Is it okay for a loner like me to have a yandere? - Chapter 9- Reunion
I am sitting uncomfortably. My back was straight, posture was stiff.
Not only me, but I could sense my parents were feeling the same.
After all, we were getting some VIP treatment for some reason.
We were pulled to sit on the large sofa, and several maids had served every possible thing a man would prefer to drink and have as a light snack.
I peeked at the table and found that most of those cookies and cakes were not something I had before. So luxurious and delicious looking that I hesitated to move even a finger.
“Please have something, Akito-kun.” The lady of the house, whom I vaguely remembered, Takashi Ayumi-san, insisted with a big smile.
A silver head, half-Russian half-Japanese woman wearing a black one-piece with her hair gathered in a bun that exposed her unblemished neck…yes, I shouldn’t stare at her for long.
I took the cookie politely with a thank you and took a small bite.
Woah….it had just the right amount of crunch and sweetness. It melted on my tongue and made me want to devour it in one go.
But I held myself back for the sake of my parents’ reputation and ate slowly.
“It’s been a long, Hikaru-san.” My Dad turned towards Takahashi Kenji—the patriarch of the family.
“Yes, it’s been a while. How are you and the work?” My Dad started a light conversation.
I was relieved to see that Kenji-san was nothing like her daughter. He didn’t see people with filters and treated them kindly, regardless of their position in society.
The two men started talking about work, and current affairs. It wasn’t boring but my attention shifted to the two women on the other side.
“The design of your bracelet looks so pretty.” Said Ayumi-san with her eyes blinking as she held my Mom’s hand.
“Oh, you like it? I made it in my free time.” My mum replied casually. It’s strange how when it comes to things she likes, she becomes casual around anyone.
“Huh? Really? I also try to make ornaments..but…” Ayumi-san’s shoulders slumped as she revealed the bracelet she was wearing.
It…looked incomplete…or what one can say…damaged? I don’t know, it looked weird. Or was my sense of fashion broken?
“Oh, you have used a good combination of gems but couldn’t arrange them properly,” Mom said after a quick inspection.
“I know right? I just can’t put them together correctly, and taking help from someone else makes me feel I didn’t do it by myself.” She looked dejected.
Mom smiled and told her, “I have a trick to how you can place them…”
And so, they started to talk.
Nice…my parents are getting along with the Takahashi couple.
No, wait. Isn’t this development going in the wrong direction?
I looked around and found the two old men had long left us, going to a different corner to probably play mahjong and enjoy some drinks.
There was no one else but a few maids who were ready to refill our glasses or move when commanded.
I was about to take another bite, when suddenly,
“Are you looking for Suzu, Akito-kun?” Suddenly, Ayumi-san asked and every gaze turned toward me.
I blushed slightly, “N-No…I was searching for Jiichan.”
“Fufu~you don’t need to lie. I know you must be excited to see your childhood friend.”
No.
Absolutely not.
I wish I could be somewhere else.
But could I have said that?
Of course, not.
So I just smiled.
Soon the lady turned towards one of the maids and said, “Take Akito-kun to her room.”
The maid looked flustered, “But madame-”
“Just do what I say. Go, go.” She refused any argument.
I was flustered too.
To her room?
Won’t she like…bite my neck and kill me at the spot?
“Akito-sama…if you may.” The maid arrived by my side and requested.
I glanced at my mother and found her nodding with a smile.
…I am cornered now. Everyone was looking at me expectantly.
Sigh.
“Lead the way,” I said after getting up.
The maid led me upstairs.
I was getting nervous all the way.
It has been over five years since I last saw her.
The last time I met her…it was chaotic.
I shouted at her. Told her thing I didn’t mean. I regretted shouting at her even though her life was already too difficult.
After that, I was never invited by the Takahashi family to play with their daughter. And four years ago I heard she went foreign for God knows what reasons.
So yes, I was nervous. I didn’t know what would happen if she shouted at me or tried to find some way to take revenge on me.
Wait, this whole engagement thing isn’t a way for her to take revenge, right?
“She is inside,” breaking my thoughts, the maid gestured towards the door which led to Suzune-san’s room.
I glanced at the maid, “Won’t you come inside?”
She wryly smiled, “I am not allowed to.”
Seems there is no option but to be courageous here.
Taking a deep breath, I pushed open the door and was met by a strong scent of flowers…or was it perfume?
I stepped inside and found the room was barely lit.
Dark curtains and a plain bedsheet.
The room was barely decorated but was quite peaceful.
I stepped forward and then my eyes landed on the girl sitting before the dressing mirror.
Our eyes met through the reflection.
Her pink eyes made mine, and for a moment, I forgot how to breathe.
She looks, “Beautiful…”
Her eyes widened, cheeks flushed as the brush from her hand dropped—breaking me out of my daze.
“A-Aki…” She called out.
I didn’t know how to respond so I just gave a soft smile and greeted her, “It’s been a while, Suzune-san.”
