Lich reborn as a magic school student - 3: Girl in the rain
Rugged and Cold. Mountain peaks in all directions, and the endless tundra within. This is the land where I made my home after the fall of Vutia. For many years, I researched dark magics within a laboratory deep beneath these ice plains, but a new visitor had arrived before me.
A chill wind cut through the barren landscape as I faced the menacing figure. His humanoid body, adorned with ebony iron skin, gave off an aura of dread. Glowing red eyes bore into me as he spoke, “I recognize you as strong. I will conquer these lands, but I am willing to offer you a position by my side.”
My anger flared at that moment. A mere demon king dared to bargain with me, the Archmage of Vutia. Determination surged through my veins as I clenched my fists. My incantations, laden with power, hovered on the tip of my tongue.
Conjuring a firestorm between us, I set the icy tundra ablaze, flames roaring with a vengeance. The demon king, undeterred, charged through the inferno with a fiendish grin.
“Fire against a king of hell? Truly foolish,” he taunted, shrugging off the flames that licked his ebony form. His movements were uncannily swift. As he swung his sword with the speed of a viper, I teleported 500 meters away, escaping the deadly arc by a hair’s breadth.
Realization dawned on me: the demon king was not just formidable but relentless. I could feel the temperature drop as a chilling darkness gathered around him. He was drawing power from the abyss.
Desperation mingled with my resolve as I conjured a fiery ball of pure destruction, unleashing it with a mighty thrust. The incandescent projectile connected with the demon king’s abdomen, but it was as though I had thrown sparks at a tempest.
He laughed, the sound echoing in the desolate landscape. “You think fire will be my undoing?”
Undeterred by his mockery, I focused my magical energy, conjuring a towering fireknight to shield me. The armored sentinel materialized between the demon king and me, its fiery blade raised high.
The demon king wasted no time. In a blur of motion, he cleaved through my fiery guardian. The knight crumbled into fiery fragments that burst into a colossal explosion. However, the demon king’s chuckle remained undaunted as he emerged from the inferno, slightly more irritated.
“If fire is all you can do,” he declared, “then you will lose against me here.”
As the demon king lunged toward me, the ground quaked beneath his colossal footsteps. His blade, imbued with infernal might, aimed for my heart. But I was prepared.
With a swift incantation, I conjured dark magic I had never revealed before. From the very earth, obsidian spikes shot upward, piercing through the demon king’s ebony armor. He cried out in surprise and agony, and his advance halted.
“What is this!?” he roared, struggling against the dark tendrils that held him in place.
“What? You didn’t expect a mage to know dark magic,” I replied with icy resolve.
“I am the Archmage of Vutia,” I declared, “and the Contractor of the Devil of Names.”
The demon king’s fury was palpable, but he knew he was outmatched. “I shall have my revenge,” he hissed through gritted teeth.
With those words, his massive form gradually dissolved into the chilling wind, leaving me to survey the land once more.
Rugged and Cold. Mountain peaks in all directions, and the endless tundra within, but now the land of barbarians was overrun with demonic armies.
—————————————————————————-
I awaken from my trance, the visions of my first encounter with Azurfar slowly leave my mind, and in my chest, I feel the beat of a second heart. Though incomplete it is apparent.
I look outside the window and I see rain. I do not know why but I feel the rain calling to me, and I decide to head outside. Walking through the city streets I slow down my mind and see the flashing lights of this civilization passing by, reminding me of the many fireballs flung in my conquest of the continent.
But once again my trance is broken as in front of me I see a child crying. “What is it?” I ask the child, “Umm I can’t find my mommy” the child responds. I spread forth my essence and search for this one’s blood, and quickly find a woman frantically looking around. Conjuring a light show I create a path between the two, and they quickly notice each other and reunite. Not wanting to be troubled further I blend myself into the scenery with illusion magic and continue my walk through the city.
Venturing forth I end up bumping into a tattooed man “The Fuck! Watch where you’re going! You little brat!” he shouts at me right away. Brat he says, an 800-year-old lich is a brat. Well, I am technically in the body of a teenager right now so he isn’t that wrong. I try to continue walking, but he grabs onto my shoulder. Instantly my combat instincts flare up, and I erase his existence. Anti-Creation magic, quite literally erasure. There is nothing left of him.
Looking at the empty place where the man used to be I think of how interesting it is. A human life was expunged so instantaneously and with so little warning. I do not feel regret, nor do I feel pity. I have killed billions, and one more does not add anything to my already broken conscience. However there are still humans in this world who knew of a time when magic did not exist, and to them, the idea that a human life would be erased so easily must sound truly strange. I exit out of my trance and continue my walk.
Finally, I reached the place that was calling to me, and I saw a playground. On one of the swings, I see a beautiful girl, with blonde hair, and ample bosom. She is crying for some reason. I ponder, why do I feel myself being called to this place? However, pondering will not find me any answers so I step forth towards her.
She doesn’t seem to notice my presence so I speak up “You’re going to get sick if you stay in the rain too long” This I knew well since Prince Edward in his younger years liked playing in the rain very much.
The girl finally looks up with her hollow eyes “Kashra? This doesn’t have anything to do with you, so don’t bother with me”
How does this girl know me? I ask “Do I know you?”
She blinks and responds “We’re in the same class”
“I See”
A Silence breaks between us
She looks back down. Seemingly trying to not pay attention to my presence.
Well, whatever though for some reason I want to help her still. I conjure an umbrella and hand it over to her.
She looks confused and asks “Why are you giving this to me?”
Not answering her question I say “Don’t stay in the rain too long” and then walk away. I’ve had enough of talking to her.
I turn around and start walking away. “Wait” she speaks as quietly as a whisper, but my magic-enhanced senses can even pick up that. However, I do not heed her words as I am beginning to feel tired. I continue walking through the rain letting myself be further soaked until I finally reach home. My body seems heavy for some reason. I step towards the bed but….
