That was why I needed to produce results that anyone could clearly see. That plan worked out well. A few days later, while I was staying at the inn, a notice of my successful examination arrived. With that, my admission to the Knight Academy was officially approved. At the very least, I had finally stepped onto the starting line toward becoming a knight.

Some days later, carrying only a small amount of luggage, I visited the Knight Academy. Even though there was still time before the entrance ceremony, I crossed onto the academy grounds because I was scheduled to move into the dormitory starting today. The Knight Academy was a fully residential school, and all students lived in dorms.

North Dorm. Westania Dorm. East Dorm. South Dorm. The academy was divided into four dormitories, and students lived together regardless of year. Among them, I was assigned to the North Dorm. With my luggage in hand, I stepped over the threshold of the dormitory. At that moment, someone greeted me.

“Oh my, welcome. We’ve been expecting you~♪”

She was a woman wearing an apron, with a gentle, easygoing air about her. She looked to be in her late twenties. She was beautiful. Her drooping eyebrows framed her face, her hair was tied into braids, and there was a mole beneath her eye. Her ample chest pushed outward against the apron from within. “My name is Mariel. I am the dorm mother of North Dorm, and I am responsible for taking care of the students and managing the dormitory~”

“I’m Kreto. I’ll be in your care starting today.” 

I said, greeting her.

“Is something wrong?”

The dorm rooms were basically shared by two people. Even though I was the academy’s only male student, that didn’t change. Naturally, my roommate would be female. I just hoped she was a reasonable person…

Carrying my luggage, I climbed the stairs to the second floor where my room was located. When I reached the end of the hallway, I used the spare key the dorm mother had given me and opened the door.

I opened the door and stepped inside. It was a single-room setup. Two beds were placed at equal intervals, along with bookshelves, study desks, and a table for meals. Near the bed at the back, a woman was unpacking her belongings. As I approached, the silver-haired woman who had been facing away turned around.

“Eh!?”

Her eyes widened in shock when she saw me.

“Y-you’re…The one from back then…”

“It’s been a while.”

The silver-haired woman whom I had stepped in to help when she was being harassed by guards and who had lent me an eraser during the written exam. In the practical exam, she had defeated an examiner just like I had.

Sophia Holylight. If I remembered correctly, she was a noblewoman.

“W-why are you here…!?”

“Because I’ll be living in this room starting today.” 

I replied.

“Then that means… My roommate is…”

“That would be me.”

“…………(gape)”

Sophia was struck speechless, opening and closing her mouth like a carp waiting for food.

“What’s wrong? Are you that happy?”

“I-I’m not happy at all! Sharing a room with an immoral person like you is not making me happy at all! Just imagining it gives me chills!”

Sophia protested with her face bright red.

“Are you sure you won’t sneak up on me while I’m sleeping or something?”

“Like I’d ever do that!? Absolutely not!”

That was an excessive reaction. She really did seem innocent.

“Anyway, your name is Sophia, right? I’m glad you passed. When you lent me the eraser, you seemed pretty shaken. If you’d failed, I would’ve had a hard time sleeping afterward.”

After saying that, Sophia continued.

“There’s one thing I’d like to confirm with you.”

“…I heard that you defeated an examiner during the practical exam. Only two people managed to do so, including myself. Is that true?”

After saying that, Sophia went on.

“Kreto-san, then.”

Sophia placed a hand to her chest and introduced herself.

“Once again, I am Sophia Holylight. As your roommate, and as someone who will aim to become a knight together with you here at the Knight Academy, I look forward to working with you.”

She then smoothly extended her hand toward me.

“Yeah.”

I took Sophia’s outstretched hand.

“~!?”

“Hey, isn’t your face getting red?”

“I-it’s not!”

That was a lie. It was red, bright red even, all the way to her ears. I had wondered how things would turn out, but I was glad my roommate was someone I knew. If it was Sophia, she wouldn’t try sneaking into my bed at night.

At least in my own room, I wanted to be able to rest in peace.
