- In a World Where Chastity is Reversed, I Ended Up Working as a Hot Spring Attendant
- Chapter 97 - An Auspicious Yet Disappointing Announcement (Tsuburi's Perspective)
“What are you doing?”
I asked without thinking.
Eek!
It was clear that the people who had been glued to the door jumped out of shock.
“That, that thing…”
One of the ringleaders, with a flushed face, tried to explain with meaningless gestures, seemingly excited.
The two next to him raised their index fingers to their lips, signaling for silence.
“Well, I’ll let this slide, so go back to your work.”
I sighed. Though I’m still young, the department handling semen is relatively influential. My superiors are also behind me.
I waved my hand, urging them to return to work quickly.
“We’re sorry.”
They apologized in low voices and hastily left the scene. I sighed as I watched them go.
“Phew…”
I took a deep breath to calm myself.
Knock, knock.
“Is it okay now?”
Given the earlier situation, there was a small possibility they were still up to something, so I called out just in case.
“Yes, it’s okay.”
The voice that came back sounded surprisingly calm.
“Well then, excuse me.”
I said as I opened the door and entered the room.
As soon as I stepped in, a scent, more like a man’s scent, or rather Hisui’s scent, wafted into my nose.
(For a young girl, just this much might make her fall head over heels, right?)
I couldn’t help but think that. Girls are quite sensitive to smells.
Though I am not much different, having directly encountered it recently, I have some resistance and composure.
In the hospital room, Hisui, looking calm despite being slightly disheveled, lay on the bed, while his guard, Hachikuma, sat in a chair by his side. Both had slightly red faces, likely because of the atmosphere.
A platinum chain and a jade ring glinted around Hachikuma’s neck.
She wasn’t wearing that yesterday, so…
“Congratulations.”
The words slipped out.
“Thank you.”
Hachikuma blushed at my words, apparently hitting the mark. I felt a bit proud of my observation skills. Despite her large frame, she was a cute and beautiful woman, which made me somewhat envious.
“To get straight to the point, due to the extremely high numbers from the semen sample collected last time, it’s suspected to be an error. So, we need to collect another sample for verification.”
My supervisor, Usagita Kusuri, with a slightly red face, began explaining. Given the confidentiality, it wouldn’t have been appropriate for me to speak first, so I had brought my supervisor.
“I don’t mind, but considering the numerous vaccines I’ve just received, won’t that cause errors of a different kind?”
Hisui tilted his head, looking troubled.
“Uh, this, this, and this…”
I checked the database again, reviewed the vaccine and medication records, and cross-referenced them on my handheld device. Most things were okay except for certain dangerous chemotherapy drugs. But since medical errors can come from unexpected places, we double-checked.
“Okay, all clear.”
After finishing the final check, we both breathed a sigh of relief. I was glad it was only about the vaccines. If it had been something like a wild strain of mumps virus, it could have led to complications like orchitis and infertility, which would be a serious issue for us. Besides mumps, there are many dangerous wild strains, so the number of people saved by this vaccination was immense, possibly in the millions when considering the future.
The sheer potential impact wasn’t a joke, and we were dead serious.
Incidentally, the previous Kohaku-sama had hundreds of thousands of unrecognized descendants, which was no joke either.
“Isn’t his physical condition more of a concern given the number of shots?”
I confirmed, considering the information from the sensors showed no acute adverse reactions at the moment. It should be okay, but I suspected he’d experience swelling or fever from the reactions tonight. We couldn’t afford to weaken him now.
“I think he’ll be fine? As long as he avoids strenuous exercise.”
Hisui, being quite matter-of-fact, didn’t seem too concerned. His understanding was impressive but also worrisome.
“So, what kind of error are we talking about?”
Hachikuma asked sharply. As a top guard, her presence alone was intimidating.
“The initial sample we received had a fertilization rate of over 90% for in vitro fertilization, so we need to retest to ensure there’s no mistake.”
Before I could even think about how to explain, my supervisor answered.
“Over 90%…”
Hachikuma was speechless at the figure, unconsciously rubbing her belly.
“Depending on ovulation, direct fertilization also seems highly likely.”
“Indeed.”
She seemed to have an idea.
“Congratulations.”
I decided to congratulate her.
“It’s still a bit early.”
She smiled shyly, half denying it, but she couldn’t hide her happiness.
“Just a bit, right?”
A smile spread across my face, and a warm atmosphere filled the room. Pregnancy is usually a happy, celebratory event.
“Furthermore, at this point, Hisui-sama will be provisionally ranked S, which means there might be more guards assigned.”
“More guards?”
“Yes, it’s confirmed once the rank is assigned.”
“Someone said A rank was certain, but surpassing that…”
Her instinctive estimate was spot on, as expected of someone in the yokai category.
“It’s quite spectacular…”
This situation was beyond our expectations.
“Though the current exclusive period is wonderful, it can’t be helped.”
She sighed, sounding a bit regretful. To an outsider, it might seem like workaholism, but it was more like she considered being with Hisui equivalent to a date.
Though it’s only the second time we’ve met, I can understand the feeling.
Meanwhile, Hisui seemed a bit puzzled, perhaps not fully grasping the situation.
