Chapter 38: The Exiled Marquis’ Daughter and the Magical Wilderness, Part 1
Having a sister from the church with us is highly advantageous if our goal is to raise our adventurer rank.
The church can send us special requests, and even if they don’t, having an expert in healing magic significantly broadens our capabilities.
In the Kingdom of Faltar, it’s rare for adventurers to form parties. However, in the Kingdom of Orcula, it’s unusual not to form parties. Having a healer greatly impacts a party’s ability to keep fighting. Healing magic can’t be replaced by skills, and magic must be learned rather than inherently known like skills.
While many adventurers learn and use magic through self-study, offensive magic is usually prioritized.
Thus, sisters and priests who specialize in healing magic are highly valued.
Let me emphasize again: sisters and priests who specialize in healing magic are highly valued.
“Sorry.”
Shara Lansra apologized.
We were four hours north of Hecatai by carriage, much faster on foot for adventurers.
At the edge of the human territory near the magical wilderness, adventurers call this place simply “the camp.”
Shara Lansra apologized at this camp.
“I’m a nun, but I’m not very good at healing magic.”
“We know.”
“We’re aware.”
We answered, thinking it was a bit late to mention that.
“I saw you couldn’t heal a wound where the rib was sticking out from the abdomen.”
Hearing Erika’s blunt assessment made Shara feel downcast.
“Yes, well, that’s true. My seniors even suggested I change factions because of my skills.”
“Change factions?”
“I was originally in the Healing Faction… but I became much better at offensive magic than healing magic, even though I’m a sister. So, they suggested I switch factions.”
Shara explained, looking visibly disheartened.
It was surprising to hear that her seniors told her to change factions.
It seemed she didn’t want to change, so she was effectively pushed out.
“Everyone has strengths and weaknesses, and it’s best not to worry about it. Facing the Golden Ogre for the villagers while injured suits you more, Shara.”
Erika’s words were meant to comfort her, but for someone from the Healing Faction, who aimed to help the weak through treatment, it might not be much comfort.
The faction that aims to help the weak by assisting in monster subjugation, like Shara now, is called the Defenders’ Faction.
“Do you really think so?”
“Absolutely. I can’t imagine you using healing magic in a clinic instead of facing powerful foes for the sake of the weak.”
“Can I really do it?”
“I assure you, Shara, you can do it.”
“Thank you, Erika. I’ll give it a try.”
“That’s the spirit.”
Feeling left out of the conversation was a bit lonely.
I watched the two of them, feeling downcast.
