Lich reborn as a magic school student - 22: Not so evil?
—————————————————[Atraharis’ Pov]
– Kashra the Immortal was born in the kingdom of Vutia, where he became archmage at 28.
– After the fall of Vutia, he became a demon lord in the violent lands after performing an ancient rite to steal the heart of the demon lord Azurfar.
– He later fought alongside the elves and destroyed the Habarene empire, claiming the title of ‘Death’ at the same time.
– He fought alongside the Demi-god Sagard destroying many evils of the lands, but in secret he sowed anarchy across the continent.
– When chaos took over the continent, he made an army of evil and formed a dominion of darkness that blanketed all the realms.
– The gods sent forth a hero with a holy sword to kill him, but even with the blade through his chest, Kashra the immortal refused ultimate death, and was instead reborn in the body of another Kashra.
While gazing at the piece of paper detailing the legends of the archlich Kashra, I state aloud his many titles, and a final sentence of, “It’s true, apparently.”
Leah, the person who asked me to use my magic, shouts, “There’s no way that’s true!” She walks over to me, and grabs the paper out of my hands, and slowly reading it, she becomes horrified. She looks at Kashra with dread on her face.
“I am the archmage of Vutia.” Kashra states with confidence.
Leah, to calm herself, says, “Even if you used to be some big shot, you’ve probably been weakened.”
“Actually, I doubt that, since his magical energies are terrifying.” John Knight crushes any hope of salvation.
“I have been weakened. I can barely cast ninth tier spells.” Kashra throws oil into the fire with a blank expression.
“Hahaha, that doesn’t seem that weak.” Hænir says with a laugh.
“I have noticed that this world’s standards are very different.” Kashra replies with a slight smile.
Now that I look at him, he doesn’t seem as scary anymore. Cold yet friendly somehow. Even if he has the power to destroy everything I know, it doesn’t seem like he would. Wait a second, yes, he would. He destroyed an entire continent.
“Kashra, what do you plan to do to the world?” I ask, hoping to calm my fear-filled heart.
“Nothing? I have no proper wish, well that isn’t exactly correct. I have a feeling that there is something I might want in this world, and until I can find it, I will keep this world in a similar enough form.”
“Hey Atraharsis, could ya share that paper around?” Hani asks.
“Oh, yeah.” I respond while casting my magic to repeat the text from the paper onto the white board in front of the class.
After the letters appear in front of the others, a similar reaction happens, of first being intrigued and then horrified. Then Aslac jumps up from his seat and walks towards Kashra. “The text referenced gods’ right. Have you met them?” He asks Kashra with unmistakable excitement.
Kashra ponders for a bit and states, “I’ve traveled with the Demi-god Sagard, and I put the god of spirits into a coma.”
“You… put… a god… into a coma? How? Why? What?” Aslac stammers while taking slight steps backwards.
“How? Magic. Why? She knew what I was.” Kashra replied calmly.
“But aren’t gods supposed to be much stronger than mortals?” Aslac tries to reaffirm his belief.
“They are, but I was an immortal archlich that could summon hundreds of stars to fall, destroying multiple cities. I tread the realm of divinity in my quest for retribution for lost Vutia. Even the divine forces that were my undoing had to form a coalition, and use powers long forbidden, yet not even that would be my end.”
“Did Vutia have good food?” Ida asks, ending Kashra’s monologue.
“It did. It had the best food across all the western kingdoms. After its fall, I did not eat food for many centuries, and even now I prefer foods with no taste, so I am not reminded of what was lost.” Kashra says, while nostalgia covers his face.
Miyazato appears behind Kashra and asks, “Are you the evil?”
“Maybe.”
“Is there another who could be considered such.”
“Yes.”
“I will go perform a ritual.”
“Wait, Kashra, what do you mean there’s another evil?” Kaede asks Kashra.
“Some beings which ran away from me are trying to invade this world.”
“What?” a voice in union resounds through the class.
“When I had just been dubbed ‘demon lord’ I fought against many other demon lords to notify all hell that I was the strongest, but there were three demon lords which had been hiding for many millennia, and refused my challenge. The appearance of magic in this world is a sign of their upcoming invasion.“
“Kashra, will our world be alright?” Kaede asks, a little scared.
“They cannot defeat me.”
“You seem very confident in yourself.” Hænir says.
“I am the archmage of Vutia, and it is the duty of the archmage to be the strongest.”
—————————————————[Archibald’s Pov]
I teleport back into the classroom after finishing my dinner to hear a very bold statement from Kashra. ‘I am the archmage of Vutia, and it is the duty of the archmage to be the strongest.’ Gazing at the whiteboard, I see an outline of otherworldly events. What kind of game are they playing? Demon lord? Vutia? Demi-god? Strange words they use.
“What’s going on here?” I ask Atraharsis since he’s usually good at keeping track of the situation in the classroom.
“Ah Archibald, I used my magic on Kashra and found out he’s apparently from another world.”
What? The thing written on that white board is the truth? It wasn’t some weird fairy tale? “Are you certain?”
“Well, have you seen my magic fail yet?”
That is fair, Atraharsis’ magic is quite absolute in its effect. Then this means that Kashra is a special being that requires significant attention. I send a mental command to the other teachers to gather in the teachers’ lounge. Then I walk towards Kashra and say, “Kashra, I would like to have a discussion with you in private.”
Kashra looks at me and states, “All right.” Now that I look at it, his confidence, and those overwhelming eyes, should’ve given away that he wasn’t anything ordinary. I cast a spell that copies the contents of the whiteboard to the teachers’ lounge with a note stating that it was created by Atraharsis’ magic, and that I would bring Kashra there.
“Follow me.” I say and leave the classroom, with Kashra following behind me.
