Chapter 26 – Miyano Sakura Enters
Monday, July 22nd.
After achieving impressive results in the tournament, everyone was waiting for Akari to come to the student council room for the first time in a while…
“She’s not coming…”
It’s already been 10 minutes since lunch break started, but there was no sign of Akari arriving.
“Akari-chan said she was coming, right?”
“Yeah, but maybe she’s busy…”
“Ugh… I’m so nervous…”
Well, Akari probably has friends in class too, so she’s probably late because they were celebrating with her. She’ll probably come soon, so maybe it’s best for us to just spend the day as usual.
Just as I was thinking that and was about to suggest it to the other two…
“Ibuse Reo!!!!”
Bang!
The girl with the voice and character design I least wanted to hear and see slammed open the door to the student council room.
“I heard about your bad deeds from Onii-chan!! Eh, it’s cool!? What!? An air conditioner!? That’s not fair!”
“Calm down, Sakura…”
With two pigtails sticking out from her head, Sakura stomped into the room, astonished by the cool air. Behind her was Akari, looking very awkward, bowing repeatedly to Shiori.
“I’ve heard the rumors, but… I never thought he’d actually use the student council room as his personal space…”
So it’s become a rumor, huh? Well, it’s to be expected.
“You scumbag! Get your hands off Akari right now! Otherwise——”
“First-year.”
“Y-yes?!!”
Shiori had been keeping silent for a while, but she finally spoke out. The moment she spoke, everyone there straightened up and quietly waited for the student council president’s next words.
“Where do you think you are?”
“…The student council room.”
“Right. So what should you do first when entering the student council room?”
“…Knock.”
“Oh, impressive. You understand well. And how should the door be opened?”
“…Quietly…”
“Good. So do you know this second-year boy over here?”
“No…This is the first time we’ve met…”
“Oh. So it’s normal for you to talk casually to a senior you’ve just met, and even insult them.”
“No… I usually use polite language…”
“I see, I see. Then try again.”
“Yes… I’m sorry…”
After being calmly reprimanded by Shiori, the girl plodded out of the student council room and decided to repeat her entrance scene.
Knock, knock
“Excuse me…”
“Come in.”
Her boldness from before was gone. She slid the door open as carefully as possible. Her two pigtails seemed a little weaker.
“What’s your name?”
“Miyano Sakura, Class 1-3… I heard that Ibuse Reo-senpai was here…”
“I see. That’s right. Ibuse-kun, may she come in?”
“Yes… Go ahead…”
Shiori’s pressure made me shrink back. I had completely forgotten, but Shiori was an incredibly strict person. I should definitely avoid angering her. I can’t imagine having enough lives to spare.
“Excuse me…”
The girl… Sakura, the protagonist’s younger sister, walked over to me with her head down and tried to resume our conversation. But…
“Ugh… Huh… Hic…”
“Sakura?!”
Sakura started crying before she could say anything to me. Akari, who had seen what was happening, ran over to comfort her.
As I was thinking about what to say, Sakura glared at me with her big eyes filled with tears.
“I’ll let you off the hook for now!!! Remember this!!!”
She shouted a typical line after defeat, shook off Akari who was trying to comfort her, and ran out of the student council room.
“Huh, that first-year needs to be taught a lesson…”
“I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry! She’s not a bad kid! Please forgive her!”
Akari bowed desperately to Shiori, who was showing her anger once again. This storm-like series of events had Nanami trembling the whole time, and I felt quite awkward as well.
That girl was Miyano Sakura, as she introduced herself. She is Miyano Kaede’s non-blood-related sister. She’s the only heroine in the game without a bad ending, and she’s the one I least wanted to meet because I felt like something bad would happen if I did.
“I’m sorry, Senpai… I couldn’t get her to listen no matter what…”
“It’s fine. I’m used to being insulted by now. But what happened?”
“…Remember, we made a date promise, right?”
“Eh?! A d-date?!”
“Nanami, it’s complicated.”
In a sudden turn of events, Nanami, who was flustered by the unexpected topic, was calmed down by Shiori. Akari glanced at Nanami briefly and then continued with her explanation.
“So, you know… I was feeling a bit excited today and I… I accidentally mentioned the date to Sakura. Oh, of course I didn’t mention it was with Senpai, but… she ended up pressing me, asking, ‘Is it with that Ibuse Reo?!’”
“So that’s what brought her here.”
The issue seemed to be caused by Kaede. Sakura had mentioned something about hearing it from his brother earlier.
“I’m sorry!”
After finishing her story, Akari bowed her head vigorously. She probably thought her friend had been rude. Shiori is pissed, but I understand how she feels. I’ll try to cover for her here.
“It’s not a big deal. But you know, the President here… has her position to think about too.”
“Hey Nanami. Was I really that scary?”
“Yeah. You were really scary.”
“Is that so… Sorry, Akari-chan…”
“No, it’s fine! Sakura is at fault…”
Shiori also regretted being too harsh, and the atmosphere became even more tense. Deciding that today was not the time to celebrate, I made a suggestion to Akari.
“Go after that girl. You two are best friends, right?”
“B-but…”
“It’s fine. I’m really not angry.”
“…Okay.”
Akari bowed to us again and left the student council room to chase after Sakura.
“…Hey, Ibuse-kun.”
“Yeah?”
After Akari was gone, Nanami asked me what she had probably wanted to ask all this time.
“Are you two…dating?”
“…Well…we’re not…”
“Eh?! You’re going on a date even though you two aren’t dating?!”
“Well, that’s…”
I’m at a loss for words when this topic is dug up again. While I was wondering how to explain it, Shiori started to explain for me.
“Remember the event the other day? Akari-chan actually said she wanted to come along too, but the track and field club had a tournament coming up, so Ibuse-kun tried to persuade Akari-chan. He said they’d go on a date if Akari-chan gets good results at the tournament.”
“Ugh…”
“So, Ibuse-kun actually said that… Wow…”
“Well… back then I was really full of myself…”
I was totally over the moon back then, and now it’s like a dark memory. So please, stop looking at me with those ‘Wow… how embarrassing’ eyes.
“…I bet they’ll have a great date. Akari-chan is lucky, isn’t she, Nanami. They’re going to have a date. We want it too, don’t we?”
Noticing how embarrassed I was, Shiori seemed to hold a grudge about what I had said that day and relentlessly teased me.
“Wait, so the movie invitation the other day…?”
“Maybe it was an invitation for a date. You’re lucky, Nanami, you’re getting a date!”
“…Um, Ibuse-kun… Now that I think about it, maybe we shouldn’t…”
“I told you it’s not like that!! I just wanted to look cool in front of my junior!!”
It felt like the distance between me and Nanami that I’d worked so hard to close was growing. Seeing my desperate and flustered state, Shiori began to smile with satisfaction, and I ended up being embarrassed for a while longer.
