Let me be a mob! - Chapter 72- Anomaly?
Unlike Humans, the Demon Race was classified under different terms and classes. The ladder begins with the weakest and the farthest ends with the strongest.
Fodder grade- Class F to E
Common grade- Class E to D
Soldier grade- Class D to C
Ranked Demon- Class C to B
Demon Nobles- Class B to A
Demon Sovereign – Class S or higher.
The preferred class is specified by the Human ranking system. Though it’s just speculation since sometimes a low-ranking demon can also become overwhelming to a higher-graded defender.
There are in total Seven Sovereign currently present on the other side of the world who rules their respective kingdoms. These monarchs were once the Generals of the Demon King who have been put down by the Legendary Hero of the past.
Now in the absence of their liege the Demon Kingdoms have been distributed and the Generals have declared themselves as the new Emperor of their jurisdiction. However, it was said that all the Seven Sovereigns are still trying to reawaken the Demon Lord.
Coming to the current Seven Strongest Demons then there is one named Illusion Master: Pharoh who is ranked sixth on the ladder of the Monarchs since unlike his peers he’s not well versed in physical abilities and only came to become a Sovereign through his mastery of Illusions.
The specialty of the demon has been clearly stated, that is, playing with minds and making people see what’s not true. He surely has other skills and immense magic reserve as well but everything could be counted as secondary if someone gets on the Demon’s radar.
Pharoh never kills his hunts until he doesn’t break them mentally and makes them beg for death.
He’s a villain to be feared at the beginning of the Fourth volume of the novel and since the plot has only neared the end of the second volume, the appearance of Demon Pharoh was mostly unlikely.
However, now the turn of events tells something else…

[Jin’s Pov:]
I could not be mistaken.
This mist. This seduction to fall into an eternal daze. This presence… it’s the Demon who was destined to arise in the second year and there were still four acts remaining before Pharoh appears.
Yet…why this bastard is here all of a sudden?!
At the end of this year, the discovery of the Headmaster being a user of Dark magic would lead to the abrupt weakening of the Veil which separates the human world from the Demon side and would allow Pharoh to manifest in the academy with a motive to kill Aiden.
Pharoh has many moles around every corner and when the Demon comes to realize that there is someone with more than one light attribute he takes up the challenge to kill the protagonist to gain cookie points and build some reputation. A childish reason but that bastard demon is just like that.
However, at that time Aiden was supposed to be Rank B+ and the other heroines were also around C to B along with some Magic tools and the assistance of a A-rank Teleportation user, Amanda.
But currently, Aiden was ranked fucking D, and no one other than him and I could remain awake in this situation.
The Illusion Pharoh creates, puts a person into a daze like they are watching the most desirable dream but suddenly in their dream Pharoh begins to slaughter everything the person is fond of and at the end, the said person themselves begs to die.
Then only the Demon Sovereign grants them eternal sleep.
There are two ways to fight his illusion.
The first one is to have blessings of more than one goddess which was only possible for Aiden and Elves. The prior carries blessings of all the supreme deities and the latter mostly have connections to more than one spirit. Witches are mostly immune to the Illusions since they have magic artifacts for their protection.
The second route is a Soul Bond which lets you connect with another person in terms of varying reasons. In canon, Aiden made Bonds with the heroines based on different purposes, and because of that, they all were immune to the Demon’s illusion.
But until now Aiden hasn’t formed any bond with any of the heroines and Silvie still has to make her first Spirit connection which signifies that other than I and Aiden, everyone around is now under the spell.
“Jin? What’s been happening?”
Aiden’s cautious voice reached up to me. Everyone around us was frozen and due to the sudden spike of mana, the mana stones and scrolls working as lights and ventilation also ceased operating.
I first calmed myself down. I know the world and know what is to come. If I don’t remain calm then no one would be spared tonight.
“Let’s walk out of this place first.” Aiden seemed reluctant to leave everyone like this but he nodded nevertheless since he must be thinking that the Professor must have arrived by now.
However…
“Why this whole city looks frozen…”Aiden couldn’t help but mutter since those people on the streets were also now ice statues. Aiden ran past me to check on the other building where the professors were staying but I know he would get disappointed.
‘Now how should I break it to him…’
Aiden is a perspective guy. He already has skepticism about me even though I have saved his ass twice by now. However, he has a valid reason to suspect me as well.
I have shown multiple times that I know things which students of our age or heck, even adults shouldn’t know. Like Lisa who failed to break the Barrier during the Representative Selection test.
If I suddenly tell Aiden that I know what’s going on and what to expect from here on, then it was inevitable that he would see me as a Dark Mage or maybe a demon in disguise.
‘Think Jin…think…’ I have to create a believable lie and take care of the people soon after. If the Demon attacked this city meant he would try to keep Aiden engaged until everyone’s nightmare doesn’t come to an end.
In the canon event, Aiden found the demon before he could have finished enjoying himself by bestowing people, with a traumatic nightmare before the protagonist plunged his blade right through the Demon’s heart.
I have to find the demon while protecting the city only after I could convince Aiden to trust me for this.
‘Fuck it… I would play ignorant for the time being…’
“Did you find any professor?”
Aiden paced down from the building as I asked him only to get a shake of his head as she dejectedly spoke, “Everyone is in the same state.”
I massaged my brows for a bit before I muttered in an uncertain tone, “I am afraid that a Demon has been summoned somewhere, and everyone other than us is under the effect of his skill.”
“Then why only the two of us are spared?”
“I am not sure but should we complain about it for now? Let’s first shift all the students from the second building and place them along with the Professors. I have a feeling we might get attacked tonight so it’s better that we have to look out for only a single destination.”
“What about the others? Aren’t we going to protect the citizens?”
I knew this would be coming and I could already sense a massive headache would be hitting when I express my motive.
“There are over four thousand people in this city and we cannot protect them all, Aiden. So let’s just focus on those whom we know and care about, alright?”
If my calculation is right then the beasts from the nearby forests would be attacking the city any minute now and we do not have the strength to cover the whole perimeter.
However, as one could expect from the main character, he could never compromise his sense of duty even if the situation was this fucked up.
“You do what you want, Jin, and I would do what I can.”
See. Shounen protagonist to the core.
