Chapter 29: Black and White Cosplay
The recent events at the beach gave me more than enough courage to move forward.
While my current situation of working a dream part-time job and being pampered by the three of them hasn’t changed at all, I’m starting with small, steady steps.
I’m looking for ways in my own way to repay everyone’s kindness.
Balancing my time and the time I spend for everyone, I plan to improve the quality of both and move forward steadily.
However, time is limited, and I want to level up as quickly as possible. The finish line, my goal, is still far ahead, but I plan to keep moving forward without sparing any effort.
With such determination in my heart, I stepped into the cosplay event venue.
Let’s ignore the obvious retort of “aren’t there more important things to do?” for now. My promise to Tsu-chan is my top priority.
I have no impure thoughts like wanting to see Tsu-chan in a sexy cat-ear outfit… No, not wanting to see someone you like in cosplay seems rude in itself. Yes.
Honestly, I do want to see it. Yes.
(That reminds me… Kokoa is coming too, right?)
I haven’t seen Kokoa since the start of summer vacation, so I’m a bit worried that she might go overboard with excessive skinship. Plus, Kokoa is the type to completely ignore time, place, and occasion (TPO), so I’m nervous she might have prepared an outlandish costume for this cosplay event, where people tend to get carried away.
(…Oh, there they are.)
It seems Tsu-chan and Kokoa were waiting for me near the entrance of the venue.
“Hey, Kyosaka-chan!”
“Yo, Okeihan!”
“Sorry to keep you waiting.”
“Not at all, we just got here. Right, Tsukasa?”
“That’s right. Shall we go?”
“Yeah.”
I feel like people around us are staring at me curiously as I walk, sandwiched between Tsu-chan and Kokoa.
Even though Kokoa and Tsu-chan are simply dressed in T-shirts and jeans, this combination stands out. The contrast between fair skin and tanned skin, and the presence of long, straight blonde and black hair, makes these double gals naturally overwhelming to everyone else.
“Kyosaka-chan♡, can I nuzzle you?♡”
“Stop it, Kokoa. Don’t cling to Okeihan too much.”
“Tsu-chan, you too. Don’t hug me, it’s hard to walk…”
“You’re walking with flowers in both hands, so it’s fine. Besides, Kokoa, you lost the bet, so technically you shouldn’t be able to hang out with Okeihan during summer vacation.”
“Huh? Tsukasa, you’re so rigid sometimes. I’m in love with Kyosaka-chan♡, so it’s only natural I want to be close when we’re together.”
“…Both of you, we’re drawing attention, so lower your voices a bit…”
Rather than being embarrassed, I feel the stares are almost painful.
I sense a mix of murderous glares from people thinking, “That guy’s hogging two beauties.”
“Wow, this venue is huge♡. All the guys here will be glued to my cosplay♡.”
The inside of the building is spacious.
“Okeihan, this is Kokoa’s true nature. She claims she’s only into you, but it’s obvious she plans to flirt with other guys too, right?”
“Are you serious? I deleted all the contacts of guys other than Kyosaka-chan. I even blocked the persistent ones.”
“Come on, both of you.”
“Do you think that little effort will make Okeihan notice you? Ever heard of a repeat offender?”
“It’s up to Kyosaka-chan to judge that. It’s none of your business, Tsukasa. I’d let Kyosaka-chan do anything to me♡. Hey, Kyosaka-chan, ignore my rights and treat me like a pet♡. Put a collar on me, make me crawl on all fours, and say ‘woof’♡.”
“Talking to an idiot is impossible.”
“…Haha.”
I smiled wryly, letting their conversation wash over me.
Inside, there were already many people dressed in cosplay outfits. Some were cosplaying famous characters from anime and mobile games, and as someone not used to these events, I couldn’t help but stare in awe.
According to Tsu-chan, these events are held irregularly and require tickets, and we were lucky to get them this time.
There were still about thirty minutes until the opening time when the general public would be allowed in. We headed to the changing rooms to put on the costumes we had prepared.
Since I am a cosplay beginner, Tsu-chan chose my outfit for me.
It was a gentleman’s attire featuring a black coat with a design that had a bit of a dark fantasy feel to it. After quickly changing, I left the changing room and headed to our meeting spot.
Tsu-chan and Kokoa mentioned they needed more time for makeup and other preparations.
While waiting at one of the four sections of the venue, a group of four girls approached me.
“Is that a cosplay of Shell?”
“He looks like a dark butler. How cute.”
“Can we take a picture? You have such an anime-like face.”
“Oh, um… thank you…”
W-What is this?
I couldn’t hide my confusion from the sudden attention. I vaguely understood that my outfit was a cosplay of a character named Shell, but I hadn’t styled my hair or done any makeup to resemble a character…
“I want a picture with you too!”
“Not fair, me too!”
“Uh, um, well…”
As I fumbled, not knowing how to handle the sudden situation, an experienced-looking woman pulled my arm.
“Come on, let’s take a picture together! Oh, here’s my card.”
Seeing the information on the business card, I was taken aback.
A production company? The name of the agency was written on it.
Is she a model or something…? Sensing my unease, the woman subtly put away her card.
“Well, I’m here with friends today, so this isn’t a work-related cosplay. Do you know who I am?”
“Sorry… I don’t really know your name…”
“Remi, you got rejected.”
“That’s funny.”
“So, are you not really into cosplay?”
I wanted to say yes immediately, but it felt wrong to say that while dressed like this. As I hesitated, two figures stepped in front of me.
It was Tsu-chan and Kokoa.
Both were dressed in revealing outfits, with Tsu-chan wearing cat ears and Kokoa wearing dog ears. They even had tails, and their transformations were so cute that it was hard to put into words. The quality was enough to stir any man’s heart.
(What a provocative outfit…)
“Excuse me, this guy is with us.”
“That was close, Kyosaka-chan. Let’s go to the other booth. Come on, hurry up!”
Tsu-chan stood between me and Remi, guarding me, while Kokoa pulled me by the hand.
“Weren’t those girls super cute?”
“Remi, come on. You don’t stand a chance.”
“Quiet… his reaction was cute, though…”
Remi and the others whispered among themselves, but I decided to ignore them. I didn’t want to upset Tsu-chan and Kokoa any further.
Still, I didn’t know where to look. Tsu-chan and Kokoa’s outfits were cosplays of cat and dog characters from an anime called “Dark Butler,” and apparently, the character Shell, who I was cosplaying, was their master.
For context, it seems Shell’s height and face are similar to mine.
I see. As I finally grasped the situation, I noticed Tsu-chan and Kokoa giving me disapproving looks.
“Master, were you drooling over those girls just nyow?”
“Master, you have no self-control, woof♡”
“…What’s with those endings, you two?”
“Okeihan, if you act all lovey-dovey with other girls again, I won’t forgive you, neow.”
“It’s rare for me to agree with Tsukasa, woof.”
Did they think I was being lovey-dovey with those four girls? That’s jumping to conclusions. I was just confused.
Before I could explain, Tsu-chan and Kokoa grabbed my hands and started pulling me through the booths.
Sigh.
So, are they going to keep talking like that all day?
