Chapter 8: Not Cute Enough for Love at First Sight
Mamejiro kept barking at me because I had mistakenly confessed to the Japanese doll.
But there was no point in dwelling on what had already happened.
Rather than that.
My mind was now filled with thoughts of Aoi-chan.
I wondered how I could have not noticed such a cute girl on campus until now.
Maybe I had bad eyesight.
No, that wasn’t it.
My vision was 2.0 without correction.
I wonder if I’ll see her tomorrow…
I was in the staff room of Training Studio Hiruma, tossing and turning in my bed, hugging a pillow.
This is bad…
Why did I suddenly fall so hard for her?
I had never felt this way about a girl before.
I wanted to see her again.
It’s okay if we can’t talk.
In fact, I was unsure if I’d even be able to speak to her.
Just being able to look at her from a distance is enough.
If only I had a photo of her…
As I thought about this, a realization hit me.
The paper bag with 1 million yen from Hannya.
It had her photo inside.
I jumped out of bed and started rummaging through the paper bag.
There was still about 600,000 yen left inside.
Inside, I found a thin tea-colored envelope.
I hastily pulled out the contents of the envelope.
“There she is! My angel!”
Inside was a photo of Aoi-chan, smiling at me.
Why hadn’t I looked at the contents of this envelope sooner?
The more I looked at her, the cuter she seemed.

“I’m going to join the same club as Sakurazawa Aoi-chan,”
I declared to Mamejiro the next day.
Aoi-chan and I were in different departments, so we had no interaction.
I wanted to see her, but there was no opportunity.
How could I make it happen?
The solution was simple: join the same club activity as her.
That’s what I thought.
“Are you serious? What are you going to say to the girl you mistakenly confessed to, then?
She’s also in the same club as Sakurazawa-san.
Won’t it just make things more complicated if you join too?”
“Ahh… I’ll just say to that girl, ‘I’m sorry, I made a mistake.'”
“How do you even mistake someone when confessing?”
“Well… I could say that my eyesight is bad…”
I wracked my brains for a nonexistent idea and told Mamejiro.
Mamejiro sighed deeply.
“Koichi, you’re not good at lying, so it’s better not to lie at all.
If Sakurazawa Aoi thinks you’re a liar, she won’t fall for you, you know?”
“That would be a problem!”
I panicked.
“Please, Mamejiro, help me out here.
I really like Sakurazawa Aoi-chan.”
“That’s strange. Sakurazawa-san is plain and not cute enough for love at first sight.”
Mamejiro tilted his head in confusion.
I grabbed Mamejiro by the neck.
“Don’t say such rude things.”
“Ghk!”
Mamejiro coughed and rolled his eyes.
“Ah! Sorry, Mamejiro, are you okay?”
I patted his shoulders vigorously.
Mamejiro coughed for a while before catching his breath.
“For some reason, my peaceful daily life seems to be slipping away since I started hanging out with you, Koichi…”
Mamejiro muttered under his breath.
