- Chapter 65 – Please Form Groups of Six
“Starting next week, you’ll be participating in adventure training.”
Kasal-sensei told us while writing on the blackboard during morning homeroom.
For the sake of classmates including me who were wondering “what’s adventure training?”, he explained.
After lengthy explanations and Q&A, and with it being early morning, I was getting a bit sleepy, but the conclusion was that we would form groups of six and conduct group training.
Four first-years and two second-years—we’d do training with upperclassmen that would last several days with overnight stays.
So what exactly would this adventure training entail? It was free-form.
Students could decide—strolling the highlands to gather medicinal herbs, climbing mountains to inflict violence on monsters sleeping there for no particular reason and claim results, etc…. It was left to student discretion.
Also, dungeon exploration was particularly popular.
This school had a dungeon with extensive underground areas to the west that could be explored.
The danger level was reasonable, but there was no problem as long as you didn’t carelessly proceed deep underground.
I’m pretty sure in the game, after graduation, Misty holed up here and grew stronger by defeating monsters, so it was quite an important place.
The underground was vast, but students had restricted floors they could access, so they shouldn’t go too deep… probably.
The dungeon changed slightly day by day, so ores and plants could be different depending on when you entered.
Since the items available differed each time, even if you originally went for experience from defeating monsters, it was understandable to keep delving even after becoming strong enough not to need experience.
—Well, whatever.
Anyway, we had to form a four-person group, and naturally it would be me and Misty.
“P-please take care of me…”
A girl Misty brought along named Riti joined.
Riti Puti.
If I had to describe her in one word: small animal.
She had short chestnut hair in a bob cut. With her small stature and somewhat childish face, she had a cute rather than beautiful appearance.
I think she was a quiet, reserved girl.
If she’s Misty’s friend, I welcomed her.
“Yeah, nice to meet you. Don’t worry about status or anything. We’re classmates, so let’s get along.”
When I glanced at Misty, she was smiling while subtly shifting her gaze away from me.
I thought things had improved somewhat since then, but apparently it was still no good.
Now, what should we do about the last person?
As I was about to look around—
Hm?
Somehow about half my vision went dark…
“Whoa?!”
I involuntarily stepped back.
Zaik, when did you get next to me! Also, you’re too close—if we didn’t have a height difference, I would’ve given you my first kiss!
“Why are you at zero distance ‘Zeke-sama.'”
Zaik spoke over me.
“What?”
“Take me with you. You’re looking for people, right?”
“Well, that’s true, but…”
Is Zaik fine? Are there others I could invite…
I felt a gaze, and when I looked, Levin was glancing this way repeatedly with a serious face.
“…………”
When I shifted my gaze next, the Desert Noble Toprak Seiran was staring this way with his arms crossed.
What’s with that guy, he’s scary.
We’ve never talked even once, yet our eyes meet constantly, which is super awkward.
“…………”
These three choices, huh? No need to hesitate.
I grabbed Zaik’s shoulder.
“Zaik, you’re the fourth member of my group.”
“Yes! Thank you very much!”
Zaik then energetically greeted Misty and Riti and chatted lightly.
Immediately after, the gazes decreased.
Yeah, the danger passed.
Also, what’s with those guys? If they have something to say, can’t they use words?
In the real world, eyes don’t speak as much as mouths, you know?
Several days later.
We were meeting the two upperclassmen who would accompany us.
There was no information at all, but what kind of people would they be?
When I opened the door to the designated classroom, a male and female upperclassman stood before me.
One had black hair and was on the shorter side. With bad-looking eyes and a foul mouth, likely to be called something like Mighty Sword in the future…
“Zeke-sama, isn’t that the crazy second-year senpai?”
Zaik was worried, but yeah, it’s fine. Despite how she looks, the danger level is low.
“It’s been a while.”
“Yeah, long time. Larba.”
That’s right, one was Larba Ribauto.
I heard she was at this school, but this was the first time meeting her on campus.
Surprisingly, when the grade is different, you don’t run into each other.
As I was thinking that, Larba grinned.
“Speaking of which, I heard you got suspended right after enrollment. It was a hot topic even in the upper grades.”
“That’s… please don’t bring that up.”
It’s one of my black marks.
“Hahaha. Well, I’m glad you seem as lively as ever.”
“Actually, I didn’t hear about you, Larba, so I was wondering how you were doing.”
“Really? I did stuff like beating up upperclassmen who said cheeky things…”
“Wait!”
An angry voice came from the side.
“Why are you ignoring me!”
“I’m not particularly ignoring you, but also, why are you even here?”
And the other upperclassman was, as always, my relative with her headstrong personality on full display—brown-haired.
Driema was glaring.
“Is it strange for me to be here?”
“I mean, age-wise you should be third year, right?”
“Huh? Larba-sama is second year, right? Obviously I’d be in the same grade!”
“Eh, you mean you stayed back a year to match Larba’s grade?!”
“It’s not staying back! It’s taking leave!”
Apparently, because she wanted to be in the same grade as Larba, she feigned poor health and took a year’s leave right after enrollment to match Larba’s grade.
Come to think of it, I didn’t see her at parties for a whole year last year—so that was the reason.
“You really did that, huh?”
“Hmph, this is how you use your wits cleverly.”
“Wits… hmm.”
“Do you have a complaint?”
“Now now, Driema, calm down. Zeke, don’t tease Driema too much either. She’s my precious betrothed.”
“Ah, yeah… sorry.”
Larba calls Driema “Driema”…
“Anyway, we’ll be accompanying you on the adventure training.”
“Looking forward to it!”
