So, the exchange meeting is finally here. …Getting to this point felt ridiculously long. No, it was long.
“Haa.”
As usual, in the student council room, Karen Kousaka let out a sigh while reflecting on the past few weeks. After the Valentine’s Day message and gift event, the academy had been caught in an unusual frenzy leading up to the White Rose Festival. Since the title of Catherine’s White Rose represented the face of the academy, many believed that this time, Seiko Kougyoku would surely be chosen as the White Rose.
With the votes split almost evenly between my supporters and those backing Kougyoku-san, the competition was fierce. Many students were undecided about which side to take. Then, amidst it all, it became widely known that Seiko Kougyoku—the so-called empress at the top of the school caste—had feelings for me.
Because of that, students who had previously held back from openly supporting me out of consideration for her started to express their support more actively. In the end, the entire student body united in preparation for the White Rose Festival. As a result, in early March, I was overwhelmingly elected as Catherine’s White Rose.
“By the way, I found out why our exchange school is no longer with Azuchi Momoyama Academy.”
“Wow, Maya-san, that’s amazing. Where do you even get this kind of information?”
“I have my connections.”
“So, what was the reason?”
Maya, the vice president, was incredibly well-informed. No one knew where she got her intel, but her information was always accurate and reliable.
“The Kougyoku family pressured the academy into changing the partner school.”
“The Kougyoku family did? Why?”
“Apparently, someone from Azuchi Momoyama Academy got on their bad side in high society.”
“High society! That’s quite the elite setting.”
“And then?”
“When young people from prestigious families reach high school, they make their debut in high society. There’s an event called the Debutante Gathering, where all the debutantes of that year come together. At that gathering, some guy from Azuchi Momoyama Academy—an Oda-something—was incredibly rude to Seiko Kougyoku.”
“What do you mean by rude?”
“He suddenly marched right up to her and shouted, ‘So this is it! You are my wife!’ while hugging her.”
“Ugh! What the hell?”
I had been silently listening until now, but that was so absurd I couldn’t help but react.
“That Oda-something guy has apparently been infamous for his wild behavior since elementary school.”
“Wild? But Azuchi Momoyama Academy is supposed to be a prestigious school for rich boys, isn’t it?”
“They say he’s the biggest ‘Outsuke’ in the school’s history.”
“Outsuke, huh? That means ‘fool’ or something like that, right?”
“Exactly. He wears his uniform all sloppily, strolls through the school while eating messily, gathers a gang to pull childish pranks. To put it simply, he’s constantly causing trouble for everyone around him.”
Outsuke? Foolish? Hmm, how should I put it? He doesn’t quite seem like a delinquent, but he’s either really sloppy or just immature. A late-stage rebellious phase, maybe?
“The head of the Kougyoku family personally made a firm request, and the academy scrambled to change the partner school.”
“Wow. So that’s what was going on behind the scenes. But I can understand why.”
“I actually welcome the change. I was curious about the students from the new partner school, so I used my connections to look into them. And guess what? They’re the guys from that official PV.”
Official PV? Who are they?
“Isn’t it exciting? When I heard that, I checked out the PV for Sengoku Emaki Kafuuden: Battle Flower Gale, and the guys in it were super good-looking! Do you think they really look like that in real life?”
Ah, BatFla. The game’s official PV, huh? I must have seen it before, but I don’t remember any of the players’ faces—especially not the guys.
“Well, who knows? They’re avatars, after all. I bet they’ve been heavily edited and beautified.”
“Right? That makes sense. There’s no way that many good-looking guys exist in real life.”
Huh? Is everyone actually looking forward to this?
“But… I kind of hope they’re real.”
The ones getting all giddy were the three inseparable student council members in charge of accounting, clerical work, and general affairs—Fumi, Chiharu, and Yuki.
“Men are inferior creatures. No matter how their faces are arranged, they’re all the same.”
Maya, the man-hater, was as merciless as usual.
“Men, huh? I’m not really feeling it either.”
“I knew you’d say that, Karen. Alright, let’s stay focused! We can’t let ourselves get distracted and underestimated by them.”
***
“It’s finally time. Mizushima-sensei, I appreciate your help in supervising today.”
“Satou-sensei, are you nervous?”
“Yes. It’s my first time visiting St. Catherine’s Academy, so I can’t help it.”
For the exchange meeting, Eika Shuuei Academy was sending thirteen second-year students along with two teachers—Mizushima, the senior class advisor, and Satou, the homeroom teacher for Class A.
“For women, that academy seems to hold a special image.”
“That’s true. It’s the top girls’ school, and many daughters of distinguished families attend.”
“You don’t have to worry. They’re definitely a different type from our students, but the girls at Catherine’s Academy are quite reserved.”
“Hearing that makes me feel a little better. Thank you.”
Though Satou said that herself, she felt a dull pain in her stomach and instinctively placed a hand over it.
