Chapter 19: The Banished Marquis’ Daughter Finally Becomes an Adventurer, Part 1
I became an adventurer when I was twelve.
It’s a bit too early an age to become an adventurer.
Unless there’s a very good reason, no one usually thinks of becoming an adventurer at twelve.
I didn’t realize it at the time, but that’s how the world works.
Commoners could become bakers or lumberjacks if they wanted.
Unlike me, a noble, they had many choices.
So, naturally, it takes a significant reason to decide to risk your life fighting monsters for a living at twelve.
In my case, I had no such reason.
If I had to give a reason, it was simply that I wanted to become an adventurer.
According to my mentor, that was a good thing.
When I was a twelve-year-old kid, “Kind Barbara” asked if I wanted to become her apprentice.
This was before I knew my mentor was a rank 9 monster.
A while later, Elsa, who was my age, became my fellow apprentice, and I spent the next three years training under my mentor as an adventurer.

Suddenly, as I looked up at the ceiling and pinched the bridge of my nose with my right hand, trying to endure the headache, Erika and the guild staff woman gave me suspicious looks.
“Forget everything those two said.”
“Huh? So, you’re not asking for special registration at rank 7?”
“I’m not.”
The guild staff’s face brightened a bit.
“And you’re not threatening to impale all the guild staff if we refuse?”
“I’m not. Also, even Elsa wouldn’t go that far.”
Her face brightened even more.
“Then we don’t need to worry about ‘Kind Barbara’ coming to show kindness to the guild master?”
“Sorry, that might still happen.”
The guild staff woman thought for a moment, then muttered something about only the guild master and sighed in relief.
Poor guild master.
“Thank goodness… really, thank goodness… All of us guild staff are truly grateful to you, ‘Unbefitting Longdagger.'”
The woman thanked me with teary eyes, but I didn’t deserve it.
In fact, I should be the one apologizing.
I didn’t know exactly what those two said, but I’m really sorry.
Apologizing in my mind, I decided to add something.
“Also, I don’t have a nickname, so just call me Longdagger or Shin. Even if I did have one, being called by a nickname is embarrassing.”
She tilted her head slightly at my words.
“But your nickname, ‘Unbefitting Longdagger,’ is officially registered with the guild.”
“What?”
“You defeated a herd of Shield Bulls alone at rank 1, took down a Lancer Python at rank 2, and defeated the Needle Spider Queen at rank 4, also alone. These feats were considered far beyond your rank. Additionally, despite being a noble, you humbly sought guidance from commoner adventurers. Your ambition and humility fit perfectly with the nickname ‘Unbefitting Longdagger.'”
The guild staff woman opened a book and read fluently in front of my stunned eyes.
“What is that?”
“It’s the Adventurer Guild Directory. When a nickname is officially recognized by a guild, it gets published here.”
“I don’t remember ever using that nickname.”
“It says here the nickname was recommended by Barbara.”
Hn—!
Hnn——!
Hnnn———!
I felt an overwhelming urge to shout.
Most of the victims of my mentor’s “kindness” end up like this.
I rarely found myself in the position of a victim, but being on the receiving end of ‘Kind Barbara’s’ kindness was hard to endure.
I suppressed the urge to shout, though my face might have twitched a bit.
“I see. Thank you for telling me.”
I managed to force out a thank you.
