Chapter 30: Shopping with the Exiled Marquis’ Daughter, Part 2
I’ll be honest—I thought the wait was longer than expected.
But, I also felt it was worth it.
Erika came out of the store dressed like an adventurer.
She wore pants and boots, along with shin and knee guards that looked easy to move in. The inner side of her thighs was reinforced, making them thicker.
Her upper body was covered with a leather chest guard, gauntlets, and reinforced shoulders.
Both her top and bottom were made of white fabric, which was probably monster hide.
The gear was of such high quality that it seemed impossible for a Rank 1 adventurer to afford it, but it suited Erika well.
“How do I look?”
Erika asked.
“You look strong.”
After a slight hesitation, I answered.
“Thank you.”
It seemed “strong” was the right answer rather than “suits you.”
“And look here.”
She pointed to her arm.
I followed her finger to see a blue line running along the white fabric.
“It looks good, doesn’t it?”
I nodded, slightly averting my gaze.
It seemed I still got nervous around things I liked.

Comsas Dotevil, lord of the Makikomarklo frontier, held his head in his hands at his mansion in Hecatai.
Last night, he read a report from the Adventurers’ Guild.
He already knew that the marquis’ daughter had arrived in town.
He also knew that a man, either her guard or a partner in some farce, was with her.
However, he hadn’t heard that these two could defeat three Golden Ogres.
Comsas was a significant figure in the Orcula Kingdom.
Despite his importance, he was distant from central politics.
To be precise, he had no time to get involved in central politics, and his temperament made him grateful to stay away from the court’s intrigues.
But this distance from the center had its drawbacks this time.
He knew the basics about the marquis’ daughter but wasn’t informed of the details and didn’t seek them out.
If he had been closer to the center, he would have naturally known more, but his lack of friends also kept his knowledge limited.
Comsas was a timid and anxious person, weak against being unprepared or caught off guard.
This anxiety made him diligently work day and night as the frontier lord, protecting the country from the magical wilderness.
Comsas coordinated with the adventurers who were the main force against monsters and the guild that managed them, along with commanding the frontier army, the greatest force besides the king’s.
This recent news was part of the collaboration with the adventurers’ guild.
Typically, the kingdom’s army and nobles had a complicated relationship with adventurers and their guilds—neither getting along well nor completely avoiding each other.
However, Comsas, being a realist, didn’t mind these issues.
Even though he didn’t mind, he wished that surprising reports like these were written more thoughtfully to avoid giving him a shock.
According to the report, the two in question were 16 years old and Rank 1 adventurers.
The man was previously a Rank 4 adventurer in Faltar, but still, the idea of the two of them defeating three Golden Ogres was simply insane.
While it was well known that Faltar’s few adventurers were all exceptionally strong, it was hard to understand how a former Rank 4 adventurer and a noble girl who hadn’t even graduated from the academy could accomplish such a feat.
Normally, the increase in skilled adventurers would be great news for Makikomarklo and the town of Hecatai.
However, those two adventurers were the particular pair in question.
Comsas had assumed that the noble girl exiled from the country would live quietly in his town.
He never imagined she would become an adventurer performing such incredible feats.
This realization brought new worries.
The issue was how to handle the church.
How would the church react to someone who once plotted the assassination of the Maiden of Light now thriving as an adventurer?
Would they ignore it? Or would they come to him with concerns?
Comsas held his head in his hands, sensing that troublesome events were about to unfold in the town under his control.
