Let me be a mob! - Chapter 46- Challenge?
The Excalius Academy comprises many young and raw talents who have the potential to become great warriors in the future who would bring the era of peace which everyone seeks so desperately. Provided with the best assistance and required tools, every student gets the chance to become a figure to which people could look up to.
Among those young ones, there are some elites of elites who through their strength and prowess earn the post of council member. Along with appropriate knowledge of the council work, what someone needs to be part of such a particular group was domineering strength through which one could prove their worth and get themselves a golden emblem of recognition.
The previous statement signifies that those who get selected as Student council members are undoubtedly, strong people who have subdued numerous competitors to get the rank where they were. And the person who stands high among those members—The student council president—must be the mightiest amongst all. It was not a question to be asked but rather implied that if someone holds the might to even compete with the professors then it was the council president.
The Council President—Amanda Peurstine—was the strongest student in the academy and the person who appeared the least among the masses as well. Apart from her council work, Amanda doesn’t attend class much since she had already gained all the knowledge she required to keep herself busy with self-training and hone her skill to a further level to become a full-fledged Warrior.
Her presence was enough to make people conscious of their appearance or how they have been presenting themselves in front of such a prominent figure. Many want to get close to her because of her status in school and also because the shining future awaits the girl. But like a wall of ice surrounding Amanda, no one could ever cross boundaries with the President how much they tried.
There were many professors as well who desires to have a deeper relationship with Amanda to have some favors from her when she would become a tremendous figure in the future. But everything went to naught.
Amanda was as stern as she was during the initial phase of her schooling life and even in her third year, she was barely get seen by the students involving herself in any matter. Even during the invasion, she was resting in the cafeteria, like nothing sort of worth mentioning was transpiring at all.
She indeed was a strange and anonymous person. And to prove her random behavior, she suddenly appeared in the practice arena of the freshmen, and the first thing she did was to challenge the student who recently has become the class representative.
“I, Amanda Peurstine, challenge you, Jin Carter, to a duel.”
Everyone around the gymnasium gasped in astonishment and slight disbelief as well since someone as high-ranking and influential as Amanda challenged a freshman was nothing short of bewildering.
Even the other council members who followed their president, were shocked beyond belief since they could have never guessed someone as lazy as Amanda who only fights when challenged or provoked, would take the initiative to challenge the first-year boy.
Amanda cared none about their reaction as she slid her auburn long hair past her shoulder and focused her crimson eyes none other but just on Jin. Her lean physique was betrayed by her plump chest and bubbly rear but nothing affected the sheer confidence Amanda wears like a shroud, intimidating others just by her mere presence. Standing at an idle height of 5’9, the sharp gaze of the girl never left the first person who caught her attention after so long.
She saw Jin frowning evidently like he was not surprised by her appearance but rather displeased. That irked Amanda but she saved it for later when she would be sparring with him.
“Can I decline?”
“No.”
Amanda’s voice was stern and didn’t leave a single speck of argument when she responded. She came with the motive to assess this student and without doing that Amanda was not going to back down at all.
Many people were murmuring around, mostly snickering at Jin and praying for his well-being. Fiona had a worried look contouring her expression as well but she knew it was not her place to intervene.
“Can I know the reason why this sudden idea of challenging me?”
This time Amanda snickered before replying in an amused tone, “I heard you defeated a C-rank illusion monkey who is known for disabling its enemies and killing them in their worst phase. Since a C-rank monkey requires at least an A-rank, just like me, to subjugate, I want to see the extent of the powers of that man who did such a tremendous job.”
Another round of astonished exclamations resonated in the hall since most of the first year were unaware of the fact that Jin annihilated such a high-ranking monster who tended to block someone’s mana, rendering them powerless before killing their prey most brutally. For someone who was ranked D in the assessment defeating such a monstrosity was indeed a feat to be recognized.
Many didn’t believe such words but it didn’t matter to Amanda since if not for the words she heard about Jin, after meeting him she got certain that this individual was exceptional. The reason was his near-zero mana presence and the way he indifferently acted than those who meet Amanda for the first time.
On the other side, from what the Council President could perceive, Jin seemed more contemplative rather than worked up which he naturally should be. But this attitude of his…intrigued her.
“I do accept the challenge…but without a bet, it would taste too bland, no?”
Amanda raised her brows with her head tilted to the right slightly. A small smile lifted the edges of her lips as she heard such a fantastic idea but an idiot came to interfere in between.
“Drop that arrogance, freshie. What’s there to bet when the reward to even duel with President is already granted to you?”
It was the treasurer of the council, who spoke up while adjusting his slim glasses and glaring at Jin with a gaze that told him to know his place. But it was unaffected to the person in question since he kept his gaze fixated on Amanda.
Amanda really wanted to share some piece of her mind with the idiot Treasurer whose name she has already forgotten, but considering the reputation the Student Council holds, it would not look good if she herself doesn’t show integrity amongst the group.
Raising her hand, Amanda gestured for the bespectacled council member to shut up, before she affirmed Jin’s words with a tone of certainty.
“You choose, what you want if you win the battle. That’s unlikely to come out as a result so don’t put much thought behind it, junior.”
Upon hearing her words, Jin grinned for some reason which gave away some unpleasant vibe but Amanda kept it to herself and heard his following words.
“If I win then, for the rest of the month starting tomorrow…you have to spare an hour of your day for me. If you are away from school then those number of days would be added to a further extent. And also, in that hour….you cannot disagree with whatever request I ask you to do.”
“…”
Amanda was…disappointed. She thought that this mysterious newbie would bring some color to her boring life of hers by asking for something unique and completely unexpected. She thought that finally, someone would keep her entertained and make her look forward to something for the first time in years.
But again…another teenage boy who drools over anything which looks plump and has a hole to explore.
She was indeed quite dissatisfied with Jin’s request and the sigh she released held some essence of exasperation as well. She didn’t concentrate on the surroundings but she was sure most of them were cursing or badmouthing Jin’s indecent choice whatsoever.
But not like his dream is going to be fulfilled so what’s there to contemplate?
“I accept…”
“President?!”
This time more than one council member raised their voice, voicing their concern but Amanda cared about not even a minuscule about them. In her perception only stood a single ashy-haired boy with the utmost self-confidence oozing from nook and cranny. He was too full of himself and Amanda knew what she has to do, to cure such arrogant brats~
“I accept your condition but in return, if you lose, for the rest of the year you will work for me as a…slave.”
