Chapter 60: Breakfast for Three: A Gentle Resolve
And so, we quickly got ready. In a spacious room, the three of us sat down for breakfast.
“Not many servants around, huh?”
“Yes. This isn’t a particularly large mansion, and I rarely leave the house, so…”
“Hmm…?”
I don’t quite get how staying home relates to having few servants… Maybe she means as long as someone cleans and cooks, she doesn’t need more?
Breakfast was simple—just salad and soup. Filmeria isn’t a knight and doesn’t move around much like Erinabel, so the portions were small.
Or maybe they just couldn’t whip up a full meal for three on short notice.
Erinabel seemed to have eaten already but sipped the soup heartily.
“About Alkrom—he’s been spotted leaving the capital.”
“Really?”
“Yes. One of the Twelve Radiant Generals used far-seeing magic from the castle and saw Alkrom leaving the capital with a few others.”
Far-seeing magic… Sounds like a magical telescope. Pretty handy…
“Good. Then Filmeria shouldn’t be targeted anymore.”
“I hope so. But just in case, I’ll look after Filmeria from now on.”
“Eh…?”
“E-Erinabel-sama!?”
Erinabel… looking after Filmeria…?
I was puzzling over what she meant when Erinabel fixed me with a serious look.
“Since you made a move on Filmeria… you’re serious about her, right? Not just playing around…?”
“Y-Yeah… Like with you, Erinabel, I love both of you like crazy.”
What a scummy thing to say…! I could never say that in Japan…! Thank god this is another world…!
“This incident made it clear. Touya… you’re almost certainly the hero from the prophecy.”
“Huh?”
“…! Erinabel-sama…! That’s…!”
Prophecy…? Like some Nostradamus stuff…?
But this is a world with magic. Prophecies might not be something to scoff at. There could be some mystical element involved.
“What’s this prophecy?”
Filmeria answered my question.
“A thousand years ago, when the empire was founded, the first emperor was originally a royal from a small kingdom, it’s said. But one day, to dominate the warring continent, he performed a hero-summoning ritual…”
“Heard a bit about that from Erinabel before.”
Filmeria elaborated further.
The first emperor fought across battlefields with the summoned hero. Eventually, he gathered twelve generals, with the hero as their leader—the origin of the Twelve Radiant Generals.
“No records remain of how the hero-summoning was done.”
“Well, it was a thousand years ago…”
“Yes. But it’s certain he commanded twelve generals. One of them was the ancestor of the Fimirun family.”
So Filmeria’s a descendant of one of the original Twelve Radiant Generals. A thousand-year lineage—quite the noble house.
“It’s said our ancestor had special powers, one of which was future foresight.”
“Whoa…! That’s…!”
“N-No, it’s quite different from my prophetic dreams. My visions are very limited…”
Still, her family’s had some special power since way back. So fantasy…!
“It’s said our ancestor had especially strong magical power among Fimirun heads. They left behind a prophecy book for the future.”
“Could that be…?”
“Yes. The prophecy Erinabel-sama mentioned.”
A prophetic Filmeria, whose ancestor left a prophecy book… Huh…
Seeing a thousand years into the future? Hard for a modern guy like me to buy into.
Erinabel downed the rest of her soup.
“The prophecy book is said to be lost, and I’ve never seen it myself. But fragments of its contents have been passed down.”
“Sounds kinda sketchy all of a sudden.”
“Can’t be helped. One fragment says: ‘A thousand years later, when two moons clash, a hero will appear again.’”
The moon is a symbol of the Kainzbern Empire, even on its flag. The clash of two moons likely refers to the current sibling rivalry.
“There’ve been civil wars in the past thousand years, but none as massive as this one.”
“So this civil war’s unprecedentedly huge. Makes sense with two royals directly fighting… Wait, hold on. How does that make me the hero in the prophecy?”
As I listened, a thought hit me. Obviously, it’s Cui.
Cui’s a guide for heroes, meant to grant their contractor heroic power. I’ve experienced firsthand how incredible that is.
I mean, I’m just a guy whose athletic peak was high school clubs, never even fought properly, yet I can take on demons in hand-to-hand combat.
I can stay calm even with a sword pointed at me—mental strength I never had.
That’s not something a normal guy raised in modern Japan could do.
(Cui was meant to create a new hero—contractor—in this world. But due to twists and turns… or rather, Cui’s own screw-ups, they got banished to Earth…)
So I ended up contracting with Cui, freely hopping between Earth and this world, enjoying a fantasy sex life with ero-skills.
(So… the hero in the prophecy… is it really me!?)
