Chapter 20: The Banished Marquis’ Daughter Finally Becomes an Adventurer, Part 2
The situation within the Adventurers’ Guild and the attitude of the guild staff were simple once I understood the reason.
It was due to the unreasonable demands from my mentor, a Rank 9 adventurer in another country, and my senior apprentice, who is already a Rank 7 adventurer, unlike me, who is not a full-time adventurer.
Even if they are high-rank adventurers, no adventurer in their right mind would threaten the Adventurers’ Guild unless they were exceptionally foolish.
When the adventurers heard that such fools were coming soon and saw two people matching the description entering the guild, it’s natural they would be on alert.
The guild staff, who were being intimidated—no, requested by high-rank adventurers, would be scared too.
What on earth did those two do?
I felt a serious headache.
Once the misunderstanding was cleared, things proceeded very smoothly.
As expected of the Adventurers’ Guild in Hecatai, also known as the Adventurers’ City.
The registration was very efficient, and Erika and I were registered as adventurers without much waiting.
Erika was curiously looking at the thin card-like magical tool, commonly known as a guild card.
By the way, since I already had one from the Kingdom of Faltar, it was updated with the information from the Orcula Kingdom’s Adventurers’ Guild.
Functionally, it’s just an identification card.
Classified as a magic tool, its main function is to prevent forgery, with additional features to check one’s name, current rank, and extermination records as a bonus.
“Still, you are quite the celebrity.”
Erika said this while we were walking towards the exit of the town.
“Defeating the Needle Spider Queen alone is something to be proud of, even by our standards.”
By “our standards,” she meant the standards of our academy.
“Even though I was alone, my mentor was with me.”
I clarified to avoid any misunderstanding.
I did defeat the Needle Spider alone, but it was part of my mentor’s training.
With a Rank 9 adventurer watching over me, I can’t claim it as my pure skill.
“Even so,”
Erika denied it with a strangely happy expression.
“I thought I had stopped underestimating you, but it seems I still was.”
“I’m not that impressive.”
“Oh? Is that modesty?”
Erika leaned in to look at my face.
Embarrassed by her cute gesture, I turned my face away.
“I see, you’re just embarrassed.”
Erika laughed as she said that.

Even though we were a bit delayed, we decided to go on our first monster hunt right after registering as adventurers, just as planned.
That’s why we went to the Adventurers’ Guild early in the morning.
By the way, it was Erika who suggested this.
She thought it would be fun to actually live as adventurers, not just in name.
I wasn’t sure if she said that to get through the farce we went through or if she really meant it.
But one thing was clear.
“It looks like you’re having fun.”
I muttered as I watched Erika subjugate monsters, turning the surroundings into a sea of fire.
We were in a grassland about two hours south of Hecatai, using body strengthening magic to get there on foot. We chose this location based on a request to eliminate monsters that frequently appeared on the way from one of the farming villages that supply food to Hecatai.
It might have been too easy for Erika’s first job.
The monsters sighted were called Bonbos, monkey-like creatures with long claws.
They form groups, but their strength is suitable for Rank 2 adventurers, meaning they are quite weak. Even I found them easy, so for Erika, it was like swatting flies.
If there was a problem, it was that someone had failed to teach Erika the meaning of the word “restraint.”
Bonbos, despite being monkey-like monsters, often appear in grasslands. Their main characteristics are their long claws, about the length of a human pinky finger, and their tendency to move in groups.
When these Bonbos spotted us in the grassland, they attacked us.
To put it simply, they ended up facing hell.
The moment they came into Erika’s view, they were incinerated by pillars of flame shooting up from the ground.
Multiple flames erupted simultaneously, precisely targeting only the Bonbos’ feet.
About thirty pillars of fire rose at once.
From my perspective, being able to see magic, it was a hellish scene of golden magic shimmering briefly among the charging Bonbos, followed by pillars of fire and their screams of death.
It was probably a well-timed moment when the group was gathering, and the total number of Bonbos likely exceeded a hundred.
Regardless of whether they charged in formation, scattered to surround us, or tried to sneak up using decoys, Erika didn’t let any of them get close and engulfed them all in a sea of flames.
Bonbos are widespread monsters that also appear in the Kingdom of Faltar.
They are weak but attack in groups, often giving inexperienced adventurers a hard time.
They are sometimes called beginner killers and are despised by adventurers despite their weakness.
This is evident from their unique name, Bonbo, which stands out among the many simplistic monster names.
However, they were unlucky this time.
Watching Erika annihilate the Bonbo horde in just a few minutes, I couldn’t help but feel a little sympathy for the Bonbos.
“Good job, for now.”
I approached Erika, who had turned the entire area into a sea of fire, even though she managed to avoid spreading the flames uncontrollably.
It was an incredible feat supported by her precise control and vast magic power, but the sheer number of enemies had left several bald patches in the grassland.
Within a ten-meter radius, the only area without a bald patch was around Erika.
“There were quite a lot of them, weren’t there?”
She said, showing no signs of fatigue.
In fact, she looked quite pleased.
She probably used her magic to its fullest for the first time.
The power she displayed at the academy was nothing compared to the hellish scene she had just created.
Using magic without worrying about the surroundings was difficult at the academy.
There were simply too many people, and the space was limited.
So, even if she overdid it a bit on her first attempt, it shouldn’t be a reason for criticism.
It shouldn’t be, but I can’t avoid mentioning it.
I sighed inwardly.
“Erika, you see…”
My hesitant words made her look at me with a puzzled, yet cute, expression.
“It’s hard to say, but…”
“What is it?”
Ah, this is difficult to say.
“We failed the quest.”
