Chapter 51: Suicide Behaviour
Aoi, wearing the fox mask, shook her head vigorously from side to side, signaling to me.
“No! Stop!”
Our eyes met through the small holes in the mask.
“Aoi! I’ve had a lot of fun with you.
I actually liked it when you choked and punched me.”
The fox masked-woman blew out angry breaths, “Hoo! Hoo!” as it shook its head even more vigorously.
“I’m glad we met. It was truly the happiest time of my life.”
Just behind me, the portal yawned wide, waiting to swallow us up.
The fake Aoi, still restrained by me, screamed.
“Stop it, Koichi! Damn it!
Jumping into a portal that opened without a plan will make it almost impossible to find the exit.”
“I’d rather take you down with me than see Aoi get hurt.”
One more step.
Just one more step, and both the fake Aoi and I would fall into the portal.
“Aoi. Thank you for everything. It’s thanks to the Hannya masked guy that we met.
I wanted to thank him…”
I felt a strong energy behind me.
I glanced down at my feet while still holding the fake Aoi tightly.
I could see the pitch-black darkness of the wide-open portal.
It was blacker and deeper than anything on Earth, seemingly bottomless.
It was incredibly terrifying, yet strangely alluring.
The pitch-black abyss beckoned.
It made me want to stumble closer.
Just a few centimeters away from falling into the portal, Aoi screamed.
“No! Koichi, stop!!!”
Aoi ripped off her fox mask as if tearing it off.
“Fake Aoi!! Look at me!!”
“Aoi!! What have you done?!”
Yuuka exclaimed.
“No!! Don’t look!! Don’t look at it!”
I hurriedly covered the fake Aoi’s eyes with my hands.
But it was too late.
Tension ran through the fake Aoi’s body.
She had “seen” her own doppelganger.
“…… You just dug your own grave! You might die yourself!
You stupid, foolish idiot!!!”
The fake Aoi yelled, spitting at Aoi.
“That’s not certain! I might be the one who survives.”
“Aoi!! Why did you do something so stupid…?”
“Because… I didn’t know what else to do.
If things continued as they were, Koichi would fall into the portal.
I thought this was the only way to defeat the fake Aoi and save you.”
Aoi sobbed uncontrollably.
Even when she was attacked and almost killed by those men, Aoi didn’t shed a single tear.
She always put on a brave face, pretending she wasn’t scared.
Yet here she was, crying her heart out.
“Aoi…”
I rushed to her side and held her tightly.
“Damn it! Damn it! Damn it!”
The fake Aoi cursed repeatedly.
“If I survive, Koichi, I won’t let you go at that time.
I won’t let you get away with something like this again.”
The fake Aoi pointed at me and ran out of the dojo.
“Ah… What should we do? Aoi, you might… disappear,”
Yuuka muttered, her face pale with shock.
“No! Isn’t there anything we can do?!”
“There’s nothing we can do. There’s no way to prevent it.”
“Aoi, please! Don’t disappear.”
I hugged AoI tightly, hoping she wouldn’t go anywhere.
