- Chapter 12 – Dance Lessons
“Visitors from the Seiran Kingdom will arrive next month.”
After breakfast, Father spoke in a solemn atmosphere.
Seiran Kingdom.
Though not adjacent to Carlaan Kingdom, it was a friendly nation trading various goods, and a great power expanding its vast territory to the south.
Carlaan Kingdom had an alliance of equals with them.
However, even though visitors from Seiran were coming…
“Is there a problem?”
I asked since I didn’t understand.
Father frowned.
“We’re planning to hold a welcome party. We intend to make it grand.”
“Yes, I think that’s good.”
“They know about you all and said they’d like to meet you once.”
“That’s an honor.”
Yeah, what’s the problem with that?
As I tilted my head, Tigos called out “Nii-san…” in a small voice.
“Do you understand what it means to hold a grand welcome party?”
“Ah, grand, right?”
Flashy… the table will probably have quite a lot of delicacies and such…
I’m almost drooling just thinking about it.
As the many delicious-looking dishes spread through my mind, even though I’d just eaten I felt like my stomach might growl, when Tigos sighed in exasperation.
“Nii-san, you really don’t get it. It’s a grand party, and they know about us and even requested to greet us.”
“Yeah… yeah?”
No, could it be… that’s what this means?
When I looked at Father, Father averted his eyes, and Mother laughed “hohoho…” while drinking tea.
Of course, they wouldn’t meet my eyes.
Oh, oh no.
I still can’t dance though.
Of course grand parties involve dancing, and especially when there are princes, you normally dance before greetings.
However, I can’t dance.
This is a huge crisis.
Father will be embarrassed too!
This is bad, this is really baaaad.
When I headed to the second garden, Rubert was waiting.
The garden that had a large hole had been quickly restored to its original state thanks to Sebastian’s swift response.
“Good morning, Zeke-sama… you look down.”
“Can you tell?”
“Well yeah, did something happen?”
I immediately told Rubert what had happened.
“I see, you had such a serious face I thought it was something major, but it’s not a big deal at all.”
“No no no, I can’t dance. I’ll embarrass Father!”
I spoke passionately telling him to think seriously, but Rubert was unfazed.
“But it’s next month, right? Just learn to dance.”
“Learn? I don’t know anything about it. I can’t do it without a teacher.”
“I can teach you.”
“It can’t be that easy… huh? You can?”
Rubert said it casually.
“I mean, I’m originally from a noble family. I was good at dancing.”
******
“Yes, you’re off beat. Focus on the clapping of my hands. Step, step.”
After that, I started dance practice with Rubert as my dance teacher.
A week had passed, but this wasn’t going well.
“Zeke-sama, your feet are crossed… did you forget the footwork I taught you yesterday?”
“I remember! I remember but I feel like I’m forgetting.”
“That means you don’t remember. Let’s get it ingrained in your body.”
As I stepped in response to the clapping sound, I heard the sound of armor.
“Oh, Zeke-sama is doing something.”
“Hmph. From what I see, it’s neither sword nor magic.”
The two idlers arrived.
“You guys always come here. Don’t you have anything else to do?”
“I just came to tease Zeke-sama.”
“Hmph. Perfect for killing time.”
They answered while getting indignant at Rubert’s mocking words.
Wait, killing time?
“So what is Zeke-sama doing?”
When I told them about next month, the two nodded while sitting beside me.
“Indeed, I’ve never seen Zeke-sama dance.”
“Hmph. Let’s see this dance of Zeke-sama’s.”
What position are you guys even in?
I just ignored them and resumed dance practice.
“Hmm… hey Garim, Zeke-sama doesn’t look very good.”
“Hmph. Goes without saying. The first step is slow.”
“Sometimes it’s fast though.”
“Hmph. Being fast at unnecessary times is no good.”
The peanut gallery is noisy.
“Can you guys even dance?”
At my words, the two stood up sharply.
“Good grief, shall we show you”
“Our true ability?”
The two declared confidently.
Are they really that good…?
The two made me sit down.
“Then, I’ll clap like for Zeke-sama, so move to that.”
When Rubert started clapping, the two began moving.
I shuddered seeing it.
“You guys…”
Both were certainly skilled!
They were good, but… why Cossack dance?!
