Chapter 10: Huh? Why Does That Happen?
“…I hate it, being an idol means you sell dreams, right? And then to suddenly go on the offensive after retirement…”
“It’s not like I’m going after anyone; I’ve been interested in YELL since I was an idol.”
“Isn’t that taboo for idols?”
“They can’t control what I think in my heart.”
“You’re only halfway there.”
“Then, how mature are you? From what I’ve heard, you’re just using your position as an arranged fiancée between our fathers, not even considering Momiji-kun’s feelings, right?”
Even after we returned home, the argument continued.
At this point, they might actually be getting along well, but for these two, it’s hard to imagine that happening.
Then, their gazes turned to me.
“It might be faster to ask the person himself.”
“Right, I agree.”
“Which one of us do you like?” they both asked.
No way, no matter how I answer, this is hell…
Elna-san is kind, she loves me to death, and even her jealous side is cute… She’s got specs that are too good for me.
Serizawa-san is the idol I’ve always liked, and if we’re talking about feelings, mine for her are greater.
But, I only know the idol [Seina Serizawa], and for her, I’m just an [old fan].
We hardly know each other.
No, both are the same… No matter how much I ponder, there’s no answer, and at least not right now, it’s absolutely impossible.
“Sorry. I haven’t known Elna-san for long, but I can tell she really loves me, and that makes me really happy. As for Serizawa-san… you still feel like someone behind a screen, not real, and we don’t know each other yet. So, even if I give an answer right now, it wouldn’t be good for either of us… I know it’s the worst, but… I need time… please.”
After I awkwardly said that, both of them looked shocked and then apologized, “I’m sorry too,” “Sorry.”
“No… it’s my fault. For not being able to decide right away…”
Then, Elna-san hugged me.
“That’s not true. I’m sorry, it was my fault. I said something thoughtless. I know you’ll choose me in the end.”
Seeing that, Serizawa-san also hugged me.
“I’m sorry too. I didn’t expect you to have a fiancée, I felt betrayed, and I was cold.”
“You’re at fault there. And don’t hug me.”
“I didn’t say that to you, and I’m not hugging you. If you don’t like it, let go?”
They glared at each other again.
Then, Elna-san smirked, “But too bad. Even if by some miracle, no, even if by one in a billion chance you choose her, you won’t be able to take any of Momiji-kun’s firsts.”
“Huh? What do you mean?”
Oh no, that’s definitely something you shouldn’t say!
I tried to stop her, but Elna-san covered my mouth with her hand.
“I’ve already taken his first kiss, and tomorrow we’ll take our first step as lovers by becoming adults.”
“…What’s that? How can that be?”
“We decided. Tomorrow, we’re going to have sex.”
Elna-san stood up, arms crossed, looking down with a triumphant face as she said that.
“…What’s that? That’s not something you plan, right? It’s probably just something you decided on your own,” Serizawa-san said, looking up from where she sat on the floor, glaring.
“Hmph, say whatever you want.”
“…I’ve decided. I’m going to live in this house from today.”
“…Huh?”
“Because, we don’t know each other yet, right? We need to make time to get to know each other. If you want to split things evenly, that’s the best way. Right?”
And so, despite everything, I ended up living with Serizawa-san too, and our cohabitation life as three began.

Chapter 11: Seina Serizawa Quit Being an Idol
Since I was little, I was a girl who didn’t smile much.
“I can’t tell what she’s thinking.”
My classmates and even my parents said that.
Because of that, I couldn’t fit in with others, and I ended up not going to school.
Even as I became more and more withdrawn, there was one thing I loved.
That was being an idol.
I was intensely drawn to the way they sang and danced with smiles on their faces.
I, too, had some confidence in my looks.
My motor skills were decent, and I was pretty good at singing.
However, I lacked the essential smile of an idol.
Whether it was genuine or fake, what makes an idol an idol is that bright smile.
But no matter how much I practiced, I couldn’t smile well.
At least, I couldn’t fake a smile, and when I danced, I was too focused on the moves, and the same when I sang.
I secretly went to various idol auditions without going to school, but I never got accepted.
Then, social media caught my eye.
Here, I could be an idol without anyone’s permission.
Of course, I wouldn’t get paid, and to professional idols, it might have seemed like a hobby.
Even so, I started my idol activities as my only means of survival.
At first, it was tough.
The camera was just my smartphone, the audio was hard to capture well, and I had no idea about editing.
The videos I uploaded, even with all my amateur effort, hardly got views, and when they did, the comments were harsh – ‘The quality is too bad,’ ‘The editing is terrible,’ ‘She’s cute, but she won’t become popular,’ ‘Why doesn’t she smile? It’s scary,’ and so on.
But one user commented on my video, ‘First time seeing this! You’re so cute! Keep going despite the negative comments!’
That user’s name was ‘YELL.’
From then on, I worked part-time, bought a proper camera and microphone, got a computer, and learned editing from scratch, even figured out how to write lyrics and compose music.
Gradually, with some guidance from viewers on how to do things better, my content improved, and my popularity slowly grew.
Since I was attending a correspondence school, I didn’t become a topic at school.
However, as my popularity grew, I couldn’t favor only YELL-san, and I couldn’t reply to all comments, but he always continued to support me.
After that, appearing in a video of a somewhat famous influencer led to various media appearances, and occasionally, I even got on TV.
Still expressionless as an idol, but rather, that unchanging face appealed to more people, and I rose to the position of one of Japan’s top three idols thanks to my unique appeal.
I thought there were countless futures ahead.
For example, becoming an actress, a multi-talented entertainer, or even starting my own cosmetics brand as an influencer, there were many options.
But what I longed for was solely to be an idol, and I didn’t want to see myself as anything but an idol.
Moreover, there was one thing I hadn’t done yet, which was significant.
That was… to live my youth.
I wanted to attend a regular high school, live an ordinary youth, and proceed to higher education.
Not as the withdrawn girl from back then, but as Seina Serizawa, the former idol, I wanted to take a new step forward.
So, I retired as an idol.
I decided to attend a regular high school.
Transferring in my third year of high school, coming from a correspondence school, and being a former idol, not many schools were willing to accept me considering the potential impact.
At that time, I got a proposal from an acquaintance who was the principal of a school.
And so, I transferred to that school and met my fated person.
◇
When I woke up, my beloved was there, sleeping with a cute face.
I felt like kissing him, but my eyes went to the slender arm wrapped around his waist.
…That arm belonged to my rival, Elna Isaac.
This person was my only miscalculation.
If the timing had been slightly different, he would surely have been mine… yet.
But that’s fine.
I’ll make him mine from now on.
Thinking that, I closed my eyes and secretly kissed his cheek.
