Chapter 17 – The Painful Truth Behind Nanami’s Route
Nanami’s event is a bit different in style from the other three. First, the perspective is from some random NPC we don’t know, and the genre itself is different to begin with.
NTR and BSS. They’re similar but not the same. Even I, who was playing the game, was puzzled for some time.
In fact, compared to the first two characters, her event is far too peaceful. There’s none of that disgusting kind of scenes, so it lacks practical value. And who is this narrator that suddenly showed up?
Kinoshita Nanami doesn’t do anything unless you interfere, and in the first playthrough, she’s just a complete nonentity. But suddenly, after summer vacation, she turns into a beauty and starts dating some handsome guy she met on social media. Even when that was revealed, all I could think was, “Oh, is that so?”
But that’s all outside of her route.
When I saw this in the first playthrough, I thought to myself, “Maybe I should start with Nanami…”
She has one of the best looks in the game. She’s an otaku girl. And above all, her breasts are huge. Moreover, she’s the only one I haven’t seen any erotic scenes in.
I was excited, thinking that it would be amazing, so I started the second playthrough. I skipped Akari and Shiori’s events on the second playthrough and entered Nanami’s route. I was excited to see when she would enter beauty mode, but…
She never did.
She didn’t take off her glasses.
She didn’t style her hair.
She stayed as she was.
I kept playing, believing that maybe she’d get a makeover for the ending, but nothing changed. There was no sign of NTR and I reached the ending easily. It was probably the easiest event of the game.
I remember feeling so frustrated back then, wondering what I had just gone through.
In the first place. A nerdy, introverted girl turning out to be a beauty and then coming back from summer vacation a completely different person, all bright and cheerful? That’s not something you see every day. I couldn’t sympathize at all with the person who wrote the review, thinking that they must have lived an amazing life.
And yet, this is what I felt when I saw Nanami in beauty mode, “She’d be happier if I didn’t enter her route…”
At that moment, I felt like I finally understood the true meaning behind those reviews.
The essence of the Nanami route is the application of a game system that is based on playing it multiple times.
First of all, the game shows how she’s living a smooth-sailing life by dating someone other than the protagonist.
And then, there’s that random guy. A total stereotype of an otaku guy. The developers probably included him to make it more relatable to the players.
And then, the game appeals to the player, “With the current you, you can stand next to that angel.”
If you take that at face value, throw away the other heroines, and rush into this route, you’ll find an unchanged Nanami. If you give up on the game at that moment like I did and never try to capture Nanami again, you won’t notice it. That’s because in this game there is only one happy ending for each heroine. You can tell by looking at the recollection room.
But what if——
…What if a player who believes there must be some conditions keeps replaying the game? There is indeed a certain demand for a secretly beautiful otaku girl.
However, no matter what conditions or choices you try, Nanami never changes.
The future in which Nanami becomes the most beautiful girl in school as your girlfriend and eventually becomes a successful super-famous cosplayer will never come.
There is only one way to see that future.
There is only one way to see that future, when she’s dating a man who is wealthier, more influential, better-looking, and kinder than you.
For the player who doesn’t give up and keeps replaying, what awaits them is the realization that “Nanami is more successful when she dates a man better than me.”
It’s not that Nanami isn’t happy in her route. In the post-ending epilogue, she enjoys a decent life with the protagonist.
But we have already been shown something——
Her angelic smile, one that was even more beautiful than the one in her own epilogue, her face shining with genuine joy.
A smile you can never bring out with your own power.
The phrase “reminds me of the past” from that one review likely refers to the sad reality that people who like characters like Nanami may have experienced at least once.
It is a man’s defeat to someone superior to himself, purely as a male.
Of course, this is all just my fantasy. It’s entirely possible that this future awaits on Nanami’s route as well.
But she is one of the heroines in the game that has events like that prepared, just like Akari, Shiori, and the main heroine, Noa. It’s not an impossible scenario.
But still.
That said, if you don’t like Nanami, then realizing the developer’s intentions won’t matter. Let Nanami stay with that famous cosplayer and be happy.
Throwing all of my speculations aside, I called out to Nanami, who was reading a book.
“Hey, is that interesting?”
“Huh… oh, no! I mean, it’s…!”
When I called out to her, Nanami quickly ruffled her bangs to hide her face.
It’s a waste to hide such beauty. Well, it’s kind of exciting that I’m the only one who knows about it…
Huh!!!?
“W-what’s wrong?”
“Ah, it’s nothing! Really nothing…”
What’s with the way I feel right now… It’s as if…
“S-sorry for showing you something unpleasant…”
“No, no… not at all…”
She’s so cute, and yet she has no confidence, what a negative girl. But I guess that’s part of Nanami’s charm too…
“Huh!!?”
“E-ehhh!!!? W-w-what’s wrong!?”
“Hey, you two! Please keep it down in the library.”
Ah, that’s it. So that’s it…
I had forgotten that now that I have this body, that I’ve become Ibuse Reo, I’ve reached a position like the pinnacle of men.
It’s embarrassing to say this after talking from a condescending perspective, but…
I’m an otaku who likes “secretly beautiful otaku girls” myself!!!

T/N: She better without you bro, dem!!!!!
this is beautifully described 😭
This chapter is slapping the faces of many of us. One way is that the talk about being defeated as a man. The other is, I also realize I am an otaku like the heavenly villain.