No way, right? I’m just here to chill and enjoy another world! I’m not trying to get tangled in political messes!
Ignoring my inner panic, Erinabel-chan keeps talking.
“Touya, you overturned Filmeria’s prophecies, which have never been wrong before. Twice.”
“T-Twice…!?”
“Yes. I heard yesterday—Filmeria dreamt she’d be killed by Alkrom.”
“What!?”
Seriously!? Filmeria saw her own death in a dream…!?
She nods slowly, confirming.
“Yes… I was supposed to be cut down by Alkrom’s blade. But Touya-sama’s intervention changed that…”
“S-So that’s how it was… Man, glad I saved you! Losing your silver hair and heterochromatic cuteness would’ve been a tragedy for this world…!”
“N-No way…”
And those huge boobs! Following Erinabel, missing out on a beauty like her in my otherworld life would’ve been such a waste…!
“In my prophetic dream, Erinabel-sama was also bisected by Alkrom.”
“W-What!?”
Erinabel’s eyes widen—she’s hearing this for the first time.
“What’s that supposed to mean!?”
“Um… I’m sorry…! When Erinabel-sama and Amberta-sama visited before, I said an imperial knight would fall to Alkrom’s blade… That knight was Erinabel-sama…!”
“…!!”
Seems Erinabel was in mortal danger without knowing it.
“So… I’m alive now because… Touya threw that stone at Alkrom back then…?”
“Most likely…”
“Yeah, I mean, I’ve banged Erinabel, so I really didn’t want her to die!”
So that’s it… She was in real danger back then. Good thing I threw that stone…!
“I’m sorry, Erinabel-sama…”
“…It’s fine. It’s in the past, and I’m alive now… But this proves Touya changed both my and Filmeria’s futures.”
“I guess… that’s how it works…”
I don’t feel it myself, though.
“No one’s ever changed a future before, and you did it so easily. Plus, like the hero from a thousand years ago, you’re from another world. It’s basically confirmed…!”
“…! T-Touya-sama is from another world…!?”
“Yes. He travels between his world and ours. While here, I’ve given him the status of my retainer.”
Got it…! So based on my actions and similarities to the hero from a thousand years ago, she thinks I’m the prophesied hero…!
And she’s probably right…! Isn’t she?
I glance at Cui for confirmation. She nods deftly.
‘I’ve said before: the worlds where beings like me from the Hero True Realm are sent are predetermined—worlds that need a hero. I was meant to create a new hero, a contractor, in this world. So Filmeria’s ancestor somehow knew when I’d intervene here.’
So I am the prophesied hero! No way, seriously!? I’m just a guy who wants to enjoy a carefree otherworld life…!
(…No. I did think about losing my job in Japan and maybe shifting my life here. Finding a wife, having kids… that could be a way to live. But…)
If I’m serious about settling here, I need to decide how to live and who I want to be. Plus…
(I genuinely like both Erinabel and Filmeria. If I could marry them both here, I’d be happy. But they have their own circumstances, and if I’m serious about that path, I…)
I can’t stay as I am. In Japan, there’s Kurumi, and thanks to Minato, I’ve got a job at Tényō Development.
I’m on the verge of restarting a proper adult life after being jobless. Do I just abandon that…?
A sudden, indescribable frustration sticks to my mind. But Erinabel keeps talking, unfazed.
“Touya, you’ll become a hero someday. Filmeria and I are… w-well, close to you! You’d worry if something happened to Filmeria while you’re in your world, right…? So, as the Fifth Seat of the Twelve Radiant Generals, I’m saying I’ll look after her.”
So Erinabel’s offer to care for Filmeria is partly for my sake. What a sweet girl…!
Her words spark a gentle resolve in me.
(I decided to embrace Cui’s ero-skills, so I need to take responsibility for my choices… I’m an adult, after all…)
I won’t abandon my life in Japan. Not yet… I just got a job and a girlfriend in Kurumi. Dropping that now would leave regrets.
I don’t know how far I can go, but… I’ll fulfill my role as Cui’s contractor while living in both worlds. That’s probably…
(The only way to marry Erinabel and Filmeria while enjoying a fantasy sex life! After a life of repression in a stifling society… I’m gonna greedily grab everything I want from here on out…!)
I’m probably a half-assed guy. I can’t just treat this world as a playground, yet I’m diving in with both feet.
But I also can’t fully abandon Japan.
So…! I’ll take everything I want in both worlds, living as I please…!
Half-assed? Fine by me! I’m too old to change who I am… I’ll charge forward as myself…!
And so, I quietly—not firmly, but gently—solidified my resolve to live across two worlds.
