- In a Life I Restarted After a Bad Ending, I’m Somehow Being Hit With Extremely Heavy Feelings From a Classmate I’ve Just Met for the First Time
- Chapter 29 - Advantage Carried Over from a Previous Life
A week has passed since Golden Week ended. Today, the classroom felt heavier than usual in the morning. That was only natural, since today was the day test results would be announced.
Everyone here had passed the high school entrance exams, so the overall level of students was much higher than in middle school. Even if someone had good grades before, it wasn’t strange for them to fall to the middle or even below in high school tests, like the review test right after the entrance ceremony or the midterm exams in May. In fact, I was exactly like that in my first life.
“Test week starts today, what a pain.”
“Studying is a student’s main job. Still, I get why you’d say that.”
I replied to Amane, who was sitting in front of me. In my previous life, I had completely failed the main college entrance exam. I went into the next exams in a terrible mental state and ended up failing those, too. That memory still stayed with me, so I had no intention of slacking off in my studies.
“By the way, Amane, how did you do on the review test we took the day after the entrance ceremony?”
“Oh, I remember that doing pretty well.”
As she said that, Amane rummaged through her backpack and took out an A4 sheet of paper. It was the result sheet from that test.
She still had it in her bag? I thought that, but since she handed it to me, I looked at it without holding back. Then I couldn’t help but speak.
“…Huh!?”
Her rank on the test was 47th. Her score was way better than I expected. From how she usually acted, I thought she wasn’t very good at studying. When she said she did pretty well, I assumed she meant just a bit above average.
But this was clearly near the top of the grade. Anyone would be surprised. Amane gave me an annoyed look after seeing my reaction.
“What was that reaction supposed to mean?”
“I was just surprised your score was better than I expected.”
Trying to hide it would only make things worse, so I answered honestly. I couldn’t think of a better excuse anyway.
“At least middle school subjects are easy. Compared to high school, they’re much simpler. What about you, Eito?”
“I don’t have the paper with me, but I ranked 9th on that test.”
“Wow, that’s amazing!”
“No, no, not really. I thought I could do even better. I still need to improve.”
Even though I failed in the end, I had aimed for well-known universities with high scores, both public and private. I had studied seriously in my past life, and that experience was still with me.
Thinking about it now, the review test was actually quite easy. I even thought I might be able to get first place. But in reality, I ranked 9th. There were still eight people above me, so I couldn’t be satisfied with that result at all.
“If I have trouble studying for the midterms, I’ll ask you to teach me, Eito.”
“I don’t mind. Teaching others helps me study too.”
“In that case, maybe we can have a sleepover study session.”
“A sleepover is going too far…”
Amane said that so casually that I had to stop her right away. Then she looked at me with a straight face.
“Eh, why not?”
“Because we’re a guy and a girl…”
“That’s not really a problem.”
As usual, Amane said something bold, but her serious face made it seem like she actually meant it. This advantage from a past life also applies to Amane.
