Let me be a mob! - Chapter 80- Reality check?
[Jin’s POV: ]
The Orb to the Root.
As the name suggests this orb which the professor held in her palm can show one’s past since the day they were born without hiding a single essence in between, despite how much the said person wants to implicate alteration.
No illusionary magic works on the orb and that certainly would be the case for spiritual magic as well.
This orb would not probably expose my past life, but the fact that I murdered people and deceived good folks to achieve the book of spirituality would surely create wariness among people around me. There were other things about as well but this road of mine toward spirituality held the most of my concerns.
I could not let her know how I was well informed about the things which were supposed to be tightly sealed amongst the elves. I had no prior interaction with a single elf until I reached Excalius so there would be no evidence that could support my knowledge of the rituals I performed to gain the blessing of the spirits.
“I believe before I do that, I have the right to know what this equipment does, right Professor?”
I have no recollection of whether there were any rules written in the student’s handbook regarding whether a professor could force the student to use or be used by an artifact.
I just applied my previous life logic of the right to refuse some strange activities until one doesn’t get the whole knowledge of it.
The reaction that arrived from Eimi was understandable. It was given she would be shocked by someone who rejected the charismatic and famous Professor Annie like this, more so when I am a male.
Her mere presence feels like I was under the effect of an aphrodisiac spell or something.
Her gesture, her tone, the way she carries herself, the elegance in her posture, and the display of her physical appearance, seems to draw everyone’s attention toward her.
Well, considering her origin it was given she would harbor such properties.
“As I thought…you are a clairvoyant, right? ”
“Huh?” I couldn’t help but react with a strange voice since the assumption Professor Annie landed upon was totally out of the range of my expectations.
She could have requested me, could have tried manipulating the situation, or in the end coerced me to put my hand on that orb…but no.
“Why would the Professor think that this guy is a soothsayer? ” It was Senior Eimi who spoke however the words I intended to say had the same content.
The attention of us four was drawn to the Professor. I now realized that the audience around us has been long sent on their way to the dungeon.
Regardless of how this might affect our end result of exploration, this dilemma Professor Annie has called forth needs to be sorted out or this woman holds a personality to stretch her nonsensical hypothesis to extreme lengths.
However, the blond lady didn’t seem to have any interest in answering any of our queries as she flicked her index finger in front of my face with her right eye closed mischievously, before she spoke her words of farewell, “Not so soon, student. There is still some evidence I would like to collect before we meet again~”

[Fiona’s POV:]
“Hey, Jin…why is that only weird kind of woman (except for me of course) that takes an interest in you.” Once we walked inside the artificially created dungeon for students’ exploration, I could not help but ask him.
“Is it a roundabout way of calling yourself a weirdo?” The redhead senior asked to which I remained silent. No need to answer something that didn’t matter.
“More like interested I felt Professor Annie was suspecting me… ” Jin muttered under his breath. He seemed to be holding some words back and considering how the incident that transpired that night was only limited to some individuals, in which the seniors don’t include, I could understand why Jin didn’t speak clearly on the matter.
“Jin. I was thinking to continue your training. ”
Suddenly the usually quiet President Amanda spoke up with her back still facing us. She acts like it doesn’t bother her how I hold on to Jin but as a woman, I could detect anyone’s negative gaze lingering on us.
I decided to be on alert around this woman.
“Right now? I mean, I don’t have any issue but how could we train while in the middle of this dungeon?”
I have heard from Jin that Senior Amanda was teaching him some kind of technique that would help him get stronger. He didn’t share the full details, nor did I pry considering how easily I could become a nuisance for him.
It wasn’t that Jin has ever shown being annoyed because of my presence but it was just my conscience that doesn’t allow me to become a burden to him.
‘…though…haven’t I been relying on Jin since enrollment… ‘ Self-contradiction was something that has gotten frequent these days.
“You just need to wear these blindfolds and hunt monsters as much as you can. Not relying on your vision but rather your mana perception would help elevate your sensitivity toward magical presence in your surroundings”
My eyes slightly widened at that before I hurriedly interjected, “Wait! Isn’t it too dangerous? This place is unknown to every one of us and to expect Jin to fight monsters with his eyes closed…what kind of absurd training is this?”
It wasn’t that I haven’t heard of or had never gone through this kind of training myself but those were under supervised terms. Enhancing one’s mana observation skills involves similar modules but this was too much.
To ask someone who still was a student in the first year to wear a blindfold and walk blindly on a path that was filled with fatal threats…
Indeed something I needed to intervene.
I was prepared to rebuke whatever Jin had to say as well but shockingly it was Amanda who moved at a pace I wasn’t able to catch before she stood right in front of me. Her cold eyes made me startled but I remained stoic from the outside.
However, what she next said was something I could have never seen coming…
“Not only you are weak, but want to drag Jin along with you as well, huh? I expected something more from the daughter of such a high noble house but in the end, you would only remain a glass doll princess who knows nothing more than to put on makeup and attend parties, right?”
….at that moment, Amanda wasn’t trying to blame me or anything. Rather it wasn’t about Jin at all. And the realization of it would lead to something I could have never imagined of myself.

“Hey, Annie….you know that Jin saved our lives right?” Outside the gate, only the two women could be seen who were on their way toward the city council’s office.
Suddenly Lisa spoke out the words which made the blonde professor raise her brows as she tilted her head and replied, “Is that so?”
Anyone who doesn’t know Annie would think that she was genuinely unaware of the fact that Lisa said just now. But not the violet-haired lady who knows Annie for years now.
“Why does it seem that you don’t trust Jin specifically when there was another student also involved in that incident? ”
Hearing Lisa’s words, Annie stepped forward before she faced her friend and spoke in a curious tone, “Why does it seem that my best friend is interested in that student beyond the relationship of just a regular apprentice? ”
“You know it’s nothing like that. Can’t you answer me straightforwardly?” An irritated Lisa responded, clearly not happy being put in such a frame with Jin. Though Lisa is interested in him, it doesn’t mean her curiosity involves anything romantic.
Annie chuckled slightly before she twirled on her feet and continued walking with her arms crossed behind her back before some words of advice she voiced out for her good friend, “Maintain a distance from that student of yours, Lisa. He’s unique and dangerously knowledgeable which makes me wonder about numerous things…. ”
Lisa knew Jin has piqued Annie’s interest but where this weird relationship of the two would lead was something to wait and see.
