In the end, I never found out why she had tried to stop me.
(What was that about?)
With that question lingering in my mind, I headed home.
○ The Next Day, in the Classroom ○
“Good day, Yuuto-kun.”
“… …”
“Is something the matter, Yuuto-kun?”
“… Rina.”
“Yes?”
“I was in the wrong, so can you go back to the usual Rina?”
“Yeah… I was getting tired of acting like that too.”
As we were talking, Maria arrived at school.
“Good morning, Maria.”
“Good morning, Maria-chan!”
“Good day to you both.”
“… …”
“Is something amiss?”
“No sense of incongruity.”
“Huh?”
“As expected of an ojousama.”
“Indeed, an ojousama.”
“What do you mean?”
“It’s an inside joke.”
“I see.”
An ojousama = Yamato Nadeshiko… perhaps.
