Chapter 11: Reflecting on the First Time with the Banished Marquis’ Daughter, Part 1
About two hours had passed since Erika Solnzari had saved us, and I nearly fainted when I was told she liked me.
During that time, Erika Solnzari seemed to intermittently recall the source of the current ridiculous situation, almost turning into a curse-spouting machine.
I too felt faint every time I remembered the moment she said she liked me.
However, Merseja informed me from the driver’s seat that we were about to finish the itinerary for the first day.
“We’re almost at the town where we’ll be staying tonight, young man.”
Although I wasn’t particularly interested, I decided to take a look since he spoke to me. I opened the window on the intact door and looked ahead.
In the distance, I could see a town amidst the plains, still small in the horizon.
If I remembered correctly, it was called Sudavard.
I had been there a few times during my adventuring days, but it hadn’t left a strong impression on me.
My interest shifted elsewhere.
“By the way, Merseja.”
“What is it, young man?”
Merseja responded in a lazy voice, which was unbecoming for someone who was also supposed to be a guard.
“There really wasn’t any additional attack. Your assessment was spot on, senior.”
Merseja let out a peculiar laugh and replied proudly,
“There’s no organization that can send out assassins of Rank 6 caliber one after another. From their perspective, they’ve lost their precious assets.”
.
I glanced briefly at the face of the girl who had easily crushed them.
The girl in question seemed unaware of the topic and was enjoying the view from the window.
“Even if there were plans for additional attacks, we are unscathed and on guard. They’d probably want us out of their territory quickly to save face with their client.”
I agreed with Merseja’s words but decided not to let my guard down.
Adventurers are human, after all, and there are many reasons why someone might fall from grace.
However, the higher the rank, the rarer they become.
Even if a high-ranking adventurer falls a bit, their skills are still in demand.
Few adventurers fall so far as to be picked up by some criminal organizations.
The attacker who used magic had the skills of a high-ranking adventurer.
Whether they were a former adventurer or someone who gained such skills independently, it made no difference.
As Merseja said, that kind of power is precious to an organization.
Losing such a member would be a significant blow to the organization.
But still, I thought.
Our enemies are capable of turning humans into demons, somehow.
It would be too optimistic to think they are a normal organization.
Merseja noticed my expression and gave a wry smile.
“At least we can relax in the city.”
Merseja said with a laugh.
“If people started turning into demons in the middle of the town, it would cause a huge commotion.”

The city of Sudavard is known for its water-generating magic tools and barrier devices.
This means that all water, from drinking to household use, is produced by water-generating magic tools. Instead of being protected by walls, the city is surrounded by a massive barrier created by the barrier devices.
Of course, both of these require a vast amount of magic power.
It’s not practical to continuously supply such magic power using magic stones or similar means. Therefore, Sudavard uses the same method as other similar cities.
Which means…
I felt a slight chill as I sensed the magic power being drawn from me.
Merseja and the horses also seemed to feel the chill, shivering slightly.
The only one who didn’t react was Erika Solnzari.
After completing the entry procedures and entering the barrier, a small amount of magic power was drawn from us.
The city’s residents have their magic power gradually drawn to create water and maintain the barrier.
This is the method used by cities like Sudavard.
To my eyes, which can see magic power, streams of magic were visible rising towards the sky from all over the city.
Some might find these multiple streams of magic beautiful.
But I couldn’t help but follow just one stream with my eyes:
The golden magic power of Erika Solnzari.
