Chapter 46: The Circumstances of the Two of Us
“Ugh…”
I seemed to have been asleep.
I threw off the light and warm blanket and sat up.
I looked around and found myself in a spacious Japanese-style room.
The scent of tatami mats filled the air.
There were pristine white sliding doors and a high ceiling.
A pendant light with intricate decorations hung from the ceiling.
“Where am I…? Aoi… Aoi?!”
I found my phone on the bedside table.
I tapped on my phone and was surprised by the date that appeared.
How many hours had I been asleep?
At that moment, the sliding door opened silently.
“You’re awake. This is my house.”
“Aoi… I’m glad. I overslept.
It’s not good to sleep this much.
We need to find Yuuka, and yet here I am sleeping.
I’m really sorry for lacking tension.”
I scratched my head.
Aoi remained silent and shook her head.
“I’ll bring you something to eat. You should also take a bath later.”
“Ahh!”
I couldn’t help but voice out the pain that ran through my body.
“What’s wrong?!”
Aoi rushed to my bedside.
“My muscles are aching terribly. It feels like I did an intense workout.”
“It’s probably because you threw around a lot of heavy things.”
Aoi gently rubbed my arm.
“Don’t push yourself. You can keep resting if you need to.”
“No, I can’t do that. I need to greet your parents properly.”
“Don’t worry about my parents. They’re indifferent towards me, so it’s fine.”
Aoi gave a slight sad smile.
“Indifferent?”
“Yes. They don’t care about the fact that I’m carrying the fate of protecting Yamaguchi-senpai.
They don’t want to get involved in the dark divergence or the portals.
They think it’s better to stay uninvolved.”
“Eh? Why?”
“I have an older sister and brother.
My parents have high expectations for them and want to protect them.
Plus, they’re busy running their company.
They think it would be troublesome if something happened to them or their other children because of their involvement with me.”
“That’s… terrible.”
“If you get any more involved with me, Koichi, you’ll be in big trouble.
Or should I say, you’re already deeply involved.”
I held Aoi’s hand.
“I like you, Aoi. There’s nothing more important to me than you.
So, I’ll continue to be involved.”
“Koichi…”
“But I’m weak in fights, not very smart, and pretty useless.
Still, I don’t plan on leaving your side.”

Aoi brought me some porridge.
“Ah, I’m starving.”
“Eat the porridge, and then take this medicine. It’s Chinese herbal medicine prepared by Matsui.”
“Matsui-san can even make medicine?”
I scooped up the porridge and ate slowly.
My body craved meat, but my stomach welcomed the porridge.
“Oh no! I have a part-time job today!”
“Take it easy. Your body is in no condition to work.”
“I’m fine, really…”
I tried to stand up, but my legs didn’t have enough strength.
“…… Later, I’ll contact my part-time job and tell them I can’t make it.”
I finished the porridge.
“What about your mother? Doesn’t she provide any support for your tuition or living expenses?”
Aoi looked straight into my eyes.
Her eyes were beautiful.
“My mother and I aren’t blood-related.
She dotes on my younger brother, who is her biological child.
I don’t think she worries about me that much.”
“Is that so?”
“Yes. I love my little brother, too.
As long as someone takes good care of him, I’m fine with it.”
“You and I are similar, Koichi. We’re both lonely.”
“We’re not lonely. I have you, and you have me.
Wow, did I just say something really cool?”
I grinned, and Aoi gently pinched my cheek.
