Let me be a mob! - Chapter 123- To prove his worth~2
Spirits have infinite mana. What limits a Spirit User is the person itself.
The person who gains the ability to communicate with Spirits and use their power can only use it to a certain extent—and that is decided by the proficiency and exposure of the user to spiritual energy.
Jin has been utilizing spiritual energy for the last six months and was granted the favor of the Great Water Spirit less than one month ago.
He can use some B-rank spells without straining himself much but any higher than that takes a lot from Jin.
Not only does his body suffer, but the core of his spirituality—through which he channels the spiritual energy and forms a spell—might get weakened.
It was like one has an ocean as a reserve but a spoon to serve. If one tries to hold a lot in that spoon then the magic might overflow and affect the user in a far worse way than it was supposed to harm the opponent.
These thoughts have always limited Jin from utilizing his full potential. He always thought, pushing himself more than a certain point would be counterproductive. That’s why even in the Dungeon City, after using an S-rank spell, [Ullr] Jin experienced something akin to a heart attack, and for the next few days he was rendered powerless.
The fear of sustaining lifelong damage always prohibited him from unleashing what he could.
However, for the first time in his life, he didn’t care about the consequences. He didn’t want to think about what would happen if he did it. However, he feared what would happen if he didn’t.
His opponent is crazy strong, can regenerate, and is a skilled fighter.
In front of her, Jin could do nothing other than allow himself to be thrown around like a sac.
He needs to counter. Not for his dignity but to prove that he indeed is the best option for the Blood Ritual.
He wants to save his first love. He didn’t want to see Aya in pain anymore. Whatever she had endured was his fault and now, Jin was determined to fix everything.
“Humans can be this stubborn, I realized today. Just how long are you intending to endure?” Merex asked with her brows reaching high and no sign of fatigue shown on her face.
In contrast to her, Jin stood while panting heavily, and his clothes and armor were now rugged and torn from place. His lips were bleeding and so was his ruptured ears. His body has received several bruises and multiple fractures.
With his eyes half-lided he looked at his opponent and drew a sharp breath.
“Fuuuu….” Clenching his fist, he decided.
There was no point in holding back.
He cannot stop himself now—after coming this far.
He needs to do this!
[Spirits! Respond to my call and assist me cross this obstacle! I request your aid in exchange for my loyalty!]
As usual, he chanted and requested support from Spirits—using a language that was undiscernible by others.
However, for the first time, he received a response,
[We shall support our King!]
It was not a voice but a feeling that he heard it. The number of Spirits he could feel around him increased dramatically. It was almost like he was coated by several layers of Spirits.
Jin felt empowered and encouraged.
Gathering strength in his back he straightened his posture and focused on his target.
Jin rummaged through his memories and picked the best spell under these circumstances.
Planting his both hands on the ground, he prayed to the Earth Spirits and chanted an A-rank spell;
[Meteor Fall]
Three large fragments of earth were extracted in an instant and they loomed over Merex in a certain formation, that left her no choice but to escape.
“What?!” However, the moment she decided to move away, she found the blood of her lower body frozen, and her feet were completely encased in ice.
“He can manipulate two different spirits at the same time?!” Merex had a fair amount of knowledge in Spiritual Magic but she had never heard some utilizing two Spiritual-based magic at the same time.
But she judged him too soon.
“[Flame Emblaze!]”
Heeding Jin’s call, Flame spirits coated the three gigantic rocks with fiery red flames—making them look like real meteors.
Jin smirked at Merex’s helpless state before he slashed his hand downwards; commanding the three meteors to fall on the Demon at a furious pace.
**BOOOOOOOOOM**
The earth trembled under the weight of the boulders and the air turned burning hot because of the heat it was radiating. Crater formed around the spot where Merex stood and the demon was caught in the middle of the meteor rush.
However, what happened next was not something he expected.
Mere ten seconds passed before one of the boulders was sliced in half, and the lithe figure of the demon burst out of the crater. Despite her injuries being mostly healed, the agitation in her burning eyes revealed to Jin that he had inflicted significant harm upon her in their previous encounter.
She was faster than before but Jin was prepared for it.
*CLANG*
An ice wall was erected before Jin and deflected her attack.
Merex gritted her teeth before enhancing her strength using demonic energy and punching the wall into shards.
However, the moment the wall was destroyed, she found the previous spot where he stood; empty.
Merex twirled on her feet and swung her curved sword toward her behind before a dull metal clashing sound reverberated across the battlefield.
“Not bad.” Merex complimented the human, who stood there with his hands gripping twin axes, which he didn’t have a moment ago.
‘Summoning…and what’s that absurd presence…’ Those mysterious weapons were making her intrigued to know its origin however Merex kept her curiosity to herself and began empowering Jin.
In a physical confrontation, Jin couldn’t win—and he knew that. That’s why he decided to manipulate Wind Spirits and put pressure on the demon.
“Hoh~” Merex instinctively sensed her body growing heavier, weighed down by the abrupt surge of condensed air pressing against her.
However, it wasn’t enough to stop her from swinging her blade and pushing Jin away.
Jin lost his balance and staggered back, in the fret of having his fingers sliced by those ferocious cuts.
Merex took that moment in her favor and muttered under her breath,
“Body Supremacy: Unfold!”
Jin’s senses rang violently in alert as his widened eyes weren’t able to catch Merex’s figure blurring past him like a gale and leaving a trace of scarlette behind.
He raised his axes to defend himself but it was futile
“Guh!” A deep wound was engraved at the side of his torso, the moment he lost his sight on his opponent.
Merex was like an illusion that ran in a non-uniform pattern around Jin with only a blur visible to him. Her blade was the only thing that interacted with Jin and whenever she passed by, Jin experienced pain in a new region.
Lost in choice, Jin decided to levitate his way out of this maze—only to get the back of his neck suddenly struck with something hard and blunt
“Ughh!” Jin fell to his knees with his axes now dropped on the ground.
Merex finally came to a halt with her blade tip pressed against Jin’s head.
“Do you surrender?” Merex’s expression remained indifferent as ever, as she asked.
Jin was a bloodied mess with several spots on his body actively bleeding and his consciousness nearing blankness.
Merex deemed this battle had concluded and the role of performing the Blood Ritual would fall into her hands. The chance to serve her lady was the peak source of happiness for her. And this human tried to snatch it from her.
“…you never deserved to be with the Queen. She deserves better…”
Merex muttered under her breath. Her frustration finally leaked through her lips and her eyes now burning with agitation.
In response to that, Jin raised his hand weakly and extended his fingers to the sword.
Merex felt even more irritated by the futile attempt to fight back.
She raised her blade, intending to slice his hand away.
*SLING*
However, to her utmost shock, the moment she swung her weapon, almost half of her blade got sliced off instead of Jin’s hand.
“What the….?!” Her blade was made of dragon scales and polished in the Dark Water for several years. It couldn’t break even if it is put against S-rank spells and here….just what in the…
Merex refocused her eyes on Jin—only to find a greater source of shock.
Jin has stood back on his feet. And the only difference Merex could see in him was those eyes.
Featureless. Colorless. And devoid of any emotions.
In that moment, a very old emotion surged from deep within her.
The feeling of death.
