A stylish woman dressed in a butler’s uniform came over to greet my mom.

“Sorry for making you handle such a sudden reservation.”

“Here we have Caprese salad and marinated salmon for your appetizers.”

Since this was a high-class restaurant, I had imagined they’d bring out some crazy dishes, but what arrived was food I’d actually heard of. Though, in front of us, they also placed drinks that looked like deep red wine?

“Don’t worry. Yours doesn’t have alcohol.”

At my mom’s reassurance, I took a sip of the wine—or what looked like wine. It was a rich grape juice. It wasn’t bitter at all, easy to drink, and delicious.

“So? What is it you want to ask?”

My mom ate some Caprese and took a sip of her “wine.” But thanks to being stopped earlier, I’d regained my composure and remembered the right order to talk about this.

“Could you take a look at this first?”

I showed her the video Seiya had uploaded on social media.

“This… Is this you, Yoru?”

Even as I explained, my mom just kept staring at the phone screen.

I had put too much strength into it without realizing.

I was sure she wasn’t really interested in me. That was why having her actually accept my request made a weight lift off my shoulders. After that, I enjoyed the fillet steak topped with foie gras that was brought out.

“Hey, Yoru. I’ll be staying at the hotel again tonight… Do you want to stay with me?”

Toward the end of the meal, my mom said she had booked a room in a luxury hotel. Apparently, whenever she didn’t come home, this was where she stayed.

“No, I’m full and feel like taking a walk.”

“Right. I already had dessert, and I got to ask you about my favor, so I’ll head home first.”

The dessert had been tiramisu, and it was easily the best one I’d ever tasted.

As I stood up, my mom reached out her hand and called out to me.

“Yoru… Is there nothing else you want me to do for you?”

When she asked, nothing came to mind.

“I’m fine. I can manage on my own, and I’ve even made friends at school.”

The faces of Seiya, Hayato, and Youhei came to mind.

“…I see. Be careful on your way home.”

She pulled back her hand and turned her face away.

“Yeah. And Mom, don’t drink too much, okay? Take care of yourself.”

I left the table and headed toward the exit.

“Are you leaving already?”

At the door, the stylish staff member opened it for me.

“Yes.”

“Please be safe. We sincerely look forward to your next visit.”

I bowed my head slightly and left the restaurant. As expected from a luxury hotel, the elevator ride down from the top floor was quiet, and the view of the night skyline as I descended was breathtaking to the very end.

As I exited the hotel, every employee bowed their heads to me.

“Please take care on your way.”

It felt like I was some VIP, and just like in the restaurant, I got to experience a pleasant, uplifting feeling. On the way to the station, there was a big park. At night, the park was a little scary, but the breeze felt refreshing.

“Ah! A man!!!”

A woman suddenly shouted loudly at me.

“Hm? Who’s there?”

She spoke so fast I couldn’t even process what she said. Her clothes and demeanor gave off a rustic vibe, but her face was beautiful and her skin looked fair as it glistened against the moonlight.

I braced myself just in case and asked.

“M-my name is Tae Mori. This is the first time in my life I’ve seen a man! So, I have a favor to ask!”

I clicked my tongue inwardly. I had just seen a news story about country girls coming to the city looking for men and pulling lewd stunts and here I was, stupidly walking through a park at night.
