I replied.

Having her hand suddenly grabbed made Sophia’s face turn bright red. She leaned back, trying to escape, but I didn’t let go.

“Please, lend me an eraser.”

As I continued to stare intently into her eyes, she was the one to give in first.

“A-Alright! I get it! I’ll lend it to you!” 

“Are you sure?” 

“I’m sure! Just please, let go for now!”

Having secured her word, I finally released Sophia’s hand. Sophia took several deep breaths to settle her agitation; once she regained her composure, she busily produced an eraser and held it out to me.

“Just to be sure, do you have enough for yourself?” 

“I brought several spares with me.” 

“You’re well-prepared.” 

“Unlike you.”

Sophia spoke with a sharp tone. However, I didn’t mind it at all. I took the eraser and gave her a smile.

“Thank you. You saved me.”

Sophia’s eyes went wide, and she turned her face away, spitting out a quiet retort.

“…W-Whether you actually pass or not is a separate matter entirely.”

That was true enough. The girls in the seats behind us, who had been watching our exchange, began to whisper to one another.
