【Ran Souma】
That day, my day off just happened to overlap. In the middle of keeping myself busy to escape from the days of frustration, an empty day suddenly opened up. But staying shut up in my room didn’t suit me.
Thinking that, I decided to go out into the city and do a little shopping. While juggling both university and modeling work, I hadn’t even had the time to spend money. So if I had a day off, I thought I’d splurge a little and forget about Yoru.
There was no point in moping forever anyway. That was what I told myself. After today’s shopping, I’d finally forgotten about Yoru. With that in mind, I headed into the city.
“Hey, did you see that guy just now?”
“I saw, I saw! He’s super handsome! And slim and stylish! Is he some kind of model?”
“Eh, but I’ve never seen a male model like that. Sure, he was tall, good-looking, and perfect, but… When someone is that perfect, you can’t even bring yourself to talk to him.”
“Exactly. He’s probably here for some kind of shoot or meeting, right? No way we could just walk up and talk to him.”
I overheard two flashy, predatory-looking girls talking, and my curiosity was piqued. Even if it wasn’t Yoru, maybe seeing a handsome guy would help me shake off my lingering attachment to him.
Just what kind of man would make even girls who seemed like they’d normally hit on guys in this area hesitate? That thought made me start looking for him. No—there wasn’t even a need to search.
There was already a circle of women gathered around a man staring into a shop window. I wanted a glimpse, so I pushed my way through the crowd toward him. He was striking poses in front of the glass, as if checking how clothes looked on him.
Truly tall, with sharply defined features—an undeniably handsome man. The more I looked at him, the more my chest tightened, and before I knew it, I was drawing closer. I knew the other women were giving me pitying looks, but I couldn’t make my feet stop.
“Um… Yoru? Is that you?”
His black hair was styled in soft, loose waves. A baggy shirt paired with slim pants. He looked like he had stepped right out of the catalog of some famous fashion brand. But beneath it all, I could see the traces of Yoru.
“Ran-san. Long time no see.”
It had been about two months, and Yoru had changed almost beyond recognition. From the boy with a shadow about him, whose gaze often wandered curiously toward women, into a flawless young man who carried both refined style and calm confidence.
“Y-You’re really Yoru…Right?”
He had been tall and big before, but it felt like he had grown even more. More than anything, his whole aura had transformed.
“You’ve changed a lot.”
“Really? I thought I tried pretty hard too. It’s the first time someone’s said I’ve changed, so I don’t really feel it.”
Even the way he shyly fiddled with his hair looked natural. Actually, he looked adorable. Cool, yet adorable. Not fair. This was bad. I had missed him so much.
“…Yeah. You’ve gotten cooler. You worked hard.”
It was such a lame thing to say, but it was all I could manage. Still—wasn’t it careless for a guy to just stroll through the city alone? This wasn’t some quiet early morning street. No, this was practically a hunting ground where predatory girls scouted men daily.
“So, what are you doing around here today?”
When I asked out of concern…
“I thought I’d look at summer clothes. But I don’t know where men’s clothes are sold. I usually buy online, so I don’t even know the stores.”
The way Yoru admitted it with a sheepish look… I couldn’t take it anymore. There was no way I could just leave him like this. Running into him on my day off—it had to be fate.
“Alright. Yoru, let’s go on a date today. I’ll show you where they sell men’s clothes.”
“Eh? Really? Don’t you have plans?”
Honestly, I had only gone out because I was frustrated. I had wanted to see him. I had wanted to see him again and apologize for calling him gross.
“No, I’m off practice today, so I just came out to the city for a change of pace. I don’t have any particular plans.”
But maybe he hadn’t even cared about what I’d said that day. I couldn’t bring myself to bring it up again, so I deflected.
“Then, please.”
And from there, it became a dreamlike time. A date with Yoru—the one I had wanted to see so badly. I had so much I wanted to say that I ended up talking the whole time.
“It’s really been a while since that day.”
On the way to the boutique, I told him about my university life and modeling. Almost entirely about me. The only thing he said was that he had started high school.
“Sorry, sorry. I keep talking about myself.”
“No, I’m actually glad to learn more about you, Ran-san. Also…Are you sure about all this?”
When I apologized, he smiled at me with such genuine joy. Dangerous. The moment his manly face broke into that crinkly smile, I thought I might pass out from how much I liked him.
But when we entered the boutique, I realized I had made a mistake. I assumed, since he was a guy, money wouldn’t be a problem. But he looked shocked when he saw the price tags.
Men’s clothing was limited in production, so each piece was extremely expensive. Seeing him hesitate, I thought to myself.
This is my chance.
If I picked something for him and gave it as a present, it would raise his opinion of me. So I immediately chose several outfits that would suit him and headed for the register.
“It’s fine, it’s fine. But remember, I get to be the first one to see you wearing these.”
When we moved to a café, we talked about the boutique. Unlike most men, he kept apologizing with a humbled look. But wasn’t it normal for a woman to give a man a gift? Why was he worrying so much? If anything, seeing him in clothes I had chosen… That was the happiest thing for me.
“Thank you so much for today — not just for showing me the shop but for buying me clothes too.”
“I already told you it’s fine. I’m a college student, but I’m already earning my own money too.”
Even though I was modeling, I hadn’t had any use for the money. Never had I felt like I had spent it in a more meaningful way than today.
“Next time, I’ll pay. Let me treat you to a meal.”
A man treating a woman? Did that mean he wanted to stand on equal footing with me? And was he even saying it was okay to plan for next time? Did that mean Yoru wanted to see me again too?
“Next time? Hmm… Well, if you insist that much, fine. Shall we exchange contact information then?”
Inside, I was pumping my fist and shouting victory cries.
“Yes!”
The delighted look on Yoru’s face as we exchanged contact info… I couldn’t hold back anymore. If night fell like this, I would turn into a wolf.
“Shall we get going?”
It was dangerous to stay with him any longer. But things had gone so smoothly up until now.
“Ran-san. Will we see each other again?”
How could I not get greedy when he said that?
“…Well, yeah. Sure. See you.”
Unable to resist anymore, I ran off.

Ran leading by a wide margin!
Not very fair to match a track runner with girls that shot themselves in the foot.
Thanks for the chapter 🙏 🙂
