Let me be a mob! - Chapter 71- Cocky Aiden?
[Jin’s POV: ]
‘Damn this headache… ‘ I generally do not prefer taking a nap during the afternoon but due to lack of sleep last night, I surrendered, resulting in this mild headache I was having currently.
The motel the students were provided was wholly booked by the academy so the floors were mostly empty.
It was nighttime and my stomach was rumbling for some food. While casting a pair of birds made out of a spiritual water element I descended toward the ground floor. I mostly grind with my spiritual skills whenever I get the time.
Even in the bathroom.
‘Man…this headache would surely elevate shortly… ‘
Leaving aside the fact that now a prominent merchant a.k Phil’s father would be now after me and also the Crimson Demon who would be visiting the mysterious person who killed The Faceless, I have various other reasons for concern.
There would be an attack on students during their first dungeon. The aggressor would be the assailant sent by one of the prominent academies across the lands which is competing with Excalius in ranking.
When I said that this world was full of cliché, I wasn’t joking.
It doesn’t stop there. The case with the Blood Supremacist is one hell of upcoming trouble as well since every commoner would get targeted at the time when they would make their presence public.
Then there was the scenario with the Headmaster as well and his apprentice who would succeed in the position of a Sage and the beginning of a dark phase would begin.
And the person who would be the center of all of it, the Protagonist, is not taking his role seriously at all. Since I subdued the Illusion Monkey during the expedition and also in this case with Dia where Aiden mainly remained dormant snatched away his chances to become stronger.
The novel works like a game setting where whenever the Protagonist gets stronger, the next villain comes with slightly higher specs so at the end of each battle Aiden could grow conveniently.
But now it’s like the next Villain would be on Level 50 and Aiden is still around ten. Surely, I couldn’t let him die now but thinking back, I feel greatly regretful for not remaining as a mob and interfering with the plot to the point of sidetracking it entirely.
That’s why I have decided that during the attack on students during this trip, I would only help Aiden if his life is on the line. The same goes for the other main characters as well.
Not only Aiden but all the heroines minus Lisa is also slightly less capable than they should have been by now. Well, Fiona is now my responsibility to take care of but knowing her personality she would not like to rely on me every time so it’s better I give her some room to grow.
“Hmm… What’s the commotion about?” There was a specific hall provided for buffet and dining for students to enjoy their evening.
The teachers were staying in the same motel but the block was just opposite this one so no one was here to administer the students.
“It’s Nick. The strongest third year or so what he claims himself to be.” Rena suddenly appeared beside me with a mug of what seemed like ginger fruit beer.
Her forehead was slightly covered in sweat and by mood, she seemed slightly pissed.
“And where’s Fiona and others?”
Since the reason for her anger seems to be related to the center of this gathering, I chose to divert the conversation.
“Fiona seemed a little under the weather so she stayed back. Dia is with her girlfriends over there and Silvie is sleeping soundly in her room.”
Well, there was no surprise for Dia and Silvie. Since the prior was an extroverted social butterfly and the latter was an introverted loner. What made me raise my brows was Fiona.
While she does tend to avoid these kinds of gatherings, to hear she isn’t feeling well when she seemed fine in the afternoon was a little unsettling.
‘Should I visit her room….nah, let’s give her some private space for now…’
Brushing away the thoughts to see Fiona now at this hour, I was about to ask Rena about Aiden’s whereabouts, when suddenly a loud thud resonated from the crowd.
“WOAAAAAHH!”
Curiosity got the better of me as I walked toward the crowd and finally caught a glimpse of what was transpiring.
Arm wrestling.
It seems Rena challenged Nick and lost but just now Aiden beat the senior making Rena frown even more.
Everyone was cheering and chugging their drinks in celebration. Aiden himself was roaring with his hand thrown into the air.
The buffed senior who just lost, grumpily stood up from the table and disappeared into the crowd. Not a great way to start the trip.
“Is anyone there who would like to challenge our new champion? ”
The person who took the command of being the judge asked the crowd like a wannabe anchor of some fight club.
“Think you can beat him?”
I raised my brows upon hearing Rena’s question as she gazed at Aiden’s proud celebration pose.
I contemplated for a bit before responding, “Nah, I-”
“Great then. JIN would compete now!!”
The fuck with this girl?!
I clearly intended to say that I wasn’t that strong yet she just announced me as a contender and now every eye was focused on me with cheers of the next match already howling amongst the crowd.
“Bring it on, Jin! Today I would hand you over your ass! ”
Alright, Aiden was getting a little too cocky there, and since the audience seemed already this eager I don’t think I can walk away now.
Folding my sleeve I walked up to the table where Aiden was grinning ear to ear like he already envisioned his victory.
I was about to sit down when suddenly my eyes widened and the danger alert in my mind began flaring wildly. It felt like something was approaching at a massive pace yet entirely undetectable by others since everyone still seemed normal like ever.
However, as I thought, my hunch wasn’t wrong since soon all the lights in the main hall went off…
…and like that, mayhem befell.
*****
A/N:- Kind of a leisurely chapter but it’s time for the character to show their strong side.
Jin’s interference with the plot surely would make things happen in a way he didn’t foresee.
