Chapter 6: Secretary Appointment Ceremony
A few days have passed since I officially became a member of the Izumi family.
My condition is improving, and I’m gradually able to move my body more. My family has been visiting me almost every day. They tell me not to push myself, but I’m really happy that they want to see me.
“Okay, open wide~”
Right now, I’m in the middle of eating. My dominant hand is in a cast, and my left hand still can’t move precisely, so Nakano-san is feeding me. Before, it was just mushy food, but today, I’m getting something with a bit more form, and it’s actually pretty tasty.
I’m starting to feel a bit embarrassed being fed by Nakano-san, but at least the food is palatable now.
“Thank you for the meal.”
“You’re welcome! Thank you for eating everything—it really helps.”
Honestly, the food until yesterday was tough to stomach, but starting today, it’s much more manageable.
The people in this hospital praise me for every little thing, which makes me feel happy but also a bit like a kid. Of course, compared to the nurses, I am a kid.
Come to think of it, I haven’t seen a single male nurse or doctor up to now. I’ll ask the doctor about it during my next check-up.
As I was resting after the meal, Dr. Kudo and Mom entered the room.
Huh? It’s not visiting hours yet, is it…?
“Takuya-san, is everything okay with your body? You started a new diet today—any issues?”
“Yes, I’m fine so far.”
“That’s good to hear. It helps that you’re eating properly.”
“You’re doing great eating everything, Taku-chan.”
Now even Dr. Kudo and Mom are praising me. Getting complimented by beautiful women feels really nice.
But that’s not important—I need to ask about something that’s been on my mind.
“Doctor, are there no male staff in this hospital?”
“Male staff? We have a few male doctors who work part-time occasionally… Is there something you’re uncomfortable discussing with me?”
When I asked about male staff, Dr. Kudo looked a bit sad, as if she thought I was implying she wasn’t capable enough.
“Ah! No, that’s not it… I just noticed I haven’t seen any…”
“I see… That’s actually something I wanted to discuss with your mother. Let’s get to the main topic.”
Relieved by my clarification, Dr. Kudo moved on after finishing the check-up and left.
But what could this be about that requires Mom to be here?
“Takuya-san, do you know what the current global gender ratio is?”
“Uh… maybe a few more women than men?”
Dr. Kudo shook her head at my answer.
“The current global gender ratio is 1:200. That’s why you haven’t seen male staff. Takuya-san, you are a rare male-sama, one in 200, in this world.”
1:200?! With a ratio like that, it makes sense I haven’t seen male staff…
And calling me a “male-sama” makes it sound like just being alive is some great achievement.
“From the nurses’ reports, I heard you’re missing a lot of this world’s common knowledge, but I didn’t realize it was to this extent.”
I didn’t expect this kind of world either… I thought a parallel world would be mostly the same, but to have such a pitfall…
“I’ve compiled the information you seem to be missing in this document. Please read it when you have time.”
“Taku-chan, you have to read it properly, okay? Mom’s really worried… If you don’t know these things, I can’t let you out even when you’re healthy.”
“Yeah, I got it, Mom.”
Even without being told, I’m already panicking knowing the common sense here is so different. I’ll read every word. Thanks for the thoughtfulness, Dr. Kudo.
“One more thing: we’ll need to conduct a semen test for you soon.”
Semen test? Not a blood test?
“Taku-chan, you probably don’t know, but men have a duty to produce as many children as possible. That’s why we need to test your semen to check for any abnormalities.”
I see. With a 1:200 ratio, a single man would need to have children with many women to prevent humanity’s extinction…
“It was originally scheduled to be done at a specialized facility, but given your condition, we’ll do it here at the hospital. Fortunately, we have the necessary equipment, so don’t worry.”
I’ve heard about freezing semen in my past life, so it’s probably something like that, right?
“And I’d like to introduce the person who’ll assist with the semen collection. Come in~”
Mom called someone into the room.
The person who entered had sharp eyes framed by glasses, navy-blue hair tied up, and an air of competence, like a high-ranking official.
“Nice to meet you, Takuya Izumi-sama. My name is Ichijo Reina, and as of today, I’ve been appointed as your secretary.”
She gave a precise bow and handed me a business card. The card had the unfamiliar name “Ministry of Male Protection” printed on it.
“Um… what’s a secretary? And what’s the Ministry of Male Protection?”
I figured I should ask about anything I don’t understand right away. If it’s critical common sense like the gender ratio, I need to know.
“Of course. The Ministry of Male Protection, as the name suggests, is an organization that ensures men’s safety and supports them in producing many children by guaranteeing their livelihoods. A secretary is a personnel assigned exclusively to a specific man by the Ministry, or ‘Men’s Ministry’ for short.”
Ichijo-san answered my probably basic question without a hint of annoyance.
“The main duties of a secretary include selecting bodyguards or maids, assisting with semen extraction, and supporting marriage, among other aspects of a man’s life.”
So basically, every man gets their own personal secretary. Talk about being pampered.
Ichijo-san patiently answered my endless questions one by one. But another unfamiliar term popped up.
I should take advantage of her kindness and ask as many questions as I can.
