(Alto’s POV)
Real World · Deepest Level of the Demon King’s Castle
『……Processing complete. Confirming total erasure of target data—what!?』
I felt like I heard the Demon King’s shocked voice from far away. That absolute, pure white light that signified “death” itself had been enveloping me. Cracks—black, jagged cracks—ran across its surface. Something exploded inside me.
Lilianna’s feelings. The warmth she had given me. And the signal of “release” announced by that incomprehensible mechanical voice. All of it mixed together and converged into my fist.
“U, ooooooooooooooh!!!”
CRASHHH!!
Space shattered like a mirror. I tore through the white light from the inside and leapt back into the real world. At my feet, fragments of the shattered light sparkled as they drifted through the air. From my body burst forth an aura I had never seen before—jet black intermingled with gold. At times, that light wavered into shapes resembling incomprehensible strings of characters.
“……Sorry about that!”
I clenched my right hand, confirming the sensation. The magic power that should have been depleted was now overflowing without end. No, this wasn’t even magic power anymore. It was something far more fundamental, an energy that felt like it rewrote the very program that made up this world.
“The delete format failed. …Looks like you and I are just fundamentally incompatible.”
I fixed my gaze on the Demon King. For the first time, I saw a hint of impatience on his expression—no, on that perfectly arranged, mask-like face.
『……Impossible. My authority commands are absolute. You should have been completely erased, data and all.』
The Demon King staggered backward. Behind him, the servers flashed red repeatedly, as if signaling imminent danger.
『You… What did you do? The code you are wearing is not this world’s descriptive language. …Don’t tell me this is external interference!?』
“Yeah? Code, language—I don’t give a damn.”
I took a single step forward. Just that alone caused the “gravity barrier” the Demon King had deployed to shatter like delicate glasswork.
“There’s only one thing I know. …Right now, I can knock you flat.”
『You lowly creature… Don’t get cocky!!』
The Demon King spread both arms wide and screamed.
『System authority, force execution! Fix the target’s coordinates! Halt the flow of time!』
Kiiiiiiin…!!
Color drained from the world.
“Time stop.”
All matter except for me froze in place, allowing him to leisurely torment and kill his opponent. This was his trump card, but…
“……Too slow.”
Within the time that should have been frozen, I calmly moved my legs.
『Wha—!? Time isn’t stopped!?』
“I told you. I don’t know the logic behind it, but…”
In the blink of an eye, I slipped into the Demon King’s guard and drove my fist into his abdomen.
“Your rules don’t work on me anymore!!”
DOGOOOOOOOOON!!!!
The instant my fist connected, golden electricity surged through the Demon King’s body. His body folded into a “<” shape and was blown away like a bullet. He smashed into the wall behind him, carving out a massive crater.
『Gah—ha…!?』
The Demon King dropped to his knees, coughing up silver oil from his mouth. The wounds on his body writhed and distorted like noise.
『Damn you…! But it’s useless! Rollback!!』
He shouted, trying to rewind the time of his injured body by a few seconds. But, the wounds did not close.
『W-why…!? Time isn’t rewinding…!?』
『—Jamming interference confirmed』
That emotionless voice echoed inside my head again, almost as if it were explaining my attack.
『The target’s “time manipulation” authority has been nullified. …The future confirmation process has been locked.』
I don’t really get it, but basically it means he can’t heal, right?
I grinned.
“Tough luck. You can’t just pretend this ‘never happened’ anymore.”
“ALTO!!”
At that moment, Gideon shouted as he crawled out from a pile of rubble. Despite being battered and beaten, he picked up Gungnir, which had been lying near my feet, and hurled it toward me.
“Catch it! Now’s your chance! Finish him!!”
“Yeah!!”
I caught Gungnir in midair. A heavy chunk of iron. But to me now, it felt as light as a feather. I aimed the barrel at the Demon King. I poured all of the absurd power overflowing from within my body into the gun.
Buuuuuun!!
Gungnir transformed. Responding to my power, its silver body dyed itself gold, and complex magic circles unfolded in multiple layers around the barrel. Science and magic… Along with an unknown power from the future. All of it became one.
『S-stop…! I am the administrator of this world! The god who rules this world!』
The Demon King’s face twisted in fear as he stumbled backward. There was no trace of his former dignity left. He was nothing more than a defeated loser, trembling in the face of death.
“Your Demon King act is over. …Pay for the crime of making Lilianna cry with your own body.”
I aligned the sights. His core, the system nucleus glowing red at the center of his chest.
“This is our answer!!”
I pulled the trigger.
ZUGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!!!
What was fired was no mere bullet. It was a massive torrent of light, an absolute beam of destruction that shaved away space itself and swept time off into the distance.
『A, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!?』
The Demon King’s scream was drowned out. Barriers, armor, administrator authority… Everything was blown away like scraps of paper. The light swallowed the Demon King, pierced straight through the main server behind him, and even bored through the bedrock far above. The attack even burst out into the sky.
Soon, the roaring stopped. The clouds of dust settled. There was nothing left. Neither the Demon King nor the server remained. Only a thin beam of sunlight streamed down through the massive hole torn open in the ceiling.
“……Is it over?”
I lowered Gungnir. Strength drained from my body. I felt the overflowing golden light fade away as well. We won. We really won.
“Heh…Serves you right.”
I looked up at the light from the ceiling and muttered softly.
Lilianna. I kept the promise.
My knees gave out beneath me and just like that, I fell into a deep, peaceful sleep.
