Lich reborn as a magic school student - 24: Hlöðmundur vs Kashra
—————————————————[Hlöðmundur’s Pov]
When the first mages appeared, the world governments needed to choose their approach to them. While most governments embraced them, the last kingdom, the kingdom of Yeonguk, in fear of their royalty losing power, they instead suppressed the mages. The country treated mages as second-class citizens, and the government instituted laws in place that would make it illegal to practice magic, and had special police divisions in place that would find and execute illegal magic users.
This all ended when a rogue mage walked through the gates of Yeon castle, and massacred the entire royal family there. He was the first mage used in battle, and he showed the world the terrifying power of magic. Immune to bullets, and able to survive continuous artillery bombardment, he was an unstoppable force of nature that sought his targets, and killed them.
That man was me, Hlöðmundur. After the fall of Yeonguk, I spent 2 decades wandering the world destroying any country that suppressed mages, till Cere hired me to become a magical teacher. Titled “Greatest Spell sword”, I am believed to be the strongest in combat in the world, even though the archmage can overwhelm me in pure power, I would win all fights.
I have utter confidence in winning against Kashra, even if his claims are true. I have fought for so long that I can’t imagine a fight which I would lose. With these thoughts, we make it to the custom combat stadium created for the school. In the stands are the students of the class, and on the opposing side is Kashra with his arrogant attitude, looking down on all things, like he was some kind of god.
I grab the sword on my side and ask, “Are you ready?”
“I need no preparation for you. Go ahead, I will give you the first three bouts.”
I rush forward, [Flash Step] with a blinding light I encircle Kashra at a speed unable to be traced with human vision. Something is wrong. His eyes, they’re tracking me. Running behind him in an instant, he doesn’t turn around, rather letting me to his back. He’s looking down on me too much.
I lunge forward, airborne as I thrust towards his back with my blade, but with the slightest movement, he evades and places his hand so that my neck would fall into his grasp. [Short Fly], I fly back, getting out of range. What was that? He was keeping track of me, and knew my movements even though I was behind him, and he predicted my path and made a perfect move so that I would defeat myself. If I was even slightly slower, I would’ve lost in the first bout.
Does he have some ability that allows him to see all things? Let’s confirm. [Heavy Fog] A heavy fog overtakes the stadium. This has the problem that I can’t see either, but I’ve already developed a spell for this kind of situation. [Heat Sense]. With that, I can see Kashra through the heat in his body.
Maybe he has keen hearing, but [Silent Steps] will counter that. Again I approach him, and slash towards him, empowering my strike with [Giant Swipe], which grants me the strength of a giant for one attack. Just before my slash could hit him, a sudden wind pushes me away, and the fog disperses, and in the middle of the stage Kashra again remains looking down at me.
I can’t defeat him with clever uses of low-level magic. [Sky’s Crown] Lightning courses through my body, and my senses sharpen to where I could count all of my own hairs. [Extreme Propulsion] I am flung towards Kashra at an extreme speed, and I prepare my sword to strike down with both momentum and magical power, and in the final moment as my blade is about to cut Kashra I cast [Great Smite] my blade containing the power of lightning, extreme speed, and holy power cuts Kashra stopping at his heart which I cannot cut.
“I won.” I say, but Kashra, even with a fatal wound, grasps me with overpowering strength. From behind me I hear, “Three bouts, and now it’s my turn.” Turning my head slightly while tightly held by the heavily injured Kashra, I see another Kashra.
“When you cast [Heavy Fog], I cast [Become Fog] [Create Phantom] and [False Flame]. I even left behind a hint. The position of the phantom was not the same as my starting point, but you did not notice. Now it’s time to end this. [Sky’s Crown] [Extreme Propulsion] and [Great Smite] was it?”
A sword appears floating next to Kashra, with its tip pointing towards me. Suddenly it’s surrounded by lightning, and then it starts to shaking intensely, and finally it’s covered in holy power. “It’s an interesting idea. The spells nicely combine to create a powerful strike, but it’s not enough for my uses. To show you the difference between us. Here.”
He snaps his fingers, and surrounding him appears hundreds of floating swords. “[Sky’s Crown]” the hundred blades emit lightning. “[Extreme Propulsion]” each starts shaking intensely. “[Great smite]” Hundred blades with my greatest technique floating around Kashra with their tips pointed towards me.
Those soldiers of Yeonguk, is this how they felt. A power incomprehensible to the human mind, a god to a man. Kashra is a power over mankind. I believed we the mages were already beyond, but Kashra has shown me another realm even greater.
“Go.” with those words, the hundred blades fly towards me. They strike me down, and I die. Everything goes dark as the hundred blades pierce me. “9th tier [True Ressurection]” Suddenly from the darkness a spark of light appears, and I look around. Around me I see the hundred blades on the ground, powerless, and looking down at me is Kashra.
“I died?”
“You did.”
—————————————————[Author’s Note]
Hello guys, last time I said I was going to go on military duty, but unfortunately I had a panic attack on my first day and was sent back home. I’ll be trying to get a medical exemption from military duty because of this, but only time will tell whether I can, but anyway I’ve come back with another chapter, and will continue to write more for the time being.
This chapter was a little short, as I just wanted to write the fight between Kashra and Hlöðmundur. This was my first time writing a fight scene, so I’d like to hear what you guys thought of it, as I have no clue what I’m doing, kekw.
