Let me be a mob! - Chapter 35- Insanely strong!
Through the dense forest, could be seen two figures rushing their way in mutual direction as their limbs and mind coordination did wonders in keeping their pace in the way, as they hopped from branch to branch.
Unlike the time the groups of students were released for the task to collect flags and decide the representative in such a manner, currently, the jungle was quite silent. Truth be told, the surroundings were now so hushed that it seemed creepy and alarming.
“Do you think, Brad would keep his word and protect the others?”
Fiona asked in doubt since if she could believe someone the least among the group then it was undoubtedly the blonde rascal named Brad. She had expectations from him that if something unexpected arises and puts the group in grave danger, Brad is the kind of guy who would push others in order to ensure his own safety.
And for someone like him to be delegated with the role of keeping people safe was not something Fiona could let happen in normal circumstances. But due to the lack of combatants, Dia and Brad had to stay back to keep an eye on a possible ambush.
They might be not the strongest amongst the likes of Jin and Aiden, but certainly, they were elite students who has been trained for a very long time so they could become self-reliant and shine as a great warrior in the future.
Hearing her question, Jin didn’t have to think before he responded in a serene tone.
“He may be selfish and impulsive at times but I am sure he would throw himself in between any danger to protect the fallen comrades. He is just sort of a haughty prince who thinks of himself as high and mighty but when push comes to shove he seems to be pretty reliable.”
Jin knows everything about Brad and how he would shine in the future once he gets constantly humiliated by Aiden. And considering how Brad reacted when the mob monkeys were about to attack the unconscious classmates back then was a testament to his true and hidden disposition.
It may be a bit problematic if something like Illusion monkey pops out again but other than that, Jin had confidence that Brad and Dia would be able to handle it if they work in coordination. Not to talk about Silvie who can also help in buffing them up if she doesn’t turn into that panicked version in face of danger, that is.
Fiona was rather surprised to hear the confidence in Jin’s voice but she didn’t ask further since she had enough respect for Jin already that she could believe his words. He may or may not be the person she was seeking for a long time, but the fact he saved their classmates and also was going out of his way to search for the possibly dead students was enough deeds he could partake in to gain her admiration. And she was sure the others had the same thought about Jin as well.
“Jin.”
As his name was called, the silvery grey-haired boy halted in his steps which he was about to lunge forward onto the next tree before turning to see Fiona who also landed just beside him.
“Hmmm?”
Fiona was hesitant for a moment there but her concern got better of it as she asked something which was bothering her for a while now.
“You did say you will get us out of here. But…it won’t harm you in the process right?”
Jin might be the strongest among them all and has some ace up his sleeve like the Fenrir he summoned back then. But they were stuck inside an artifact which was named ‘The last Obstacle’. It was said so since this one was the final form of any kind of barrier one could enchant. Only a true master could erect a barrier of this caliber but even blocking spatial connection was not humanly possible either.
If not for the fact that Avalona added all the hero attributes along with the elemental signature as a factor of restriction in the barrier, all those who were able to teleport could have escaped easily. But they were talking about the infamous witch Avalona who alone held the might to challenge all the domain and live with that attitude until one day she didn’t disappear in thin air.
Naturally for Jin to be sure that he could breach the barrier was baffling and unbelievable in any way one could see. But even if he succeeds in creating a hole in the barrier, it was highly likely he would have to use means which could draw him to that state where he landed while fighting the monkey.
Fiona knew that half of the injury was implicated by the monster but his broken bones, especially in his arms were the results of some kind of skill he was using to anger the monkey. So it wouldn’t be too surprising he would try something like that once again to make the impossible, possible.
And indeed seeing his reaction to her words which traveled from astonishment to resignation told her the story. What was regrettable was that he didn’t tell her the truth.
“I won’t get hurt this time so rest assured and let’s get moving already.”
Jin hopped away, shrugging away her question which Fiona was sure, of because he didn’t want to make her worry about him. It was instincts that tingled every time she gazed at Jin but with time she was receiving enough evidence of him being her savior as well.
*****
“Wait…”
After crossing some more distance, Jin suddenly raised his hand to make Fiona stop in her track which she immediately did and spread her observation in the surrounding to understand the reason for Jin’s frown.
Soon she felt some presence lurking forward which consisted of varying mana signatures. Four were weak and four were intense.
Gazing at Jin she saw him gesturing with a hushed signal before he made a hand sign for her to flank from the left. Fiona determinedly nodded before she saw Jin moving in the right direction, surrounding the entities in the center.
She had no problem hiding her presence since it was something she has been trained in since the age of her awakening. Just like a wasp, she jumped from tree to tree without letting a single noise from her movements. She was just like the wind, holding a singular dissimilarity and that was that the girl was physically visible which she could mask because of the dense leaves.
The sight which greeted her upon nearing the scene was rather startling and made the silver-haired maiden’s heart drop in beats.
There were four massive three meters in length wolves packing around the students who were on their knees, pleading with the monsters for mercy. Some of them had visible grave wounds and one of them had lost his arm as well.
There was a girl who was unconscious among them and seemed to need medical attention. What they commonly shared was the powerlessness and desperation to stay alive.
Fiona’s heart clenched at the sight since it was the first time she was seeing someone of her own age being so pitiful and on the verge of death. They were literally begging the mindless beast to let them go even though they knew how futile it was.
Fiona clenched her fist in agitation and was about to land for action despite knowing that Jin might not want her to. But she couldn’t sit idly even for a bit when her classmates were just a push away from death.
However, just as the girl was about to launch herself forward and strike the nearby C-ranking wolf with her gauntlet coated with thunder, something dropped from the sky and landed just on the monster Fiona was aiming for.
***BOOOOOOOOOOOOOM***
The massive explosion reverberated heavily in the surrounding, making the ground tremble along with the nearby trees, creating a deep crater where the thing landed and probably ate the life out of that monster.
Fiona was gobsmacked just like the other humans who stared at the sight which brought a new light of hope into their eyes.
The other three wolves instantly jump to stand side by side as they growled at the place where the dust was yet to settle. Their hesitation to jump immediately at the prey who intruded at their playtime signified the wariness they held against this entity that was able to land such a massive blow.
All of them were waiting for the dust cloud to clear out to see what caused such a huge uproar but Fiona, who was standing on a high point and had enhanced senses, was able to see something darting out of the pit and launching itself toward one of the wolves.
Undoubtedly it was Jin.
All the thoughts Fiona had to help Jin with the monsters extinguished as soon she saw Jin moving daringly toward the creature before he landed a tightly held punch right in between the wolf’s eyes and blasted away its skull swiftly like he squashed a tomato.
Before the other two wolves could move, Jin raised his left hand before he muttered something incomprehensible.
***AWOOOOOO-**
The howl of the monster was canceled out in an instant as an aqua-blue conical missile launched toward the two, before gaping holes through them. It was just within seconds but there were already seven holes in each of the wolves’ bodies all over, from where maroon-red blood gushed out, in the amount which signified the demise of the last of the threats as well.
It all happened in mere seconds and Fiona grasped each moment that transpired closely. After what seemed like an eternity but only a few blinks passed, Fiona finally parted her lips to exclaim in a voice that only she was able to hear.
“He…is insanely strong…can I ever be able to stand by his side….?”
