Chapter 5 – Where Will the Broken Flag Go?
It was Monday morning the next week.
As I was thinking about what to do about Akari when I headed to class, I saw her fidgeting in front of my class.
She probably has something to discuss with the protagonist. Thinking that, I tried to ignore her, but…
“Um… Excuse me!”
For some reason, she called out to me.
“…What?”
“Um… I wanted to talk to you about…what happened the other day…”
Akari was scared of me, but she spoke to me as best she could. Even though I had helped her, I still look too scary. I could understand why she’s scared.
“T-thank you!”
Akari bowed her head vigorously, trembling. Since she was doing it in the middle of the hallway, the surrounding students were wondering what was going on.
“Tch… Let’s move somewhere else.”
“…Y-yes.”
It would be troublesome if we talked about that day here, so I decided to move to a place as inconspicuous as possible.
“…Here should be fine.”
I brought Akari to the rooftop of this school, which is where Reo would slack off in the game. Thanks to Reo’s notorious reputation, no one dares to go near him. It’s the perfect place for secret talks.
“So… has anything happened since then?”
“No, that senior didn’t come to practice on the weekends… and the other club members haven’t said anything in particular…”
“…I see, that’s good.”
It was one of the things I was worried about. I thought there might be some kind of coercive force at work, but it seems that’s not the case. In other words, the more I destroy the doom flags, the happier the heroines will become.
“…Umm, senpai, can I ask you something?”
“Go ahead.”
“Senpai… Why were you there?”
That question is a bit problematic to answer. There’s no way she’d believe me if I said I was relying on memories from my past life.
“…I’ve always been curious about the track and field club. That’s why I wanted to take a look. I thought I’d just pop into the club room.”
Yeah. This is a good lie for an impromptu one. It sounds plausible.
“Then I heard talking, and the rest is as you know.”
“I see… So, um, senpai…heard what we were… talking about, right?”
“…That’s right.”
Akari was silent in response to my reply. Akari’s goal was to confirm this fact.
“Please. I’ll do anything. Just please don’t tell Kaede-senpai…”
And so, in order to prevent this fact from being made public, she mustered up the courage to come and bow to me.
Even though I was supposed to have helped her, she’s now so scared of me… It does sting a bit.
“Do I look like the kind of guy who would do something bad?”
“…No… you don’t…”
Then don’t be so scared! It makes it seem like I’m forcing you to say it!!
“Then trust me. I know that’s not easy, though.”
“B-but…”
From Akari’s perspective, this is definitely a scary situation. She was suddenly saved by such a delinquent looking guy, and he doesn’t want anything… I’d better ask her for some kind of reward here.
“Then how about we exchange contact information?”
“Ehh…?”
“I helped you, after all. Isn’t exchanging contact information fair?”
“Um…”
“…If any men bother you again, contact me right away. I’ll come running.”
“…Y-yes!”
Perhaps considering that exchanging contact details was a small price to pay, Akari happily agreed. Also, having my name in her contacts could serve as a useful deterrent. It’s a good way to show off that she knows “Ibuse Reo.”
“…Thank you very much.”
Akari looked carefully at her smartphone and muttered. Although she says she’s not girlish, Akari is a fine girl. Her face, now relieved of anxiety, is so cute that I can’t help but want to pat her head.
“Have you deleted the social media account yet?”
“Yes, I have.”
“Don’t do that again. You’re already girly and cute enough even without doing weird stuff like that.”
“C-cute…?!”
Akari started to get very flustered when I said she was cute. Her face turned bright red, making her even cuter.
“By the way, you’re into Miyano from my class, right?”
“N-no!? Someone like me…?”
“Stop with the ‘someone like me’ nonsense. Have some confidence. You’re plenty cute. If you approach Miyano directly, he’ll fall for you in no time.”
“R-really…?”
“Yeah. There’s no guy who wouldn’t be interested in being hit on by a girl like you.”
“Is that… really true…?”
What Akari lacks is confidence as a girl.
If I keep praising her and boosting her confidence, she’ll probably never do anything foolish like that again.
“Ehehe~… Then, does that mean… even someone like Senpai…?”
“…That’s exactly what I’m saying, right? Miyano is just an ordinary guy.”
“T-that’s not what I meant!”
Akari shouted, running over to me. I was surprised to see her frantically looking up at my face.
“S-so, um… Well, what I want to say is——”
“Akari!! Are you okay!!!?”
Just as Akari was about to say something, the door to the rooftop opened, and the out-of-breath protagonist Miyano Kaede appeared.
“E-ehh?? Why… is Senpai here…”
“When I went to the classroom earlier… they told me you’d gone somewhere with Ibuse… and so, I…”
I see. It seems Miyano Kaede had been running around worried that something might happen to Akari. How very typical of the protagonist to make such a cool move.
“So… Akari… Did he…do something to you!?”
“N-no, he did nothing…”
“Looks like someone’s come to pick you up. I’ll go back to class first, so don’t be late, you two.”
I quickly left the rooftop, switching places with Miyano Kaede. His glare at me was uncomfortable this whole time. Well, he just glared at me and didn’t do anything.
All that’s left now is for Akari to follow my advice and make her move on the protagonist… and that’s one down, right? Miyano’s such a lucky bastard, I’m jealous.
I’ve deleted the photos that male senior had, and Akari deleted her own account. Akari now has the perfect tool for block off threats, and that’s Ibuse Reo’s contact information.
With that, Akari should be fine.
There’s still some time before the next heroine’s event. This time, I’ll try to do my best to prevent any incidents from happening.
You break a flag, you take it. Now, how long will it take to collect all broken flags?
