- In a World Where Chastity is Reversed, I Ended Up Working as a Hot Spring Attendant
- Chapter 123 - The 12th Person in the Government Office Who Seems a Bit Desperate (From Tsubame’s Perspective)
“Hello.”
“Yes, hello.”
I raised my head in response to a familiar voice.
What?! Oh no!
I screamed internally.
The people gathered here were the same as last time. In other words, the key members of the main family were all present.
“What brings you here today?”
Subsidies, perhaps? No, but why are there so many of them?
“Here you go.”
Misago handed over a registration form.
1234…11 and…
“Isn’t this a bit fast?”
I said seriously.
“In this circle, we’re always prepared for the chance that things might go this way. Plus, it’s because this person is just too charming.”
Misago replied, with a somewhat bitter tone. Unintentionally, I glanced at the one responsible for this whole situation.
Smile.
Noticing my gaze, they flashed me a bright smile.
My heart pounded.
I swallowed, feeling my throat dry up.
A sharp pang hit deep in my stomach.
No, no, it’s way too soon for this. I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself down.
“By the way…?”
“Adding one more line doesn’t matter. Just go ahead and fill it in.”
I tried to joke, but they accepted before I could finish.
“Huh?! Is it really okay?!”
I couldn’t help but ask.
“Go ahead, no problem,” Hisui said with a wry smile, gesturing for me to continue.
“Rather than adding someone who doesn’t know us, it’s better to fill the spots with close family members.”
Guests and others can come later, but for now, just get it done.
Misago seemed resigned, almost desperate, as she urged me to proceed.
“Well, yeah, that makes sense…”
The members being registered this time are mostly bird-related, half-sisters who I’m somewhat familiar with. But some of the people at the back, I don’t know them very well.
If things are moving this quickly after Misago met this person just a few days ago, the whole ‘100 wives’ thing could fill up in no time.
“What about the nights?”
“For the first three days of the honeymoon period, we’ll try to follow the order of marriage registration. After that, we’ll rotate based on availability and work schedules, switching each night.”
It didn’t seem like she planned to assert any particular rights as the first wife. Maybe she’ll go with Grandpa Kohaku’s ‘wife plan’ or even the ‘night raid plan.’
Since Yata-Oba is third in line, it’ll probably follow that pattern.
“What about the allowance?”
“20,000 yen a month.”
Has inflation bumped it up a little?
“If word gets out, the whole country will come rushing.”
“That’s why we’re keeping it a secret for now.”
“It’s definitely going to leak…”
It’s absolutely going to leak, I thought, reflecting quietly to myself.
“Daytime is free time, in every sense of the word.”
I guess that means if anyone gets frustrated from waiting their turn at night, they’re allowed to make a move during the day.
“Our exclusive time will probably be short, but there’s nothing we can do about that, right?”
We all sighed, our shoulders slumping together.
“Next time, it’ll probably be with Toki-Granny, Aoba, and who knows who else.”
Judging by how things are going, the entire staff of the inn will likely join in as well.
“There sure are a lot of bird-related people.”
If their names are mentioned, it’s easy to recognize them as family, but we can barely keep track of everyone ourselves.
“By the way, I got a message from Hakuto-sis. She wants to take over some vacant houses in the area, so she’s asking the government office to secure some cheap properties under their management.”
She whispered, raising a finger to her lips as if to say, “Keep it secret.”
“The numbers just keep growing.”
“Well, she is a beauty, Hakuto-sis.”
Rather than just a beauty, she’s more like a good-looking man without the… you know. Her face and body structure align more with the beauty standard shared by Misago and Hachikuma-sis.
So, she’ll probably fit in, in many ways.
“Now then, I’ll call your names. Please hand over your ID cards in order.”
“Yes.”
Beep
No issues with forged or corrupted data. By the way, the marriage certificate links with the ID of the spouse, so scanning it will reveal the connection.
If it’s someone you know, they’ll probably just congratulate you. Also, surnames don’t change often. Handling the paperwork for ID cards and everything else is a huge hassle, and since we don’t all live together, it’s easier to leave things as they are.
“And now, for me.”
Beep
Surprisingly, I’m the 12th person. I don’t really feel it yet, but I can’t help but smile.
Afterward, we ended up taking a ton of pictures. This is nice.
~Postscript
There’s a family discount, more like a bird-name discount, for all the half-siblings.
A familiar discount for those who used to work here. So, it’s a little different.
This inn, despite everything, is a pretty good place. Even after Kohaku passed, it still fills up during the busy seasons. We get fairly busy during peak times, so family members often come to help out as part-timers.
Especially during summer break, Golden Week, spring break, and winter break, it’s a quick and easy part-time job for students.
Because of their connections as half-siblings, many of them were brought here as kids by their parents.
So, most of them have more memories of working here than visiting as guests.
Even after Kohaku and Hisui left, it was a great workplace, and many of us stayed on. That’s the kind of relationship we have.
That’s why Misago, Hachikuma, and Suzume grew up as milk-siblings, and they’re very close, though their situations are slightly different.
As for the ‘night raid plan’ or the ‘wife plan’:
It applies to those who are registered as official wives. They can stay overnight, even if the place is fully booked, and it goes without saying they’ll stay in the detached building where Hisui resides.
It’s a simple system, really, and the lodging fee is heavily discounted since they’re official wives.
That’s why the allowance is practically free. This situation comes from that too.
Even if Hisui casually waltzes into the guest rooms at another inn, going straight through the front desk, no one minds.
No one would charge him anyway.
Some say the ‘leftovers’ or whatever might serve as motivation. That’s actually encouraged.
It’s also the reason why so many affiliated inns are nearby.
For locals, with or without consent, it’s totally normal to drop by someone’s house at dinnertime unannounced.
As for security, of course, it’s a bit nerve-wracking, so ideally, Hisui would stay inside the inn most of the time. But since the freedom to go outside is what makes this place feel like a true home, Yata doesn’t want to physically restrain him. She prefers to bind him with love and affection.
