Vol 1 Chapter 16: The Reason for the Kamikaze Attack (Vol 1: The Delinquent High School Girl’s Servant Survived and Advanced to the Second Year)
“By the way, that kid Miyayuri had riding behind on the bike earlier—do you know her?”
“Yeah. She’s Rurei Hia-ari—my relative who’s a year younger… well, she’s like a little sister.”
So she looked like Miyayuri because she’s family… a pretty common twist.
“I thought I’d seen her somewhere before, and then I heard that Rurei-chan enrolled at Rikkokugawa High School.”
“Katsuko, do you know her?”
When I asked Katsuko, she bobbed her two braids and gave a small nod in affirmation.
“Yeah. Although I only met her once about two years ago, I thought she looked just like Miyayuri-chan—and she’s really cute.”
“So, why did Miyayuri-san and that Rurei-san go kamikaze on the gym?”
Megumi asked Miyayuri with obvious interest.
“I wasn’t on a suicide mission! Rurei was about to be late right after enrolling, so they told me to put her on the bike!”
Perhaps irritated as she recalled the incident, Miyayuri continued excitedly.
“So, I even went out of my way to pick her up and gave her a ride, but then she had the nerve to say, ‘Your driving’s way too reckless—switch with me!’ Acting all selfish… I had no choice but to let her drive, and then that damn bitch started spouting that she didn’t even have a license after wrecking the bike.”
I, too, have experienced a near-death ride on Miyayuri’s unlicensed bike, so she really has no right to act all high and mighty about it!
“Then, without even knowing how to brake, she ended up in a forced chicken race, arriving at the school, crashing into the gym, and continuing her rampage until even the bandits got completely wrecked…”
Even if she’s unlicensed, like Miyayuri just shouted, she’s probably never even ridden a bicycle—so why on earth does she even want to ride a bike…?
“…I mean, are you two okay? You’re not hurt, are you?”
Megumi looked over Miyayuri’s body with concern as she asked.
Her uniform was filthy everywhere, and she had scrapes on her knees and legs, but it didn’t look like she’d suffered any serious injuries—no fractures or bad bruises.
“Yeah, I really thought I was a goner, but just before I hit the wall, I managed to back-drop Rurei and toss her backwards, and I used that momentum to crash onto the ground—somehow, I pulled through. If the schoolyard had been concrete, I’d have been a goner for sure.”
“Dude, are you some kind of veteran stuntman?!”
When you saved me from that suicidal plunge by jumping off the roof together, I figured you were more cut out to be a stuntman than a kickboxer!
“And then Misuzu-chan came running over… while I was holding them off, Rurei made her escape. You did face Misuzu-chan, but you were totally outclassed—you got tossed around about three times, nearly lost consciousness, and then took a standing joint lock until you were completely done for.”
“No, it’s no good to confront someone head-on!”
I’ve never heard of a delinquent—even a guy—who’d go at it with a martial arts teacher right after an accident.
Listening to this story makes my whole body ache.

I was exasperated by the whole kamikaze stunt, but at least I finally figured out the relationship between Miyayuri and Rurei.
Then, instead of having me persuade Rurei to stop attacking delinquents, it might be better to let Miyayuri do the talking.
“By the way, did you know that that Rurei girl is out there going around like she’s on a delinquent-hunting spree?”
“What the heck is that about? I heard there was a manga with that theme back in the day, but is Rurei really doing something like that?”
I wondered if Miyayuri didn’t know what Rurei was up to—or if she did and was just lying.
“And not only that, it seems Rurei-san is calling herself ‘Rei’.”
“Oh, come on… seriously?!”
When Miyayuri let out a surprised cry, Katsuko interjected from beside her.
“The Rurei-chan I know, even if she’s a bit of a wild child, isn’t the type to pick fights. And why in the world do you know about that?”
I thought that, given how she went kamikaze on the gym, it wasn’t just a bit of harmless mischief. Perhaps because Rurei looks so much like Miyayuri, Katsuko is inclined to favor her.
