Let me be a mob! - Chapter 48- Is he for real?!
The rule of the game stated that the person who would have both emblems at the end of three minutes would be declared the winner. Three minutes would decide who is more cunning and quicker and who could utilize their skills in their best efficient form without triggering penalties.
Most of the audience thought that such a short-duration round would be full of struggle, in which both would try to get their hands on the other’s emblem. The majority of the crowd assumed Jin would get his emblem snatched in the first minute, which indeed happened, and the ashy-haired boy would childishly flail to get it back but given the student council president’s reputation and achievements in the end she would wrap this up in a breeze.
But those who have seen Jin’s might in the recent event had faith that their representative would fight back on equal grounds and they were proven right when the position shifted and Jin snatched Amanda’s emblem under the same minute.
But what transpired after that was a spectacle which no one dared to miss even for a blink. They had their eyes sticking to the arena and varying expressions currently displaying their state of mind. Many cheered and gasped at the astonishing exhibition of strength and agility where not only Amanda but Jin was also having a difficult time keeping both the emblem by his side.
The exceptional use of the teleportation skill assisted the council president to appear at places where Jin expected the least and her fluid movement was enough to throw him off, guard. When she was primarily thrown off ground by Jin she concluded that the boy was good at mana tracing which was why she began working against her nature and used anonymous transitions to catch him by surprise.
It was startling and annoying at times but Jin was holding his ground pretty well as well. He didn’t use his skill much since he was well off utilizing his physical dexterity and the strength in his legs to escape out of her trajectory and invade her teleportation attacks where she suddenly appeared at his blind spots and tried to throw him off the mark.
It was a long fight but both of them are learning equally from each other. Amanda, who had disappointing thoughts for Jin initially soon shifted as she began enjoying this little chase with the boy who always found a way to dodge her attacks but that also provided her with enough information to note into account and add to her next assault.
Jin was also having fun learning new things about teleportation users, at their best and their line of thought. She was not proficient in her skill like Lisa but by no means weak at all. The most praise-worthy part comes from the fact that Amanda knows how to handle her limbs and improvise her attacks to not face utter failure. Slowly yet surely he was learning a lot from her.
“I gotta say…you are not half bad.” Panting slightly with the trickles of sweat dripping down her forehead, Amanda complimented her opponent with a genuine smile. The look of pride comes from the two emblems she had implanted on either side of the chest.
Consecutive usage of her skills while moving her body restlessly had undoubtedly taken a toll on her but not to the point to faze her confidence nor stability. When she primarily walked in this arena she never assumed the battle would take such turns but what mattered was that she was enjoying herself. This guy… is interesting.
“Thirty seconds left!”
The referee announced as the match neared its end providing the audience to walk out of their daze and blink their eye at this small lapse they were provided.
Aiden’s group was mostly anxious with Fiona’s fist clenched in anticipation and nervousness. She has never felt this much worked up in a long time and watching Jin currently in a disadvantageous position with the last remaining seconds, she was on her edge and verge of cheering his name out. She was not like Aiden or Rena and was trained under discipline tutelage but right now she was lamenting her instilled behavior since unlike her friends she could not even cheer for the man she adores.
But it was a matter of the future to be concerned since right now only less than half a minute was left for Jin to acquire both of the emblems and claim this match with the tag of winner beside his name.
‘I guess I have to take them off in the end huh… ‘
Wiping his sweat Jin crouched down, gathering weird looks from his surroundings with Amanda also perplexed at his sudden action. She was about to ask what he was up to before Jin untied something from beneath his uniform pants and pulled it out.
“Fuck…isn’t that…!!”
“Those weight-amplifying artifacts?! Is he for real?”
“Heh~Its gonna be fun now…”
Amanda stared at Jin with her eyes slightly widened and brows elevated in shock since the anklets he untied were the artifacts that were used for assessments and training. Its specialty lies in its weight amplification. Once the wielder gets used to the current weight, the artifact increases its load with time. And to think Jin was wearing them all these times when he was able to move that swiftly?
Her smile broke down as she readied herself in a fighting stance. More so when she heard the huge crack when Jin threw the anklets on the ground, she estimated the current weight the artifact must be possessing to make such a loud sound. She was slightly apprehensive now and didn’t want to take anything recklessly now for at least twenty seconds from here on.
The gymnasium went dead silent. Even the instructors including the referee had their eyes glued to the ring as they anticipated the next few seconds in slight impatience. The atmosphere grew heavy and even the wind seemed to have frozen at this moment.
Amidst such tranquility, only a single voice belonging to the male present in the arena resonated before his figure disappeared in a blur.
“Here I come…”
***SWOOOONN**
Most of the students were unable to track his movement and only the students of the first section and the instructor including the other council members were able to see how fast Jin just moved right now. Their eyes widened in surprise to see the strength he has been hiding until now but the fact of concern remained…was Amanda ready to face him?
‘Heh…again frontal assault? ‘
Despite such thoughts, Amanda currently had positioned herself in a stance where she could evade his attack and hold her ground. She acknowledged that his speed exponentially increased just now and Amanda had a hard time keeping her composure but she was not going to get down with just that.
In mere two blinks, he was right in front of her as Amanda readied herself to tackle Jin with her quick grappling technique but something unexpected happened and Jin’s suddenly changed his trajectory to her left before he ran past her, leaving a dumbfounded Amanda behind.
“Behind you!!”
Someone from the audience shouted, seemingly one of the council members, but what Amanda heard was the word behind before she twirled on her feet to face the incoming Jin who surprisingly was able to turn himself back to her even being in such hypersonic speed.
Again she was prepared to take him down but yet again he ran past her making her annoyed more than confused this time. He was just playing with her!
She turned to her left and saw him fast pacing in her direction but he suddenly vanished before she felt movement from her back. She was growing tensed with his movements and almost untraceable projectiles. She had no idea when he was taking turns or how he was appearing at such anonymous spots.
She was turning to face him every time she felt his approach but it all resulted in moot since the time she rotated herself he was already fading off from the direction and seemed proceeding from a different corner.
Everyone around was gasping at the sight of a trail of blue hue covering the whole arena and the afterimages of Jin who seemed to have clones made out of him as he never seemed still at any point and appeared all around the arena like he was marking his territory and cornering the council president.
‘Shit…his speed is increasing with each step.. ‘
Cursing under her breath Amanda felt herself drowning in anxiety as she thought of teleporting at some point but knowing that Jin was practically covering the whole arena, she didn’t take the risk. What if she runs into his path and gets knocked out? It was a gamble she was not ready to take but trying to dodge his possible attack seemed impossible as well.
Short on choices, what she did was make most of the people drop their jaws as they saw Amanda covering her bosom to shield the emblems before she plopped down and curled up in a completely defensive stance.
If she could not dodge him, she would simply not let him get these badges!
But little did she know that the match has concluded a while ago and right now Jin was just playing around with the girl.
“Times up! The Winner is…”
