- Chapter 89: Simple Seasoning
The room we are currently in is on the third floor of a building adjacent to the church.
The second floor is a large hall with desks and chairs, and it seems the Church Knight Order uses it for breaks too.
And there is only one staircase, so to go outside, one has no choice but to pass through there.
In other words, when we go outside, we will definitely be spotted by them.
I looked down from the window.
Considering jumping down from the third floor onto the stone-paved ground, was it a bit difficult?
“Wouldn’t you be found out by the sound?”
He must have guessed what I was thinking.
I was denied by Rubert.
He stood next to me and peered down.
“If there was a rope… it’s not in the luggage. Or rather, shouldn’t we just walk out openly?”
That was certainly true though.
There was nothing guilty about our actions so far.
“It’s boring staying in the room like this too, isn’t it.”
“That’s true too, but I’m hungry. Since we finally came to a new place, don’t you want to try the food there?”
“Do you think there are shops?”
“Since pilgrims come from outside, there should be.”
It was probably not just people returning on a day trip.
“Setting us aside, strictly speaking nobles and commoners can’t eat together, but are there nobles among the pilgrims?”
Rubert looked toward the door.
He was probably worried about getting scolded if we took the Royal Capital Knights along.
“Since I, a Royal, am permitting it, isn’t it fine? I’m like the boss of nobles.”
When I replied lightly, Rubert burst out laughing.
“Wasn’t there a slightly better expression?”
I thought so too.
“We have not heard that story.”
“You haven’t heard? That’s troubling, can’t you announce us for now?”
“Hmph. Only after you prove who you are.”
“Right, wouldn’t this name tag do?”
“It’s not necessarily true that that name tag is correct!”
“You’re kidding, right!?”
“That’s enough, leave this to me.”
“Idiot, stop it. Don’t put your hand on your sword, Mei.”
While we were talking about going to eat or something, it was somewhat noisy outside.
It seemed Garim and Debut were arguing with someone.
“What are you guys doing?”
“Ah, thank goodness. Someone who seems to understand talk has come.”
When I opened the door, Garim and Debut were talking to Church Knights I didn’t recognize.
“Umm… who are you?”
“Yes, I’m called Touka. I’m a Church Knight Squad Leader. Well, the squad disbanded so it’s just in name though. Haha…”
Touka. A man with an androgynous appearance.
His skin color was white, and his silky reddish-brown long hair was swaying.
He was wearing horizontally narrow oval glasses and looked intellectual.
Atmosphere-wise, he seemed quite calm.
“I am Mei, also from the Church Knights! Touka-taicho’s former squad member!”
Mei was a size smaller than Touka.
Black hair, black eyes. Her features were Oriental, or how should I put it, she had a face close to a Japanese person.
And both of them were saluting in armor from the neck down.
“Ah, hello. So what did you guys come here for?”
“Yes, we have been ordered by the Church Knight Order Commander to guide Prince Zeke and his party around the facilities when they go out.”
“Heeh…”
For a moment, my gaze crossed with Rubert next to me.
It meant they were watchdogs.
“Then, I want to go eat now, do you know any delicious shops?”
“Ahh… then I will guide you.”
Led by Touka, the place we arrived at was a shop for the masses.
The inside was spacious, and there were people eating too.
“Was here alright? There were places for nobles too.”
“Yeah, I don’t mind.”
Because if it were a place for nobles, Debut and Garim wouldn’t be able to eat, right?
Anyway, we took our seats immediately.
We each ordered and started eating.
Hard bread and soup with vegetables. Stir-fried vegetables and vegetable…
“There is no meat.”
“Hmph. The taste too… well, it’s softer than the stone-like bread during expeditions and has taste, but.”
Garim and Debut were complaining, but regarding the taste, I could agree a little.
The reason being, the taste of the food here was very simple.
The seasoning was probably just salt.
If asked if it’s delicious, it depended on the dish, but there was a sense of unsatisfaction.
There was no meat and no fish either.
Regarding fish, well, it was probably because there were no rivers or seas nearby, but to think there was no meat either.
Did it mean they didn’t really kill living things?
Even though they killed humans; it was ironic.
Also there was no alcohol.
Regarding this, well, if asked if pilgrims drank alcohol, they probably didn’t.
When we left the eatery and returned to the building where we were staying, a single knight came running to Touka.
Touka floated a troubled bitter smile while listening to the story.
“What happened?”
“No, I was told from above to guide Prince Zeke to the Church Knight Order’s training grounds as well, what shall we do?”
Why were they singling me, a Prince, out to guide me to such a place?
I wanted to retort, but I was a little interested in the strength of the Church Knight Order.
“Fine, guide me.”