“I heard it from Senpai Ryoma. To make matters worse, it seems even a former member of the Bloody Red Road got taken out.”
“That sounds like it might get messy…”
Relatively level-headed, Megumi rested her hand lightly on her chin as she considered it.
“No, no, that can’t be it. Is there any proof that Rurei was behind it?”
“That is…”
Should I even mention that I, too, got caught up in Rurei’s pseudo-delinquent hunting and ended up getting beaten by her?
While I was mulling that over, a series of roaring engine sounds approached, echoing across the schoolyard.
It was the second time today that a motorcycle had been racing around the schoolyard—and I recalled that even Beelzebub attacked once before. Seriously, what kind of school lets motorcycles invade the yard like that…?
“Oh! Cruising around in broad daylight, huh? Looks like a perfect way to kill some time!”
Even after the accident, after being thoroughly clobbered by Misuzu-sensei, cleaning up the mess in the gym, and enduring a lecture, Miyayuri’s eyes still sparkled with life.
She’s one tough cookie.
“Miyayuri-chan, you know you’re not allowed to get into fights in the schoolyard, right? Next time you might just get expelled!”
If you go around fighting biker gangs in front of students and teachers, even Misuzu-sensei won’t be able to cover for you this time.
“I know all that. Basically, you just need to change your hangout spot, right?”
For Miyayuri, taking down biker gangs is nothing more than a bit of fun. Without waiting any longer, she strode off.
◇
In the very center of the schoolyard, more than ten motorcycles were gathered. When the person at the center noticed us, he got off his bike.
“You—Rei and Rurei! How dare you beat up my underlings!”
A man with a flashy scar across his mouth and brown hair slicked back in a pompadour glared at Miyayuri; the moment he saw her face, he started picking a fight.
“Huh? I don’t know who you guys are… or, who the hell are you?”
“Ah! I am Asakuna Mashiki, the top dog of Shushi High School!”
Aren’t these guys a biker gang? And you’re the boss of Shushi High School? I distinctly recall that Ashifuri Hotori—who used to train at the same gym as me—claimed to be the boss of Shushi High School.
“Shushi High School, huh? Oh, you mean that bottom-tier school with an average score of 25 and a graduation rate below 50%. And as for that loser Ashifuri—our very own Kosutake already put him in his place ages ago. Are you trying to act like the boss now?”
“Ha! Your information’s old! Ashifuri was taken down by me, and now I, Asakuna Mashiki, am the top dog at Shushi High School!”
Hmph.
Ashifuri, who got soundly thumped by me in sparring and was knocked out in about 30 seconds in a fight, probably doesn’t have what it takes to hold onto the boss title anyway. Hearing about this coup at Shushi High School didn’t stir any particular emotion in me; I just figured it was bound to happen.
“I don’t give a damn about Ashifuri! Besides, the guys you attacked four days ago are my underlings! That’s why I came to pay my respects!”
“We’d love to welcome you for coming all this way, but that wasn’t our doing, you know?”
“Don’t play dumb! A boxer, a kickboxer, and three female martial artists—and even our senior underling—said you guys got beaten by some short, kickboxer-ish guy! No matter how you look at it, it was clearly your handiwork!”
Ah… the first three might be a misunderstanding, but the last one… is that about me?
This is getting messy…
“I don’t know. Maybe you guys were snorting some anpan and started hallucinating?”
Of course, Miyayuri had no recollection of any such thing, but talking with Asakuna Mashiki—who seems to be convinced that Rurei is actually Miyayuri—was proving impossible.
Should I keep quiet about Rurei?
As I hesitated, Miyayuri spoke up.
“If you don’t like what you’re hearing, then there’s a place nearby called Rokumori. No one ever gets in the way there, so just wait there.”
“Alright then. Don’t say I didn’t warn you—here we come!”
Are they starting to worry about getting reported?
Asakuna Mashiki straddled his bike, led his crew, and with a roaring engine and a nose-wrinkling blast of gasoline, rode off from the schoolyard.
