Chapter 10: A Lower Life Form and a Weakling
Aoi-chan, Yamaguchi Yuuka, Mamejiro, and I decided to have dinner together after our club activity.
I chose a Western-style restaurant that I thought girls would like.
Mamejiro and I sat next to each other, with Aoi-chan and Yuuka-san sitting across from us.
“I’m so hungry! Everything looks delicious. Yamaguchi-senpai, what are you going to eat?”
Aoi-chan asked in her cute voice.
Wow, she’s so adorable!
I couldn’t help but hold my breath in awe.
“I’ll get the salad for everyone.”
Aoi-chan offered, serving salad to each of us.
“… …”
“Mmm, this meat is so tender and delicious.
Kashitani-kun, do you want a bite?”
“… N, no… I’m… fine.”
What was wrong with me?
I was almost silent before, during, and after the meal.
I was so nervous because I had Aoi-chan right in front of me.
I had never felt so nervous around a girl before.
Anyway, Aoi-chan was just too cute.
She even reacted adorably to Mamejiro’s unfunny jokes, laughing and saying,
“Ahaha, Mamejiro-san, you’re so funny!”
Because I was so quiet, Mamejiro was desperately trying to say something, but I barely heard him.
I was so nervous that I couldn’t even look at Aoi-chan.
At this rate, how could I ever hope to date Aoi-chan?
Midway through the meal, Yamaguchi-san suddenly excused herself.
“I’ll be right back.”
She got up from her seat and headed towards the bathroom.
Mamejiro quickly followed, but not before winking at me.
He was probably giving us some alone time.
But I wished he had stayed, as I felt more comfortable with him there.
“……”
I gathered my courage and finally looked in Aoi-chan’s direction.
Aoi-chan, who had been staring at Yamaguchi-san as she headed to the toilet, shifted her gaze to me.
Our gazes locked.
“……”
I felt my heart skip a beat.
Aoi-chan blinked her big eyes and tilted her head, looking at me.
Why was she so cute?
Just as I thought that, Aoi-chan’s expression suddenly changed, and her voice dropped an octave, becoming husky and intense.
“… You’re a worm.”
Aoi-chan clasped her hands in front of her face and glared at me while looking up.
“Wa, worm?”
I froze at the drastic change in Aoi-chan.
“You’re trying to seduce Yamaguchi-senpai. I can tell.
She already has a destined fiancé whom she should marry.
The fact that she’s being friendly with you is just her showing mercy.
You lower life form.”
I had no idea what she was talking about, but I could tell she was scolding me.
“Aoi-chan… I don’t understand what you’re saying, but… I’m sorry,”
I apologized, not knowing what else to do.
“Don’t call me by my name so casually, you weakling.”
Aoi-chan glared at me and stabbed a meat knife into the table.
The knife was thrust into the space between my index and middle fingers.
“I’m sorry.”
I apologized, but I also noticed a strange thrill run through my body.
Maybe I was a masochist after all.
I was enjoying being scolded by Aoi-chan.
What was Aoi-chan so mad about?
I didn’t understand at all, but I found myself hoping that she would scold me some more.
That’s what I was starting to think.
“Sorry for the wait. What were you guys talking about?”
Yamaguchi-san returned to her seat.
“I was asking Kashitani-kun about his goals in the Shorinji Kempo club.”
“Oh, I want to hear about that too!”
Aoi-chan had suddenly switched back to her usual cute self.
I realized that I actually preferred the scary Aoi-chan over the cute one.
That was the conclusion I came to.
