Chapter 5: The Otherworldly City, Imperial Capital Kainzberk
“Whoa…!?”
As the light faded, I’d be in another world…! Maybe there’d be a blonde elf beauty waiting for me! Or perhaps I’d make a grand entrance at a summoning ritual for an otherworldly hero, led by a gorgeous, busty princess…!
…Alright, I’ll confess. When I heard I was going to another world, this is what I was thinking. Oh, you bet I was!
I mean, come on! It’s a world that Cui, with its Erotic Skills, is taking me to! A world that needs a hero! Of course, my right arm and left eye are tingling like they did back in my chuunibyou days!
But! What the hell is this situation!?
“I’m gonna die! I’m gonna diiiiie!!”
‘Hmm… I didn’t expect to transfer this high up in the sky…’
“Don’t just say that calmly, do something!!”
As the light faded, I was floating in the air. Now, I’m plummeting to the ground, obeying the absolute law of gravity…!
Seriously, you didn’t even know where we’d end up!? What if we’d appeared in the middle of the ocean!?
“C-Cui! Hurry, get us back home!”
‘Mmm…’
Cui was still clinging to my head. An ominous voice came from above.
‘It seems that with my current state, a single transfer consumes a fair amount of power. If you sleep with a convenient woman, I could regain enough strength to return to your world right away…’
“What!?”
Oh, come on, are you kidding me!? So I’m just supposed to keep falling like this!?
“What do I dooo!?”
‘Calm down. At the moment of impact, I’ll do something cool to cushion it. You won’t die, at least.’
“For real!?”
I’ve never even done bungee jumping! This floating sensation is freaking me out! And what’s with “something cool”!? Will that actually keep me alive!?
Despite my terror, I force myself to look at the ground. I spot some figures below.
“What!? C-Cui!? T-Those…!”
‘I see them. It looks like they’re fighting a magical beast.’
“Magical beast!?”
What the hell is that!? But looking closer, it really was a mysterious creature fitting the name “magical beast.”
It was like a crocodile with a weirdly bloated belly. Maybe the size of a rhino…? Definitely not something you’d see on Earth.
Five people armed with swords and spears surrounded it. Wait a second…
“Tch…! I’m not gonna land on that beast, am I!?”
‘Don’t fall.’
“This is bad!”
‘It’s fine. This is perfect—we’ll land right on the beast. For a split second, I’ll harden your body.’
“What!?”
And then, before I could prepare myself, I crashed right onto the magical beast.
“Kyaa!?”
“What’s that!?”
But my body felt no impact. Instead…
“This… this is…!”
I was standing on the beast with both feet. No pain at all. It seems Cui’s ability… worked perfectly?
“I… I’m… I’m saved…”
“You… who are you…?”
“Huh?”
I glanced around and saw the five armed people from above staring at me. One was a woman, the others men.
‘Perfect timing. Let’s ask these people some questions.’
“Huh…”
‘Oh, and my voice can only be heard by you, Touya. I’ll help with the conversation to some extent.’
“Are you really not injured?”
“Uh… yeah, I’m fine…”
With Cui’s support, I was talking to the group’s leader, a woman named Aria. She had striking red hair, and even at a glance, you could tell she had an impressively curvy backside.
Man, that red hair is wild. It’s natural… right? The others don’t have black hair either… Am I really in another world…?
“Thanks to you, we’re saved. Against that magical beast, even if we took it down, we’d likely have had injuries.”
Apparently, this world is plagued by harmful creatures called magical beasts. Aria’s job involves hunting them.
“But where did you come from? It looked like you fell from the sky…”
“Uh… haha, well…”
I did fall from the sky! My heart’s still pounding!
Struggling to respond, Cui bailed me out. I repeated its words.
“I was actually conducting a special experiment with magic…”
…Huh? A magic… experiment…?
What am I even saying…? Before my confusion could settle, Aria’s eyes widened in shock.
“No way…! So you’re a mage…! You don’t seem physically trained, so I wondered if you might be…”
“…Huh?”
A m-mage…? My brain couldn’t keep up, but Cui’s voice reached me.
‘In your world, I didn’t detect much magic, but many worlds are rich with it. This one has plenty, so I figured there’d be mages—and I was right.’
…So, this is a legit fantasy otherworld…!
Come to think of it, Cui called my smartphone a magical tool…! For Cui, fantasy worlds like this must be the norm.
“I’ve been holed up in a workshop for a long time, so I don’t know much about the outside or where this is. I’d appreciate it if you could fill me in…”
“Of course, no problem. We’re heading back to the Imperial Capital Kainzberk now. I can guide you if you’d like.”
“…Sure.”
Aria’s subordinates started carving up the magical beast and loading it onto a wagon. …Are they gonna eat it? It’s gonna stink in a few hours, though.
I hopped onto the wagon, and Aria filled me in on the way.
“The Kainzbern Empire…”
“Yes. It’s the largest nation on the continent, and the Imperial Capital Kainzberk is its most populous city. …You’re not from the capital, Touya-san?”
“Uh!?”
Nope! But saying I’m from Earth would never fly… I hesitated, but Cui helped me out again. I continued as instructed.
“I-I do live in the capital…! But, uh, maybe due to the experiment’s aftereffects, my memory’s a bit fuzzy…”
“That’s rough. But magic users are rare… With so many people in the capital, I’m sure you’ll find someone who knows you soon!”
Aria, thinking I’d really forgotten a lot, explained tons—about the empire, magical beasts, and mages.
By the time we finished the basics, we were nearing our destination.
“That’s…”
“Yes. The Imperial Capital Kainzberk.”
“Amazing…! I can see a castle…!”
Ahead was a massive city surrounded by walls. It’s huge…! Looking closely, there’s even a town outside the walls…!
And there’s a ridiculously big castle. Even from this distance, it’s massive. Up close, it’d probably make me question their architectural tech.
“…Seeing the capital doesn’t jog any memories? It’s the biggest city on the continent.”
“Uh…! It feels… like my first time seeing it…!”
I mean, it is my first time in this world’s city…!
We passed through the outer town and approached the gate. The main road was as wide as a ten-lane highway. Naturally, the gate was huge too.
Seriously, how did they build this with their tech level? Magic? It’s gotta be magic!
“Can an outsider like me even get in?”
“Yes, no issue there. The capital gets merchants from all over. Restricting everyone would be impossible. Though, you can’t enter the noble district, of course.”
Apparently, there’s another walled-off area inside the city for nobles.
The wagon passed through the gate, and I finally entered the capital.
“Whoa…!”
As the continent’s largest city, it was bustling with people inside the walls.
What a vibe…! It’s different from Tokyo’s energy…!
“Welcome to the Imperial Capital Kainzberk, Touya-san! I’ll show you places where you can get day labor jobs or find an inn. With so many people here, you’ll surely meet someone who knows you.”
Aria, being a kind woman, even gave me some money. She said they’d make plenty selling the magical beast, and since I took it down, I deserved a share.
And so, my adventure in the otherworld Reival truly began.
