Chapter 43 – Summer Ends With the Start of a New Event
Wednesday, August 21st, early morning.
Today was the day for my date with Akari. Until the day before yesterday, we had planned a normal date, but Akari insisted on changing the plan.
So, I rode my bicycle to a certain park that Akari had specified.
“Ah, good morning.”
Though it was still a little while before the meeting time, Akari had already arrived and started warming up.
“Good morning. I did come in workout clothes just in case… but you’re not actually going to make me run, right?”
The park is quite large, with paths built around a large pond. Even though it was early in the morning, there were already several people running. It clearly didn’t have the atmosphere of a date spot.
“Actually, yes. Today, I’m going to make Senpai keep up with me no matter what.”
“…Well, if you say so.”
I did some warm-up exercises with the energetic Akari in the morning, and decided to follow her and start running while it was still cool.
“…Surprisingly…you can keep up…”
“Well…as expected…”
Akari started off at a slow pace, but gradually increased her speed. I tried to act tough, but honestly, it was all I could do to keep up.
“Then I’ll speed up a bit more…”
“Seriously?”
Akari accelerated even more, leaving me behind as I struggled and showed off the skills of the track and field club’s next ace.
“Hah… hah… oh…”
“Why did you push yourself so hard?”
“It was… my pride as a man…”
“If you get tired from that, there’s no point in doing it then, right, Senpai?”
After running about 30% of the course, my stamina reached its limit, so we decided to rest in the shade nearby. The course was apparently about 4km long… This is bad, I can’t think straight.
“Here you go.”
“Thanks…”
Akari handed me the sports drink she’d brought, and I took a sip, feeling guilty. After drinking some, I handed it back to Akari and she put it to her mouth, saying, “Me too.”
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing…”
As I watched Akari naturally sharing an indirect kiss with the sports drink, she looked at me with a puzzled expression.
“Oh, could it be… Senpai’s embarrassed about the indirect kiss?”
“…Definitely not.”
“Ah, I was right, you’re embarrassed~”
“…That’s enough. Let’s continue.”
“Hey, don’t run away.”
I started running again to get away from the annoying grinning Akari, but she caught up with me in no time, and I ended up being teased while running.
……
…
“We’re back~”
“Who are you talking to…?”
After running for about an hour early in the morning, we went straight back to my house. We took turns taking showers, and then started making breakfast.
“Watch me! I’ll use Shiori-san’s tamagoyaki technique!”
“I’ll watch, but first you need to focus on what you’re doing.”
The two of us prepared breakfast side by side in the small kitchen. This was another of Akari’s requests. Well, as long as Akari is satisfied with this… She doesn’t seem to have planned anything else, so maybe she’s just being considerate.
“”Itadakimasu.””
The two of us ate a delicious breakfast of rice and instant miso soup that I had cooked before going out for a run, and a slightly burnt tamagoyaki. Akari continued to eat happily, but I couldn’t help but wonder, so I decided to ask her about her true intentions for today.
“…Hey, Akari. Is this really okay?”
“…Yes. This is what they call a ‘home date.'”
“Even for a home date, this is…”
“Too ‘normal’…?”
Akari answered as if she had anticipated what I was about to say. Maybe she was being considerate after all. Thinking this, I tried to apologize, but Akari started speaking before I could.
“Isn’t normal good? Spending time with someone you like in the same routine. For me, this is the greatest happiness.”
“But…”
“No ‘buts’ today. I said this is okay, so please just go along with it.”
I’m so pathetic. Even if I said nice things like wanting to make everyone happy, my time and money are limited. If this continues, my girlfriends will lose patience with me one day. If that’s it, then it’s fine, but if there’s something bad waiting for them beyond that, then I’ll——
“…Hey, Senpai.”
As I was worrying and unable to say anything, Akari put down her chopsticks and moved to sit next to me.
“…Shiori-san once told me that you have a secret you’re hiding from us. Watching you today, I think I kind of understand what she meant.”
“…! …That’s…”
“Ah, you don’t have to say it. I’m not asking you to reveal anything, and Shiori-san also didn’t seem to mind.”
Akari gently held my hand and continued speaking in a calmer mood than usual.
“Senpai, it doesn’t matter what you’re thinking, what made you change your heart, or why you reached out to us. What’s important is that we’re here now, smiling together, isn’t it?”
“……”
“Thank you so much. Thank you for helping me that day, for just coming by the track and field club room. And for responding to my feelings… I can’t thank you enough.”
As she said that, Akari gently placed her hand on my head and stroked it slowly, as if handling something fragile.
“You’re cool, strong, charming, yet clumsy, and a bit silly. You often get scolded by Shiori-san, but you’re still kind and truly love us. That’s why we love you so much. We want to be by your side forever.”
“……”
It’s no use. I want to hold back my feelings, but I can’t. I don’t want to show this uncool, unbecoming Ibuse Reo, but I can’t stop the tears from overflowing.
“You’ve done your best. You’re really amazing, so it’s okay to cry today. Show me lots of pathetic sides of yourself. After all, I’m the legal wife.”
“Shut up… I’m not crying… Hmph… Uuuh…”
“Yeah, yeah… Sure, you’re not crying.”
All sorts of emotions welled up inside me, and they all came pouring out in the form of tears. While I continued to cry, Akari kept stroking my head and saying kind words to me.
After that, we spent the day relaxing as if it were a normal everyday life. We watched movies recommended by Akari on a subscription service, read manga, played games, ordered pizza for dinner, and spent the day lazily savoring the happiness we had now.
And so my turbulent three months as Ibuse Reo came to an end. My initial goal was accomplished, and from here on out, I’m going to live my second life without any problems…
Or so I thought.
……
…
“Manager. The new part-time job interview is tomorrow, right?”
“Yes, but… What’s up, Mizukami? Are you targeting the new member or something?”
“Of course not. I just remembered you said they’re the same age as me, so I was curious. Besides, I have a boyfriend. I’ll sue you for sexual harassment.”
“Please don’t do that…”
……
…
A story I didn’t know about
“…Sakura, Kaede. There’s something important I need to tell you two.”
“What’s with the sudden seriousness, Dad?”
“This is something very important. Listen carefully.”
“Y-yeah…okay…”
A story that wasn’t supposed to exist——
——was now about to begin.
Date: ???
Event name: “ “
Target heroine: Sakura

So he is gonna start working at the same place as Noa.
Regardless, I didn’t expect the tomboy character to have such a side to her. It’s a pleasant surprise.
it was a perfect ending
I see, author-sama won’t spare any heroine.
