Let me be a mob! - Chapter 44- We are in this with you!
The silence which spread in the room after Jin asked something out of nowhere Aiden, made the atmosphere slightly uncomfortable, erasing all the expressions everyone had and bringing seriousness to their demeanor. Even Silvie tensed at the words much like everyone else.
Aiden looked at Jin with an uncertain look, confusion marring his handsome features and the silence working as a great agent to elevate the tension among the group.
No one said anything between them, since Jin had the question to the most righteous person in the room. It was a given fact that Aiden’s bold decision to save their classmates and not also how he has been considerate to everyone around him, made it clear that the raven-haired was actually a nice human being. And being such, it would be surprising if Aiden go against Jin and report it to the teachers.
In response, Aiden stayed silent for another couple of seconds before he sighed and replied in a defeated tone.
“I know you have killed someone Jin, and the Crimson Demon is searching for you. But the fact that you did in a criminal to save Fiona makes it worth it. So for me, you did nothing wrong.”
Jin somehow expected to hear it but still, it was surprising how Aiden was taking things too casually when hundreds of lives were on the line just because of what Jin did in the past. The same goes for others who didn’t say it verbally but had a certain affirmation with their classmate’s words.
Jin sighed before he leaned back on the comforter with his head tilted up and eyes closed as he pondered what he should be doing from here on. A lot has happened in so less time and even though he put up a composed front, Jin was not entirely calm about this situation either.
Suddenly, bringing him out of his reverie, Jin felt his hand behind taken by someone as a familiar scent approached him before Jin turned to look to his right and found Fiona kneeling beside him with her eyes fogged with nothing but concern.
For a moment he thought his heart skipped there but he brushed it off just as his imagination and heard Fiona’s words which came out in a slightly shaky tone.
“It was me whom you saved so the blame is not something you alone should be burdening yourself with. Whatever happens from here on… I promise I would stay by your side and cross this hurdle together.”
It was like a confession that might have created a blushing mess Fiona but at the moment she only wanted to let Jin know that he was not alone and she would not let him face anything by himself. If not for Fiona getting kidnapped that day, nothing like this must have happened and Jin could have enjoyed his academy life like everyone else.
But Jin didn’t blame her nor did he even boast Fiona how he saved the girl that day. He always has been selfless and never wanted to involve others in his matter to keep them safe. Fiona has yet to meet someone like Jin but whether his modesty or reservation, Fiona was not going to leave him whatever happens from here on.
“By now you should be aware that if Fiona gets involved in anything then as her best friend, I must jump in that as well. So count me in too.”
Dia spoke up without a tinge of hesitation in her voice like standing against the Crimson Demon and one of the most dangerous criminal organizations was something she does every weekend.
“Same goes for me and I guess Silvie and Rena as well, Jin. They were willing to talk to you rather than instantly dashing out and informing the professors, which is in itself a testament that we are all in this with you.”
Aiden’s words earned a nod from both Rena and Silvie, showing their agreement in the matter. Despite being shy and all, Silvie didn’t think more than a blink to take this one of the boldest decisions in her life, and the elven teen was proud of herself because of it.
Jin snatched his gaze away from Fiona and glanced at everyone briefly, with a deep strange emotion swirling inside of him. This…was new. Being supported by the people whom he wanted to avoid primarily and never intended to associate himself with. The people whom Jin thought to be occupied with themselves were now looking at him with varying gazes yet all they had in common was appreciation and concern for him.
He was not used to this feeling since in his past life he barely had any friends and if someone was able to come close to him to the point of understanding him with just his facial expressions, then it was his girlfriend. But now, just on the second day of Academy, Jin was already surrounded by this many remarkable people who were willing to go against such large-scale forces just to defend someone they has met a couple of days ago.
Indeed, this was something new.
“You guys…I feel like I would soon start weeping.”
Jin sighed, earning a small giggle from Rena and a smile from the others. Fiona was relieved to see that Jin was not rejecting their advances.
The group chatted for a bit as Jin brought tea for everyone with Fiona’s help who strangely carries special tea leaves in her spatial storage. Most of the conversation swirled around the situation of the academy and also how many students have already begun contacting their parents to drop out.
“What have you thought about this whole mess, Jin? Are you planning to fight ‘her’?”
Without specifying whom she referred to, everyone knew whom Rena was talking about. The group went silent once again since the topic at hand was something they had been contemplating at the back of their head continuously.
Jin hummed in response for a moment, seemingly pondering what he was asked about. But whatever route he tried to pick, he was not able to come up with a conclusive retort.
“Well, fighting that Demoness would be nothing but breezing to the death door. She is on whole another level and has attained such deeds which I find too hard to believe. Truth be told, I am not certain that even Principal Erwin would be able to defeat her.”
Aiden raised his brows but just like others he didn’t counter Jin’s statement since he himself didn’t know the full extent of Principal’s strength but he definitely had been knowing about the Crimson Demon of the East when Aiden was involved in his adventuring work.
It was horrifying to think how vulnerable they all were when the strongest pillar the students were depending on, could actually fall in battle as well.
The room stayed quiet for a minute and a half as everyone conflicted in their mind to come up with something to face the upcoming catastrophe but it was Silvie who unexpectedly came up with the idea first.
“I-I think I c-can help…”
