Let me be a mob! - Chapter 108- Surrender?
Every twenty years, the mantle of Sage is transferred from individual to individual. One could not sustain their prime form, forever, that’s why transference seemed the most efficient way of preserving peace.
However, around ten years ago, a mishap transpired.
A sage has to choose their apprentice, train them in the Sage arts, and instill the principles of the world, and once prepared, then only a Sage can comfortably let go of their responsibilities.
Just like every other Sage, the headmaster of Excalius has been training a certain young man for ten years with the motive of handing his duties to the young one.
He was Headmaster Erwin’s only child and the only remaining family member—Killian Eldritch.
However, before the old man could retire from his duties of being a Sage, Killian was gotten into the clutches of darkness and he accepted the enormity, Demons had in their store.
No one knows why Killian took such a radical step when he was about to be honored by such a reputed and well-respected position amongst humanity. However, nothing could have been done once Killian decided to switch sides.
One could be forgiven for their mistake, but the act of sacrificing one’s humanity could neither have an excuse nor any forgiveness.
Not anyone else but Erwin himself purged the evil out of his son, and naturally, killed him with the Holy Light of the Nexus, which only a Sage could utilize.
That day, the natural course of occurrence shifted since the apprentice Erwin nurtured for so long was dead…and naturally, that left him with no other option than to continue his duty.
However, as one says, great powers don’t come free of cost.
And that cost was depriving physical health of the Sages.
Generally, a Sage retires by the time they reach forty at most, however, because of that incident Erwin still holds the title even though he has reached his late fifties…resulting,
“Haah…haah…” With his left knee stuck into the ground, Erwin panted heavily, with his left eye no longer working. His clothes were in tatters and so was his hair. His skin and muscles burnt and some of his bones were failing to respond to his command.
Spell nullification could only work if Erwin reads the magic circle of the aggressor and chants an anti-magic field around him or the target he desires to protect.
Erwin needs to be precise about the frequency of his counter spell or things may go haywire. However, the fact that Madonna was not just targeting him but every student and teacher as well, left him with no other option.
Erwin didn’t have much strength to cast an anti-magic field around everyone and himself, so he chose to protect his employees and students…leaving himself vulnerable.
And because of that,
“Tch~How cool of you old man. Seriously, you good guys could sacrifice yourself any moment of notice just to protect some fodder, no?”
Madonna’s voice which had an evident amount of amusement, made Lisa and Jin realize what the old man had just done since they were the only ones, aware of his skill and how it worked.
“Headmaster…”Lisa wasn’t able to utter a single word properly. Erwin had been like a mentor to her and a figure in her life whom she had never seen weakening even for a moment. But right now…
Like an overwhelming wave washed over the people standing behind Erwin, everyone began to drop to their knees and the will to fight entirely vanished from their eyes.
However, it wasn’t the same for Aiden as he wielded his blade and charged forward. He needed to secure the Headmaster so he could recover and continue battling. And for Aiden to accomplish such a far-fetched goal, only a single person entered his vision.
“Jin!”
“March forward, I will back you.” Jin didn’t need to hear it to understand the reason for Aiden’s sudden enthusiasm. He chanted several long spikes made of ice and fortified them with the blessings of the wind spirit.
The spikes rotated at a high velocity in the air as he saw Aiden leaping through the air using Levitation and his body augmented with the energy bestowed by the sun.
Willingly utilizing the two attributes of a Hero, Aiden struck his blade down, aiming for Madonna’s exposed head, however,
*TING*
Excalibur was a legendary weapon, and to counter such a heavy metal one would at the very least need a weapon of their own, yet, for this Crimson Demon, only her fingers were enough.
“Fuck!” Aiden cursed as he found himself locked in the position since Madonna had pinched the blade with her index finger and thumb, with such force that rendered any resistance, useless.
“How sneaky~” Not only that, she even sensed the incoming ice spikes from behind and erected a flame wall to evaporate the ice in an instant.
“Too bad for you, boy, I know every possible trick you can come up with.” Madonna’s voice was responded with utter silence, but it didn’t affect the woman as she continued,
“And when I say everything, then I also mean those S-rank destructive spells like ‘Cocytus’ you possess. Shame, you cannot perform it here.”
Jin’s breath stuck in his throat upon realizing how deeply she knew about him and the spiritual magic. While it was true that Spirit magic was renowned, the specific spells shouldn’t have been so publicized
The fact that Jin couldn’t use his strongest spell which could turn even solidify thin air particles, allowed Madonna to not even care about Jin’s existence when she decided to challenge them.
After all, Jin would not even consider using such a devastating spell when he have so many people on his side.
‘She outdid us…not physically but mentally as well…’ There was nothing Jin could do other than clench his jaw and lament over his limited power.
“Now then…” Lisa gasped but before she could move even a bit, Madonna already had lifted Erwin out of the ground while clutching his throat with her free hand.
Erwin didn’t struggle since he knew his time had come. In the end, he was nothing but a delusional fool who limited his vision because of his fondness for his child.
And now…everyone has to pay the price for it.
Just as Erwin closed his eyes, expecting to meet his end, someone called out,
“Stop! I will come with you, so don’t do anything to him.” Since Madonna was here to get him, Jin had no other option than to surrender or numerous lives would plummet under her feet today.
Dropping his daggers, he raised his hand and showed his willingness to follow her. From the beginning, he knew, there was no chance of him beating this monster.
Madonna smiled madly at Jin’s decision before she pushed Aiden meters away and swatted Erwin toward the ground.
‘Ah…she would be so delighted by my performance…’ Madonna couldn’t help shivering in excitement at the thought of what reward she might receive once she handed Jin over.
